So, watched this for the 1st time tonight. I began attending MH in 2004 and moved to Portland in 2013. I practically wore out my bible when I was there. Had to have it rebound, actually. I was away from MH when all of this was happening and my heart hurt for what was going on and the people that I knew who would be wounded by this. I cannot speak directly to the whats and facts of the why's and how's. But i can attest to the fact that Mark was instrumental is helping hundreds if not thousands of people become part of God's family. Again, i cannot speak directly of what happened once I left, only to what I experienced while under Mark's teaching. I miss it dearly and what many people don't get to or mention was the music at MH. The music was as anointed as was Mark's messages. If you haven't heard Red Letter's "Destructor", you should. As for the comments below criticizing Mark and Reformed Theology for that matter, I have to take it that none of you are preachers and therefore may not really be able to understand your own "critical" thinking. Reformed Theology is Authentic, Biblical Theology. What I believe now is that any church is hard to build from scratch and it will not get easier as time goes on. As churches increase, so will false teachers and those who willingly scorn those who chose to preach the Word. But, as both of those increase, so will those who follow the teaching and will be led to accept Jesus. As Mark has apologized, I accept that. Prayers that he and his family heals well.

This man is a revolting example of why churches need strong oversight structures. I note he is not screaming and accusing people of dreadful sins during this announcement. Strange, as that's how he operated. Good riddance.

I am submerged in rage and grief
and terror an panic and SEVERE PTSD.
I'm so all alone, and all I feel is trauma.
I am abandoned and betrayed; discarded.
    LIKE GARBAGE.
    Debilitating paralyzing panicked pain:
My best friend abandoned and betrayed me.
    I am suicidal and despaired.
    Desperate. Breathless. Hyperventilating.
However, in the midst of this, I've learned these lessons:
    - what him and I had: was an AMAZING BEAUTIFUL adventure!
for whatever reason, it wasn't meant to last...
I'm grateful though, to have had it for the 17-months, that we did
    - everything happens gradually then suddenly...
    - children make everything about themselves,
adults still do the same (very erroneous)
    - I'm better without him because I want TRUE LOVE,
THE REAL THING. THE FULL MEAL DEAL.
he's better without me because he wants 100% focus on his businesses
and moving off-grid. ultimately, eventually: we'd just be in each other's way...
    - NO MORE: Victim mindset
    - NEVER talk shit about myself
    - stop comparing self to others, put self on a pedestal
    - stop taking shit personally, he has his wounds and traumas and insecurities, too!
    - standards and boundaries
    - inner child healing
    - prioritize self
    - be how you would be as a confident person
    - be in alignment
    - me and my two sisters are the generational curse/trauma breakers
    in our blood line...🔥🔥🔥

People want to blame Driscoll for the downfall of Mars Hill. But in truth, it was a failure of the entire church - especially the elders who desired power over and above Mark. Their unwillingness to submit and listen, as well as follow biblical examples of conflict resolution, led to the downfall of Mars Hill. If you have ever served as a pastor, you will understand the failing of church leadership on all those levels. If you have never served in said capacity, then you will blame the leader only because he is the only one you visibly see and he is an easy scapegoat. Look to your own sin and quit blaming others for your bad decisions and sinful disobedience.

Just got back to Jesus (working my way back) after a 20 yr absence. Regardless of his downfalls and shortcomings, I’m here to learn about the trinity..not about Driscoll…but I enjoy his delivery and his preaching. That’s my personal opinion and does not have to match yours. My working relationship is with God himself but I have no issue listening to Driscoll teach the word. No man is perfect and that is part of this journey we all call life.

People think that conservative, Reformed men delighted in this day, but actually, it’s heartbreaking. The public witness of the church has been marred by Driscoll. And it’s the case with many of the guys in the Elephant Room series. MacDonald, Driscoll, Perry Noble, they are all gone. Furtick is still, weekly, preaching shallow sermons. Hopefully this will bring the church back to repentance and faith in Christ.

    • @ekinwilliston

What's interesting to me, Steve, is that the Reformed men I know personally are, each and every one, arrogant, dismissive, and selfish. They think they know the truth, and everyone who doesn't agree is stupid and needing education and rebuke. Driscoll is a good example of this, although I am comparing his public persona to my personal acquaintances, I know. Furtick might present shallow sermons, but I'll take him any day over condescending Calvinists.

He help to initiate a system of abuse to his own congreagation. He not only was a very abusive man but installed men who were of the same demeanor and had no business leading others (deacons, small group leaders). Even cursing at fellow member was deemed acceptable if they felt they were enforcing what they felt was right. It was a very toxic environment. I was there and experienced this. In the end, the fellow brothers he said he was going to hold himself accountable to( as he stated in thisd video), he shortly told them I dont want or need your counseling. He then packed his bags and started a new church in Arizona. I beleive he isnt fit to be a pastor because he is running from the issues that brought this all about. Its hard to watch this video knowing all this and making himself out to be a victim. I hope there is true and sincere repentance. I only write this to say be careful when these public statements are made.

I’m just learning of Mark Driscoll as he has accompanied great people of God that I highly respect. I hear he resigned to pastorship in the mega church he lead from scratch and that many libraries were taking his books of their shelves. Then I heard Ps Jhon Piper comments on the matter and made me even more curious about what happened. But when I see and listen to this message of Mark addressing his church, I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration of his humility and courage recognizing his flaws and the necessary steps to be taken.
