This weeks story mission gives us more confirmation that the veil and traveler created a portal that can manipulate time. To the beginning and end of the universe
I don’t wanna ruin peoples fun for speculation here, but that asset was reused in the first mission of the Lightfall campaign. It’s the reactor you shoot at to destroy the ship. Looks like when they modified the DSC orb for Lightfall, they accidentally modified the original one too.
I just realized that the glowing on Ace is due to Memento Mori, which translates from Latin to "Remember that you will die", thus having even more implications toward memory.
That's pretty annoying and depressing. This is supposed to be either human technology or Eliksni (looks more Eliksni to me - very different from human databanks). Why would the Cabal have it as the reactor core on their starship? The only potential explanation I can think of is that it is a reactor that Clovis built with knowledge he got from the Darkness, and the new Cabal ship is using the same system.
I think the Traveler itself is like a storage unit for Guardians. Presumably, your Ghost revives you by fetching a backup of yourself from right before your death (otherwise Fusion Rifles would disintegrate you permanently in the Crucible.) Killing the Ghost means those backups are irretrievable. So the Cayde we saw in the Final Shape teaser might be Cayde-6's soul, which has been trapped inside that pocket dimension for 5 years.
Dude after reading your comment my mind was blown. My guess as to why he comes back is it has to do with the veil because (IIRC) the exos that were on neomuna were experiencing some holy magic mushroom shit and "died." The citizens left their bodies and entered the CloudArk which is powered by the paracausal energy field coming off the Veil. The veil is like the "replica" of the Traveler and I guess since the traveler kinda like "soul snatches" you and stores your (this is where I'm combining your comment) your guardian, the Veil too should be able to revive its "citizens" if it had the full capabilities of the traveler.
we have a lore tab that somewhat explains the "ressurection", where your ghost pulls an alternate version of you that didn't die at that moment where you did and uses that to "rebuild" you, persay. its a lore tab about a guardian who cant be revived because they got stuck in a temporal trap and their ghost couldn't revive them because there was not a version of the timeline where they didn't fall into the trap. this is also the lore reason for darkness zones, because if you die in a darkness zone, there isn't a version of you where you survived or something like that.

Yeah, this actually changed with Lightfall's launch, not in Season of the Deep. That model is reused in one of the missions in the campaign, must've changed it in Europa as well by accident.
People also forget how cayde is radiating with light like we've seen with traveler's chosen and ace. Along with a ghost not being shown with cayde when ikora has her ghost out.
his ghost not being shown, and the cracked weapon are the biggest hints I think. maybe there’s a version of him in the timelines that has survived all along, elsie bray or eris morn style…and after learning about this caydes’ survival ikora figures out how to communicate with him, find him, and it has to do with the portal into the traveler. I see her doing this out of a last ditch effort, or desperation. the teaser had an undertone of loss, and sadness, loneliness. just my thoughts.
@cayde spliff let's take a look at ace, back in forsaken it didn't have cracks where the light shines on it, along with it looking to have a steel/shining finish on it now. And as for why I mentioned ghosts, they are tied to how one wields the light. Osiris can wield strand and the fallen can harness stasis, while only the hive have been able to use the light because of ghosts.
I think it's just his "lightbearer ghost" as I've come to call it, any lightbearer who dies a final death probably lives on inside the traveler. The lack of Sundance is pretty telling for sure
This texture was updated with lightfall release. The object was used as the computer in the cabal ship for the first mission. When they updated the texture for that, it changed it on Europa too.
I still think the Final Shape Cayde is somehow "still dead" - the Light energy behind his exo frame cannot be coincidence. I wonder if it might be Ikora's "Cleansed Nightmare" version of him.
Could very well be, but instead of just a mental image like the Nightmares are, It could be effective counterpart Sundance would have already had when he first found Cayde.
Cleansed Nightmare would just be Ethereal Glowing Blue, instead of Nightmares Glowing Red. Cayde in the trailer is looking like a normal exo but with Light pouring out.
