Beautiful. I respect how rough and ready this was (no registration keys on the rubber mold or mother mold edges) but still pulled a really tight looking cast. That's just inspiring dude!
I've been wanting to do this for a long time. Thanks for explaining the process. You can use the same mold using concrete. A friend of mine used plaster instead of fiberglass and he used to make garden sculptures and statues. Cool. 💀
I am still impressed with how informative your videos are. I always get New knowledge and even ideas from watchujf your videos :) Also the shaddered skull idea was amazing! i might even try it for my self for some of my sculptures Keep on with the good Job!
I had to make over 130 smashable skulls for a play. I of course went the cheap route (given the tight budgets of theatre) with plaster. I thought for sure when I saw you smash that skull you were doing it for the same reason... pleasant surprise to see a what you've done with these! :) Great work as always!
Love it! I sculpted a small skull (between the size of a golf ball and a baseball) and I am wondering what is the best method to make a mold of it for casting? 1. Place in a cup and pour resin in the cup? or 2. two part mold of L and R sides similar to this video... ?
Yes it could. For something this small I'm not sure how well it would pick up the detail, but you'd get something. Generally moulds can do about 40-50 casts before they start degrading if resin is used. I've not tried concrete so I'm not sure if that would change if concrete was used.
I bought a decorative skull and noticed it had a little weight to it. On the very bottom of the stand (it’s a skull and little bit of spine on a stand) there is a little hole. What material could this be made from? I feel the little hole is a clue on how it was made.
I can't find a video of anyone doping this with a skull that has the jaw attached. The model I want to replicate, has the full jaw and it cannot be removed. Could you do a video for that?
Hi! I want to make a skull mould that will create a hollow skull. Would i be able to do it so that i get a top and bottom like in half acrosswise? How can I do this please? Thank you.
Hi Lianne, if I understand correctly I think the method in this video should work. You could either mould a half skull sculpture or mould a full skull and then cut it in half.
Hi mate. Great work excellent detail. Was looking at the Blue Stuff Silicone but could you tell me which brand your using? PS: If you had got some solder you could of used that to get the correct diameter of the cast and convert it to card for a nice snug fit for your resinn jacket
Thanks! I'm using this stuff www.dwrplastics.com/general-purpose-moulding-rubber.html Ah you mean bend some solder round the mould to get the contour? Good idea.
I'm using this stuff with around 3% catalyst, although I'm often not that precise and usually over catalyse, so that might be why it seemed quicker www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/General_Purpose_Resin.html
Haha, it's easier to work in smaller batches rather one one large batch. Plus those small cups don't have any edges moulded into them like some of the larger ones, which makes them ideal.

Enjoyed the factual simplicity of the presentation.been keen on skulls since an early age .liked the brass one in particular.great interesting stuff!
Thanks very much!
Incredible! Your creativity is mind-blowing.
Thank you very much! 😁
Brilliant video, love the creativity with the skull photos!
Thanks 😁

Thanks for watching. Yep plaster and concrete would be possible too.

Thanks dude! Yeah I really like the shattered idea - maybe a shattered mask or face would look cool .
@@thedarkpower i agree, it would Look cool
Thanks for the silicone brush tip mate, much appreciated. Great video.
No probs, thanks!
Awesome and beautifully done I love the variety of materials and colors you used
Thanks, very kind :)

Thanks! It is rather fun smashing them I have to admit ;)
i love that you solved the waste issue of used brushes by using a silicone brush. 8:00
Thanks, yeah those silicon brushes are great!
Glad to learn about the polyester resin and the skulls came out great
Thank you! :)
skulls are always interesting. :) Thanks for sharing. - Heidi
Thanks for watching!
Excellent as always. The cold cast/bronzish skull looks like it belongs on a 40K Space Marine's armour.
Thanks! I might have to make some space marine armour just for that purpose ;)
@@thedarkpower May I recommend the Blood Angels? They are my favorites. You do you, of course. :)
Might have to be Dark Angels for me :)
Fantastic video mate!!
Thanks!
great video as always! i found the smashing of the skulls quite amusing lol
Thanks! Haha, yeah that was fun ;)
This was a great video, thanks for sharing

The easiest way would probably be to attach it to a board, hot glue some foam board around it to create a surround and then pour the silicon.
@@thedarkpower Thank you!
sick dude!
The shattered skull sculpture looks really interesting
Cheers, I appreciate it ;)
Beautiful work!
Thank you very much! :)

The 40K Servo Skull is Bad-Azz, Great Video!
Thank you! :)
amazing work.
Thanks! :)
Brilliant work Sir
Thank you! Cheers!
Really beautiful...💜
Thanks!
Great video dude!
Thanks!
Very nice resin-casting-tutorial. Thank you! Missing, rotten, broken and golden teeths would look good on your skulls.
Thanks, good idea ;)
I smashed that sub button so hard!
Haha, thanks ;)
Merci
great vid thanks
Thanks!
Awesome 👌
Thanks!
For cheapness can also use liquid latex and modroc
That can work but it's a pretty lo-fi way of doing it.
great work m8
Thanks!
Could concrete be used in this type of mold, and if so, how many would it cast before starting to degrade?
Yes it could. For something this small I'm not sure how well it would pick up the detail, but you'd get something. Generally moulds can do about 40-50 casts before they start degrading if resin is used. I've not tried concrete so I'm not sure if that would change if concrete was used.
Great hack!

If it's mass produced I'd imagine it's a blown plastic, maybe abit like a drinks bottle. If it's hand made it could me roto cast polyurethane.
I can't find a video of anyone doping this with a skull that has the jaw attached. The model I want to replicate, has the full jaw and it cannot be removed. Could you do a video for that?
I already have actually - here you go ruclips.net/video/M2UlxNTEAzA/видео.html&ab_channel=TheDarkPower
I was hoping you were going to rebuild the skull with gold glue like the Japanese do with porcelain.
That's a nice idea, I may have to give it a go :)
Great
Sweet. Which is the video you referenced for making the original skull please?
Thank You

Haha, yes tier 2 down here in Surrey too, hope you're well ;)
Cheers good video. What's the music at the start?
Thanks! It's from youtube's royalty free library, I'm not sure of the title though.
I see youre using dwrplastics silicone, have you tried their soft version yet?
Do you mean soft silicon or soft resin?
@@thedarkpower Silicone, i saw they had a soft version @ A15 shore. Was curious how it would hold up as a glove mould.
Oh yes they do don't they, no I've only used the A28 stuff.

@@thedarkpower thats great thank you so much I appreciate your time
What would be a hard durable material to use?
Roto casting polyurethane resin should do the trick. I use polyester here which is much more brittle.
