This was an excellent podcast series. I am thankful to Mike and the whole crew for producing it, for all the effort that went into it, and the courage to face the abuse in the church. It is necessary to bring it out into the open, so that the church may be protected against future abuse. It will not be easy, but it needs to be done for the love of Jesus and his church: the bride he is gathering and making holy.
I just got over being sick and my voice sounded like that. I could feel the pain in your voice and empathize with you! This was such a thought provoking series, i really appreciate it. Bringing in the experts in the bonus episodes was a wise move for you, and brought wisdom to the listeners.
I appreciated hearing all of the videos. I am appalled by Mark Driscoll's language. I've never heard Christian friends talk like he did. He also did many other evil things. It is challenging for me to believe that people could and do listen to and support and follow him. I realize he said good things, but they weren't enough. Scary!
Even though his demanor wasn't gentle and ought to have been, correcting your opponents with gentleness and perhaps they will repent, he was contending for the faith once and for all given to the saints taking every thought captive against the universalist.
I’ve listened to this entire series. Slick production, very NPR-ish. But the editorial position is like that of 1980s grandma church, congregation aging out, and stuck a stylistic rut. Pearl clutching defenders of the fluff. Mars Hill left us a blue print, their wipeout put flagnotes on the blue print. Preach the gospel In it’s entirety, sincerely, directly, without apology, and confrontationally as our loving father is. Preach to Men! Young Men and build God centered families. Make small groups, service, and repentance a life style (you missed that while clutching pearls). Make culture conform to scripture, not the revers. And the flagnotes …leadership needs to live by the same rules and held to a higher standard. Serve the living water neat. Jesus was a rebellion from the world, following him is giving the principalities of darkness the middle finger. Own it.
Fantastic series thank you. Perhaps one day someone will explore just how narcissistic the Christian religion is. It's all about the self, the personal relationship with a god and the personal salvation. Christianity offers no opportunity to become immersed in the other. The other is always foreign, suspect, non-Christian, lost. The other has nothing to share or teach the Christian until the other too loses their humanity to become a Christian, to be enveloped into the fold of the narcissist faith.
I agree, although I do think that’s especially characteristic of the US version of Christianity. Although I think everything you said applies to all Christianity, it seems to manifest a little differently, maybe slightly less harmfully, in cultures that are less individualistic.
Loving God above all, and additionally loving your neighbour as you love yourself... Following the example of Jesus, certainly is not about being concerned only for oneself.
the bible teaches us to die to self and serve/love others as ourselves. What you say I believe is common in the church but it is not biblical and not christian. the mistakes of people in a religion don't change the truth of the religion. god bless
What an amazing podcast series.
Thank you for all who contributed.
Prayers to the survivors.
I pray that Driscoll will eventually repent.
Thank you for exposing abusers and the cult of personality

What's the name of Mars Hill's first album?

Pretty much
It should be the opposite. It is about Jesus, and serving others.