@@Nitroband The nightmares are "illusory" manifestations powered by Darkness. Light is more of a physical aspect, Osiris goes over this in his strand explanation, so a Light created counterpart would have a much more physical pressence and would be molded through action more than thought, making the only difference between a Light counterpart of a Nightmare and a Lightbearer is the presence of a ghost, and some physical matter of the Lightbearer the ghost first used.

SPOILERS!!!!!!! according with the leaks from the final shape, the cayde we will meet inside the traveler is a spiritual guide of sorts, that is confined to the area that we see on the teaser trailer.
The way Cayde looks, based on the location hes in and the story so far It seems we are not bringing Cayde back but "meeting" him in the place Beyond the portal, some form of afterlife, perhaps where the Ghosts take our copies from.
I’ve theorized something similar as well. The setting we see from the trailer is wherever or whenever is inside the Traveler. The Cayde we see is one that has the accumulated knowledge of every death he’s lived and his past life before becoming a Guardian. He’s become one with the Light, able to use his powers of the Light (and Dark), without need of a Ghost. Sensing the threat of the Witness encroaching into its domain, the Gardner awakens Cayde as the first of long dead Guardians that had died their final deaths. As a type of afterlife for Guardians, we may see past legends like Fellwinter, Liu Feng, the Sunbreakers, past Hunter Vanguards, etc. While Cayde may act as our reluctant guide (reluctant, because he probably wouldn’t like that type of responsibility). The only caveat to all these dead Guardians reawakening here, is that they are one with the Light. They cannot leave, and we can’t take them with us back to the physical plane of Sol. The Gardner may have promised them a peaceful afterlife in its domain, after the threat of the Witness is repelled and/or killed. That’s my theory anyway.
I think the Traveler holds copies of Guardians that are used as a base for resurrection. We're restored from a back up copy, or our bodies are at least, considering we have memories of what happened.
I feel like it’s something similar to Odin having a hall ow warrior in Norse mythology, maybe the traveler has the “spirits” of fallen guardians inside of it or in some sort of Valhalla awaiting the final confrontation with the darkness
Would be amazing if we see bits and pieces of the other Traveller ascended races like the Ammonites. Likely not charcaters, but at least mentions in locations or structure pieces
You know that entry in the Felwinter lore about how Felspring couldn't repair his protected memory and he had to shoot himself and get rez'd to get restored back to normal. It's an interesting parallel to how the Exo memory bank sphere/restore cycle works, just with the added external harddrive backup of the Ghost being able to restore memories from their time as a guardian. The ghost takes a snapshot of the baseline then space magics the reconstruction of the baseline through Light powers and uploads the most recent memory backup either to Exo's or wetware.
It makes sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if in some respect Cayde in that cutscene had become a kind of Ghost. As in the small flying shells all guardians have. The Traveller is also referred to as the Great Machine after all and the Ghosts are just machines themselves. Perhaps Cayde has manifested (or more likely was manifested by the Traveller) as a kind of link to the Traveller same as the Ghosts are.
I feel like Cayde is going to be the destination vendor, which means he won’t be able to leave. As for an explanation for why he can’t leave I think the ghost/spirit theory has merit, but I also like the idea of the traveler manifesting him as a defense mechanism. Cayde could be the key to help us defeat the witness but we don’t realize how or why until later in the story and he specifically is brought back because the traveler knows what will make him the necessary choice to bring back from the veil
It was like that last season during the Lightfall campaign. Its because Bungie reused the ball as the Cabal ship reactor for the first Lightfall mission and in doing so it retextured the one on Europa
I think what's inside the traveler isn't just some cross point between dimensions or timelines. It's just an afterlife for guardians, so we might see the titan that died from season of the deep or even Sagira in some way, shape, or form similar to Tolan. It's basically the guardians ascendant plain. Or it could be the gardener in disguise leading us on towards defeating the witness.
@@KillerAteyu Bungie has been shown to be sloppy and take shortcuts before. The level designers wanted a sphere to be a Cabal computer core, grabbed the one from Creation, edited it, and accidentally saved over the original asset. Pretty sure that's exactly what happened.
