I can't remember the specific book but it happened a lot, when author mentions characters race in the middle of the book. Maybe because I live in a very homogeneous Slavic country, so if author doesn't specify the appearance I just imagine characters white and then I feel bad about imagining character with wrong race😅

I’ve let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. We drove from NH to GA (about 1200 miles) overnight to look at a house and by the time we got there I had SUCH a migraine. It wasn’t until months later when we were driving back to move in that I realized I have a habit of holding my breath a lot while driving. Not enough to get dizzy or anything, I just don’t breathe enough. And only when I’m in heavy traffic or something making me anxious. So that’s why I was getting migraines on long trips. So now I have to remind myself to let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding many times while driving lol.

You have to pay attention to notice it, but it's done very realistic. :)

I used to read a lot of Clive Cussler back in the day and was particularly into Dirk Pitt. When I realized one of his books had been made into a movie (Sahara) I was VERY hyped. Then Dirk was played by Matthew McConaughey. He was nothing like I pictured over, no joke, probably 20 books. Eventually I watched Burn Notice and the character Michael Westen was exactly how I pictured Dirk (both looks and his personality.) If anyone had read this far, thank you. I'm still not over it.

I imagine all characters differently from movies and even after watching them it doesn't influence me. But I feel like the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice has a nearly perfect cast! I could never get on board with the Keira Nightly version.

I also have aphantasia. People are probably the hardest for me to imagine, I can get hair length and color, sex, and maybe skin color if I focuse really hard. I can only imagine things I have seen, so if a book has a movie, all the book characters look like the actors if try to imagine them. When I was younger I read books in Finnish. Finnish doesn't have different 3rd person pronouns for men and women and sometimes I couldn't guess the gender right based on the name. Quite often I'd think character was one gender and later in the story they would be refered to as man/woman and I'd realise I had gotten the gender wrong xD

Don't get me wrong, the actress who played her is very beautiful, but I imagined this petite skinny teenager, somebody more fierce with sharper facial features, and Shailene was more curvy with softer face. I don't think the first question was asking about movies/adaptations. They quite often are not faithful to the book's descriptions of character appearances. It's more like if you've ever been reading a book, and then you read a sentence that makes you realise you've been picturing the character wrong the whole time. Recently I was reading a book, and I thought the protagonist had dark hair because he HAS DARK HAIR ON THE COVER, and then I got slapped in the face with "honey-coloured hair." And every time since then I read that he had honey-coloured, golden, or just plain blond hair, it felt like the author was deliberately trolling me lmao.

I skip different POV chapters but I come back to them. If there is a character whose story is very interesting I can't wait! I skip ahead and read a few of their chapters before going back and catching up with other characters. For example Ten Soon in The Hero of Ages, I read almost all of his chapters before backtracking and catching up with the others. Also I skipped some flashbacks in Stormlight Archive series because the present was more interesting. I always come back to read the skipped parts later on.

Spoiler Warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With The Hunger Games Series, I don't like what they did with Peta in the movies. I thought Hutchenson looked like he was supposed to for the most part. What I didn't like was that they never took Peta's leg at the end of the first movie. The whole point on why Katniss was worried about him going into the arena again was because he lost a leg in the last one and he'd be at a huge disadvantage.
She's not scared about him not being able to swim with two healthy legs, but with one leg and one prosthetic, it's hard. Uneven terrain would wear him out. It really just pissed me off. My cousin said it was because Hemsworth looked so much better, but Gale was supposed to be a heartthrob who was poor and Peta was supposed to be somewhat attractive but part of the middle-ish class so he had more interest.
Sorry I can rant about this for ages.
With the new book, I don't want it to be Snow was good and pure and then suddenly turned evil or even a slow descent into evil.

I am an absolute monster when it comes to skipping lol I will ruthlessly skip anything and everything that I don't care to read about. Sometimes I have skipped entire books in a series 😅just jumped to the ending of the last book. I think I skip so much because stories just need to be finished for me. I start reading a book....I will finish reading the book. I don't do the whole read-a-book-in-multiple-days kind of thing very often. Mostly I just read until it's finished. That means I have to skip, otherwise I would not be able to actually live like a normal human being. ^^ My justification is mostly that I read for entertainment so I don't think I owe it to the author or anyone really to do something for entertainment that I don't find very entertaining. lol It has made me sometimes miss important things though but never anything I really cared to know. And I could always go back and read it again if I would want to, have done that actually a few times. By the second read through I might also skip things though...also I might not start at the beginning but instead read randomly. Honestly, I am chaos incarnate when it comes to reading lmao 🤷‍♀️

When it comes to character names, I've always pronounced Sazed (Mistborn) "Sa-zed" but then I heard most people on booktube pronounce it "Sayzd". I love the cast from The Hunger Games mostly because of nostalgia but let's be honest, they did Katniss, Gale and Haymitch dirty with the white-washing, and Josh isn't my Peeta either, the actress for Annie isn't close to what she looks like in the book. Usually when I picture a character differently that what they actually look like, it has to do with their hair : colour or length. I'll be picturing someone with a hair colour and then 100 pages later I'll realize it was not that colour at all 😬

You can know how to do all of that, but it doesn't make you a good writer, but being an avid reader, particularly of edited and published materials, WILL improve your writing skills.

Yes definitely. I'm dyslexic but have always read a lot. I don't have that big a problem with writing, I even find myself correcting other people, but never ask me to read out loud or spell something by sound. I can only spell by memory, and can never guess how a new word is supposed to be pronounced or written 😅

Definitely, I always read a lot as a kid, and when I was in middle and high school I was shocked to see some people's nonsensical writing, you could see the difference between those who read and those who didn't to their grammar.

I recently read the shining. I watched the movie ages ago but the actors of the movie are still pretty well in my memories. The actress playing Wendy is a brunette. And then in the book he kept talking about Wendys blond hair. That was kind of frustrating

I also skip names in books, when I read Twilight I actually often got confused because I mixed up Carlisle/Charlie a lot.
I barely read any books for school.
I never skipped chapters of a book, but there were a few POVs I would have loved to skip, like Jacob in Twilight or Cameron in the Red Queen Series, or somtimes I wish there was a different POV in books, for example Rin annyoed the hell out of me in the middle of Poppy War and in the beginning of Dragon Republic.

Names in books are always kind of a hit and miss for me, because I read then the way i'd like them to sound and most of the time I'm wrong. Currently reading the Wheel of Time, and the names in this are a struggle and a half.
The only required reading i didnt ginish for school was when my English teacher wanted us to read '13 reasons why'. No interest whatsoever in that book.
And I haven't skipped social events because of reading, but I have nearly missed trains/busses because I wanted to squeeze in one more chapter lol

For the, "a character name that you've been pronouncing wrong" question... I am so guilty of this! I always feel super embarrassed after I hear somebody pronounce their name properly too, because it usually makes so much more sense. Like in the Darker Shades of Magic trilogy and the character Rhy? Ree. For all three books I called him Ree. Then I heard a booktuber talking about him and pronouncing it as Rye. Oops.
Your lipstick is such a pretty colour, by the way! Can I ask what shade you're wearing?

In Pride and Prejudice Darcy is handsome and Elizabeth is supposed to be kind of average looking while Jane is the "beautiful sister".
But in the 2005 movie... Lizzie is arguably more beautiful than Jane. And Darcy... yikes :DD
