Thank you for reacting so positively and visibly to another sublime performance by Emma, probably her best performance yet, 12 months ago, many of us saw Emma's debut with Andre at Maastricht, singing Voila, at the time, we regarded it as perfection, and a lot of people agreed with us, 63 Million views on RUclips alone, and huge numbers on other social media sites, she well and truly went viral with that song, and has done incredibly well with many other songs with Andre and with others over the last year. Now, earlier this year, she went to Andre with this new song, never sung before, and Andre saw the huge potential of it, and they have worked their magic on it, and in the process, redefined the definition of perfection, this song raised the bar considerably, and then Emma gave a gold medal performance that went so much higher again, with this new song, she showed how much she has learned over this incredible year by working with the best, and by putting what she's learnt into her performances, and this performance was just wonderful, and the vast majority of listeners were emotional before she sang a word, after those emotional and deep words from Andre and Emma, which you unfortunately skipped, she had everyone in the palm of her hand, and then she went into full on emotional song delivery mode, on several occasions, you can see her eyes change, her lips curl, and she delivers a audible explosion that devastates everything around her, as she goes into full on belter mode, and that's before she delivers those incredible powerful top notes at the end, I still can't fully understand how she manages to deliver such powerful and sustained notes from that tiny frame, but she well and truly does exactly that, very much aided and supported by Andre and the orchestra, who build the song to that wonderful climax with the key change and those incredible top notes. Emma has also matured over the last 12 months, I can't remember another guest star who has appeared at interviews with Andre on so many occasions, being fluent in 3 languages, Dutch, German and English is a huge help in that respect, Emma comes across incredibly well in interviews, and has clearly impressed Andre with the way she has become a much loved member of the JSO, and her age is no hurdle, she has a maturity that goes so far beyond her years. Dancing on the stars has only been on RUclips for a month, it's now gone to close on 5 Million views, and has been trending on RUclips on several occasions, and I won't be surprised if the viewing figures are higher than the figures for Voila this time next year. The song is not as such new, it was penned 20 years ago, before Emma was born, but it's never been performed until now, that said, the writer has written two other songs in recent years for Emma, LAAT MIJ EEN VLINDER ZIJN , let me be a butterfly ruclips.net/video/jAsjpnpGY2M/видео.html and Strijder ruclips.net/video/rL0GLdnWEKk/видео.html While Emma had significant stage experience, Voila was her first appearance with Andre, and the first ever performance of the new version of the song, Emma had learned it because the words so express her life experience, to expand a little on her health issues, she was born with Gastroparesis, a paralysed stomach, and to keep her alive, she was put on tube feeding at 9 MONTHS, for 22 hours a day, so she's never had the experience of eating normally, she can only eat very small pieces of rice cracker, with slivers of other foods on them to let her experience the flavours, so effectively, she cannot share in any of the normal experience of meals with other family members, or close friends, and to make it worse, as the medical profession struggled to diagnose her, they didn't fully diagnose her till she was 10, during those intervening years, things like her gag reflex was damaged, so she can't vomit, which is a serious issue for her condition, as her stomach doesn't properly process and pass food through, and vomiting would be a regular issue for most sufferers of this disease. In addition, her growth was significantly delayed, even now, at 16, she's still only 1 Mtr 50, and weighs around 50 Kg, so still tiny, and as a result, her stamina is significantly reduced compared to most, she struggles to climb more than 2 flights of stairs, even walking longer distances such as through a large airport is a challenge, made worse by carrying 2 feeding pumps in a shoulder bag or similar for 22 hours a day, the equivalent of a boat anchor, but she absolutely refuses to allow her disease to define her, and is determined to live as normal a life as possible, but on a bad day, she may have to resort to using a wheelchair because of fatigue. Her first ever appearance in a show, during Covid, so no audience, was in 2020, she was a tiny 12 at the time, she sang a powerful version of 'Opportunity', ruclips.net/video/oMyqCs6zZP4/видео.html I love the way she ends it with a spoken, 'I guarantee', and that beautiful smile that says she absolutely meant it, and at the same time knew she'd just nailed that performance, it happens a lot, it was the same with Voila, she turned to Andre, arms wide, with a smile, no words, but it was clear what she meant, 'How was that?', and Andre's response said it all, one word, 'Fantastic', the embrace and bringing her back for more of the standing ovation, a wonderful moment and they now happen very regularly. Her next major appearance was the Voice Kids contest in 2021, which she won, ruclips.net/video/20gXikNRjbo/видео.html A very different event, she performed with the Maastricht Star Male Voice choir, singing 'Hallelujah', ruclips.net/video/o3uskk3objU/видео.html A later even stronger performance of a different version of Hallelujah, for Christmas TV, ruclips.net/video/9qVHQuPQud0/видео.html Earlier this year, Emma was honoured to be asked to perform as part of the annual commemoration events in May to remember the huge number of lives lost liberating the Netherlands from German occupation in WWII, she sang at several events across the country, the most prominent being a duet with April Darby, singing ' When you believe', ruclips.net/video/YG8WV1GFt_c/видео.html This concert was in Amsterdam, in the presence of the Dutch Royal family, and