@@KillerAteyu bungie is absolutely that sloppy, they've flat out told us the game's engine is struggling to keep up with the amount of stuff they've put into it. that's the real-world reason they had to sunset 4 whole planets in the first place, to free up space.
One thing I never understood is. How does a exo guardian know how many times they've been reset? He's a guardian now.. He has no memory of who he was or how many times hes been reset. Unless it's carved in to their exo frame. Byf? Help?
Exo Guardians are lucky in that their actual names are baked into their core programming, so when one gets rezzed by a Ghost they can already know what their name is. Felwinter was an exception to this as their Pre-Ressurrection existence as Rasputin's 'Siddharta Golem' did not seem to have a name as far as we know.
I have a sneaking feeling that Cayde 6 has a secret stash somewhere where he kept a backup of himself lol. Or FailSafe has a copy somewhere because of the fun banter they shared; well as far as Failsafe is concerned lol. Cayde 7 will not be our Cayde; but Cayde is a smart one and he will get up to speed quite quickly lol. As long as it makes for a fun Quest. Oh and be sure to go and talk to Clovis. He had a bit of final dialogue at the end of the Rasputin season. Not much but something that is added lore 😊
Cayde-7 has been in lore before, and when i think of Cayde-7, i can't help but think of Calus' fanfiction for the future. That Cayde-7 would likely not just not recognize us, but would likely also side with the Darkness. A terrifying thought.
We could some how bring cayde back to life through multiple steps but I also have a feeling that (broken Ace of spades aside) it was a memory sequence of Ikoras Kind of like Joxer when he made contact with the traveler he received some sort of memory

I’m almost certain Cayde is inside the Traveler and that’s where Risen go when they die their final death. I think their Ghost returns it’s light to the traveler when it is destroyed, and whatever parts of their personality that were imprinted on their ghost is resurrected a final time within the Traveler’s “Pale Heart” or “Garden” but is incapable of leaving it. Essentially, it’s Guardian Heaven.
What if instead of only the light we used another form of energy such as the darkness to help revive him, it would explain why he has no ghost and why the energy is constantly shown, plus it would make sense as the pyramids went in with the witness
In forsaken, when we unlock our new abilities, Ikora has some dialogue about the light, but the one thing that stuck to me is her explaining that the light of a guardian is still present in the universe, even after their final death, including Cayde's (I'm paraphrasing). So, (And this is a personal theory) the Cayde we see in The Final Shape trailer is a manifestation of his light, a paracausal kind of corporeal form of his light.

I know it might not be likely, but it could be something to the effect of grief hallucinations. With Lance's passing, Zavala could be leaving us soon. If that happened, it could leave Ikora in such a rough mental state that she starts to see her old friend as a coping mechanism.
I've honestly been thinking this for a while now. On top of this, That Cayde, as far as we know, is still dead, reanimated by the light in the record. So by dying, we too can go through the portal. We can bring about what we saw in the corridors of time years ago., which is when I think the plans for The Final Shape were put into motion.
I believe that 1-5, maybe 6 as well were resets for security reasons. His old message to us in the ace of spades mission was talking about his old deployments. I'm thinking that 6th may have been the vex invasion of europa.
I read a comment ln Zavalr's post that the ball asset was updated and used as the engine on the cabal ship in the first Lightfall mission, and since they have the same base code the one on Europa changed to look like the engine on the ship.
We’ve seen that the Darkness can restore memories. Could the Strand be a macguffin to return his memory? Or, as the portal into the Traveller seems to transcend time, could that be a mechanism to return Caydes memory, possibly his complete memory across all his lives?
I think that cayde is in bassically in the after life for guardians or something weird like that as it shows him being on the otherside of the portal in the traveler so bassically he is brought back that way just to keep things simple and not like were reconstructing his conciseness
Here’s a idea, what if it’s both, and we get to see the “Cayde-6” from final shape meeting a Cayde-7 someone created from the memory ball, how sort that sounds like it could be weird and fun. Kinda contrived but also kinda interesting since we’d get to see two versions of the same exo interacting.

I've been saying this for a while now: The traveler is basically an archive of all the paracausal energies it grants to the guardians, those in whom reside in part within the garden. The traveler itself.
