  • The Rolling Stones were on a roll! Between 1968 and 1972, they put out four albums that many fans say are their greatest, and some even say they're among the best rock albums ever made. Their last album in this amazing streak was a double album called "Exile on Main St." It was a wild ride to close out this epic period, just like you'd expect from the Stones.
    Most folks know the story behind the album's name: the band had to leave England for a while because of high taxes, so they rented a place in France to make their music. But even though they were in Europe, the music on "Exile on Main St." is a mix of blues, soul, country, and rock - a sound that's all over the map in the best way possible.
    This is a special double album - all 18 songs are fantastic, no duds here! Let's dive into each track and see what makes them so great.

    Great song, great feel, great vocals. Just one of those things that the Stones do/did so well. And a real tribute to the often overlooked Mick Taylor.

      @@andrews527 : I NEVER SAID he stole anything from anyone because Mick T is a genuine blues / rock artist but now what I did mean is he never received creidt for songs he DID write for the Stones. You should know this if you're a Rolling Stones fan, however, I have a feeling I've been listening to that band longer than you been alive, sonny boy...

    Yes Stones songs structures were immensely improved by the likes of Hopkins, Keys, Ry Cooder, Billy Preston. This is what's missing now in Hackney Diamonds : songs sound naked compared to the past

      Agree 100%. Love the Stones, always will. Unfortunately I just don't think we'll ever hear anyone like Bobby Keys or Nicky Hopkins on their songs again. It was a perfect fit.

    • @Gordy63
      @Gordy63 3 месяца назад +5

      I find the production of Hackney Diamonds to be too “bright.” I think the producer (and the band) were trying to prove the band still had amazing energy despite their advanced ages. I think a dialed back production would have sounded better and more organic, like their old classics.

      Jagger has said that's exactly what he wanted to do. Make a bright crisp 2024 record. The old records are still there to be listened to but they are of their era and so is HD.

    • @The98Dude
      @The98Dude 3 месяца назад

      @@TheBearBiffo yep. But producer Watt made a too poppy sound. Stones were pop in the 60s, but their quintessential sound is Rock in the 70s. They should have kept it. Not many guitars in HD. And when there are, production is no good.

      @@nihilistlivesmatter Nihilist's can't think very clearly. Where did I say Brian Jones would have "bettered" Mick Taylor? I said Brian would have played some great slide guitar. Were members of the Stones in competition against one another? For all we know, Brian would have also overdubbed a savvy clarinet arrangement, or added a part for prepared piano. Don't exhibit contempt and disrespect for the man who founded The Rolling Stones, Auld Schlubbo, you'll upset Bill Wyman, who will arrange to have you bludgeoned with a copy of Gertrude Stein's The Making of Americans.

    The quarrel over Anita, the drug busts, the ouster and death of Brian, Altamont, Allan Klein, tax problems, and the controlled lunacy of Villa Nellcote - The Stones seem to thrive with adversity. I dare say no other band would have survived the long ordeal.