she absolutely nailed the performance. For me, her strongest performance, a Demi Levato cover of a technically challenging song, 'Father', ruclips.net/video/zXWBj7-edWU/видео.html From the same concert, another cover, 'Hero', ruclips.net/video/rohP0V3ECRY/видео.html From the same series of concerts, 'You raise me up', ruclips.net/video/NIXB7TbeMvw/видео.html A beautiful home video recorded several years ago during Covid, A Disney film cover, 'Part Of Your World' - @halle (The little mermaid) ruclips.net/video/itxs-aNyRJY/видео.html Another song that is special to Emma because of her health situation, a Miley Cyrus cover, 'The Climb', recorded for Tube feeding week. ruclips.net/video/dOhzlDEuCBg/видео.html When I Get There - @PinkVideoVault, unaccompanied, a song about the passing of a very close friend, given Emma's own situation, so incredibly deep and moving, just incredible. Translation of the note in Dutch, Last night my dear friend Angela became a star! I'm going to miss you incredibly much, but every time I look at the starry sky I know you're looking back ruclips.net/video/0nIpN86mw6E/видео.html I hope this gives you a feel for where Emma has come from, and more importantly, where she's going, there is no doubt that as long as her health situation doesn't worsen, she will be making bigger and better waves for a long time to come, and it's more than clear that she is very happy and comfortable working with Andre and his orchestra at the moment, I am hoping that will continue beyond the end of the 2024 tour season, while it's also good that she can and does do other work outside of the significant demands of the world tour with Andre. I will close with my normal appeal to everyone reading or listening to this channel, Emma deserves and needs as much support as possible, as her foundation works to help find better treatments, or even possibly a cure for this awful disease, her situation hasn't changed since that first appearance with Andre last July, she is still tied to her two external feeding pumps for 22 hours a day, and I know from recent social media posts, she finds the discipline, restrictions and limitations on her life more than hard to cope with at times, despite that she's loving the singing with Andre. Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl Please, if at all possible, join me in making a (regular) contribution to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease that has affected her from birth, hopefully, the work of her foundation will find a cure. Please also be very careful if you post or respond to anything from Emma on social media, her increased visibility has resulted in significant numbers of bad actors creating fake accounts, and looking for money to fund 'special operations', or a whole range of other deceptions, they are all fake and fraudulent, and beneath contempt. One of the main people in Gastrostars is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in treating gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day. It will be so good if the work of Emma's foundation can lead to a better treatment, or even a cure, which will free her to do more singing, and it may be people here who make that possible.
What a beautiful and touching performance by one of the premier young singers in the world today. She has a gift for drawing on her own personal hardships to infuse a song with maximum emotional impact. In this way, she is incomparable. She nailed this performance with extraordinary technical singing and total command of the stage. For a 16 year old to be performing at this level is phenomenal. Emma Kok is a very special young artist.
You can see how comfortable she is on stage when she spoke during the introduction. What is not apparent from the very impressive performance is she is very dedicated to her art & is a very hard worker. Ever since she won the Voice Kids 2021 at 12 yrs old, she had appeared in loads of events. I seen videos of her performing in a local bike race ceremony, local kiddie parks stage events, local festivals, even performed in a corporate team building event, a series of small concerts in her own name, guested in a few concerts & released a couple of teens singles. And then won another contest called Mini Stars in the Netherlands. Now she is in high demand to guest in WW2 memorial concerts.
This is unfortunately not the original complete video where Andre and Emma talk at the beginning, that alone is pure goose bumps and that is missing here, and the sound is miserable.
Talk about professional! Two days before this she was in the hospital to have a procedure to removing her feeding tube she is on 22 hrs/day and refused to be knocked out because she didn't want a breathing tube to possibly damage her vocal cords. The procedure went wrong and it took twice as long as it should have. The next day she was bundled up rehearsing with the orchestra and then the next day performed this. Still running the foundation to raise money for the disease to find a cure.
Thank you for this reaction , we went to the concert of Andre Rieu at Maastricht , right in front of the stage at about 35 meters distance. Just as Emma started singing, an emotional bomb exploded in the square with the song DANCING ON THE STARTS and afterwards VOILA which earned a standing ovation for several minutes. Her beautiful voice touches your soul with the support of the orchestra, an evening to remember for a livetime. Also think that the audience love her mental strength with her illness and the loss of Emma's girlfriend Angela on May 5, 2023 ( ruclips.net/video/0nIpN86mw6E/видео.htmlsi=qws5Z_xKe4mVi4sc ) for the performances of volia last year
That's a good question but given his response to someone else who asked the same question it seems that he doesn't care what his viewers think about that issue.
Thanks for your response. To think that Emma had to undergo a change of the exits in the hospital 5 days before this video recording. A procedure that has to be done every 5 months. Normally this is done under anesthesia but Emma does not want that because of the tube in her throat needed for the anesthesia that can damage the vocal cords,,, All this shows the strength, power and fighting spirit of Emma.