Correction: If Cayde is restored from Exo Memory Banks, he would *NOT* have his Golden Age memories. That's one of the big things that hindered the Exo program at the start, old memories.
@@likwid_smoke and he was wrong... after the first failed exo tests, they found that restoring memories of the person caused billboarding/Dissociative Exomind Rejection (DER). If Cayde's Treasure Island journal is to be believed, and there's no reason to believe it is untrue, Cayde wasn't converted to Exo til the project was in mass production as a means to work off debt -- very likely after the Exo/Vex war on Europa and the destruction of the cloud storage. There was no way they were wasting space storing the memories/data of millions(?) of people that they never had plans to restore.
Funny, I was just quickly running through Beyond Light this afternoon on my new light Hunter and noticed they've changed the campaign quite a bit. You get stasis powers at various points including the empire hunts, which I don't remember happening before.
I might need to check this out. Might remake my Titan, not quite fond of how he currently looks and I haven't even run him through Lightfall either, so loss of campaign progress and powers would be minimal.
I like how when I first saw this I was like: “wow! Bungie is teasing things at places very far from landing zones, this is cool!” Then realized it was a just a reskin texture lol😂
Something that no one has mentioned yet is that the Cayde on the teaser has a different colored light in his mouth. Earlier, his mouth glows orange when he talks. In the teaser, it’s the same color as his eyes
Maybe the whole idea is a red herring. We first hear Ikora talk about Cayde, so maybe like an enhanced version of the poukas or a light version of the Nightmares, Ikora just remembered him into existence for a brief moment.
The memorial in the tower, the brain ball on europa, I think these are just ways for bungie to bring cayde back into our forward memory. A way to remind us, and new players, how much cayde meant to us before the final shape. It's meant to make his reappearance more impactful for those who weren't here for his death.
I put this theory back on Aztecross reaction video to the Final Shape trailer: "My theory is that being connected to the light through a ghost creates something like a cloud save of a guardian within the traveler, and so long as your ghost still lives that save is constantly being updated with your current self (memory wise). I think what we're seeing is Cayde not when he died but when his ghost died."
I honestly never saw Exo’s as machinery. I don’t have a good grasp on the creation of Exos but I always saw the Exo process as literally transferring a humans soul into a robot. Or replicating it somehow. It’s not like Ghosts can rez a tickle-me Elmo or a forklift. Exos have something in them, a spark, that Ghosts can tap into and resurrect.
I wonder if they just find Cayde-6 in the portal and that’s inside the traveller, where they find the final version retained by the traveller. I know that the ghost resurrects you from a timeline where you’re alive or something like that. But maybe the traveller keeps fallen guardians.. like a guardian heaven.
As soon as I saw the teaser trailer I instantly thought, where cayde and ikora are is where anyone touched by the travelers light might go when they die. But ghosts connect the souls or essence of the fallen guardians from this "afterlife" back to the physical world. And that's how our resurrection works we just can't remember being wherever that place is because our souls don't retain any memory from that plain. I think ghosts act as a type of mini veil, which I know we don't know exactly what the veil does, but what if it's a access point to the domain of the gardener. And the reason why the witness needs it is to pass into that domain both physically and with full memory intact. And in the trailer, I think ikora is either dead and catching cayde up and events that's happened since he died, or she found a way through the veil and met up with him.
Interesting idea for Cayde being reborn with the ball (if at all): we use a combination of the Cayde we see in the Final Shape trailer, and the Brain Scan of Cayde from the Golden Age. My exact idea is that we'll somehow use FS-Cayde (Final Shape) to put him in his old Exo body. We could somehow scan FS-Cayde's brain, and splice it with GA-Cayde's (Golden Age) scan to make a Reborn Cayde. Basically: 1. Go to Europa or Neomuna, find Brain Scan schematic/machine (CloudArk prototype?) 2. Scan FS-Cayde's Brain 3. Go to Europa, find GA-Cayde scan. (Maybe GA-Cayde has the framework we need to make a proper scan and transfer) 4. On Europa, figure out how to splice together GA-Cayde and FS-Cayde's scans to make it work. 5. Cayde now has a unique ability to have memories from his life as a Guardian and the Golden Age. This is a real long shot, especially since we have no idea how Exo scans and transfers work, nor how Cayde is alive in Final Shape (I'm strongly guessing The River of Souls). Bungie purposefully writes the lore in a way to make it so they can have future ideas and rework them before they are fully implemented.
