Very informative and well demonstrated editing techniques. I found your application of the brush tool on the background interesting. I'll have to give that a try on my own bird photography. I have been using the radial or gradient tool and using the color or luminance mask to achieve the same result. I find that using the noise reduction in the local background tool is less impactful on the reset of the image and visa-versa the tool used for lightening the subject avoids adding sharpening to the background. Have you tired these techniques and how do they differ from the global application?
This video was extremely useful. I’ve been using Lightroom for many years and yet I’ve never seen the technique you used to edit your sky - that was really a useful technique for me. Thanks so much!

Hi Anand. I’m the same as you & have just started in Lightroom & know how you feel as it be quite an intimidating thing to use especially for novices like we are. However, I found that just by playing around & trying everything you soon pick it up little by little & the great thing about Lightroom is if you do something you don’t like you can just reset it. Hi awesome image. Can I ask why do photographers use exposure compensation. Why not just use faster or slower shutter speed ?
Hi Dean. Thank you very much for watching. Wildlife photographers tend to shoot in either one of the auto exposure modes (Aperture priority, Shutter priority or in my case Manual with Auto ISO). The reason for that is that you have to be as quick as possible shooting wildlife as most animals and especially birds are constantly on the move. Shooting in full manual mode would often cost you the shot as you would have to set up 3 parameters (Aperture, Shutter, ISO) for the right exposure. With the auto exposure modes we can be much quicker. The downside however is that our camera's light meter isn't perfect and will often leave us with an over or underexposed subject (e.g. high contrast situations). That is where exposure compensation can be used to correct the exposure very quickly. Hope this answers your question ;)

Hi Sabine. Great editing. Some constructive input if I may without appearing to interfere. - When using any of the brush tools to edit an image, it is possible to work more than one section of that image, without having the effect of the previous brush in that area of the image, by clicking on NEW before you start working in a different area of that image section. It is good practice to make yourself always start off by clicking new when ever you use a brush to work on image. Love watching your videos. Please send warm regards to all the Pangolin team. I am trying to make reservation for December to come for Photo safari it does not work????
I have no idea what your distance was from the bird or the size lense you were using. However I have found an off camera metered flash with either a mag light or a better beamer would have handled that image and required alot less post process. I always have a ttl flash attached to my camera whether I need it or not. It is a beautiful image, but I believe in doing as little post work as possible. I want my skills as a photographer to show, not my computer skills.
Im not sure Guy but seeing as it was in the Mara I thing that maybe she wasn't thats close (as you can off road in the reserve). Hopefully when Sabine gets back from the Delta in a couple of weeks she can enlighten us.
Why is the subtitles in this tutorial fixed to German without the ability to change to English?
How much noise reduction do you use at higher ISO e.g. 3200
It always depends a bit on the image but around an amount of 10-20 I'd say ;) -Sabine
I recently switched to Luminar 4, and I am finding that with a few exceptions, it is similar to LR.

I believe most of the guides work on LR rather than Photoshop. We do have a full free LR course in the pipeline so keep an eye on the channel if you are interesting in learning that too.