The Cayde in the sphere will "catch up to the scream" and be pulled out at the last moment before he dies again using the portal in some manner, probably with some lavender-scented paracausal intevention or something like that with Ikora at the helm for some reason.
Firstly lots of comments saying it was changed at lightfalls release and is likely to be a changed texture as it was also used as the reactor of the ship. Makes sense too as it has cabal shielding elements
Given the direction the season of the deep has taken us, I think Savathun might actually have a hand in Cayde’s return. Personally, I think that would be pretty cool.
Ok so this is my read on it. Cayde is in an unknown place even to himself on the other side of the portal. If we take his physical form as an anchor for consciousness then it’s possible that without the body your consciousness reverts to its original realm on the other side of the portal. The whole afterlife scenario.
Me and my friends recently possibly figured out what our third darkness subclass might be, we called it "Siphon" and the idea is that its us manipulating the energies and flow of life and death.
What if when Cayde was so adamant with us keeping ace safe was in some way it holds his recent memory's meaning our Cayde is there but we need to pice his memory's back together
In Cayde-6's lorebook entries, he seemed to have reason to believe that Clovis Bray had used his early Exo incarnations for some shady, clandestine operations (military or espionage, possibly illegal, likely immoral) and that after the missions, Clovis would reboot Cayde to wipe the memory and retain a loyal operative. This seemed to be in the list of grievances that Cayde-6 held against CB and part of why he menaced to expose the secrets of DSC. While it is possible that those musings are entirely speculation on Cayde-6's part, it is also possible that not all (if any) of his iterations came from the battle at the Vex portal.
Short version. Cayde-7 would only be an Exo of a person we never knew. Cayde-6 was paracausal and his personality was formed from his experiences since being resurrected by the traveller. If Cayde really does come back long term and not just as a story cameo, and we're how, then it would have to be something to do with rebuilding his dead body with strand just like the neomuna monuments.
Since I heard that the next season is a called "season of ressurection". I think we be launching an interesting arc that helps find many clues about the portal, how to ressurect cayde 6 or 7, a possible discovery of wielding and controlling a taken power that can we exploit next expansion, and I feel like we be bringing back savathun, and she be our allies against the witness, as we might need her sphere of knowledge that could help us clue us in on the portal, ressurection... remember the quote "the light makes you forget, but the darkness helps you remember". I got the feeling cayde 6 or 7 will remember though darkness. I also feel like we do need savathun's help to do something against Xivu Arath, as I don't think we be taken her down this season.
Okay so myself and a few others have been thinking about this for the last five years… in Forsaken, when Sundance was hit her light hit us on our way to Cayde. What if it has stayed with us all this time waiting for us to go to the traveler? Maybe Cayde’s been stuck there because he’s still tethered to the living world by us? Ikora has Sundances pieces which have to have some residual light left right? What if everything was to be conjoined again? Cayde’s soul, Sundance’s pieces and the light?
Now that is getting us back to savathun once again, back in the witch queen we had a lore tab that had savathun mentioning cayde-7... we assumed that it was her messing up, but now this brings way to many ideas that might be hinted at in that loor, What do you guys think? We have seen a lot of stuff hinted at by savathun and actually happened or attempted already, so what if savathun wasn't playing, wasn't lying, she was just telling us what the future holds
Here Byf let me cut this video to just 1 small paragraph. The ball is not how we will get Cayde-6 at least not alone because the brain scan in the ball is not the Cayde-6 we knew because it wasn't until after he became a guardian did he start experiencing the events that made him into the man we knew. The ball doesn't have those key events saved so we won't get the Cayde-6 that knew it was the events as a guardian that shaped him with out those Cayde will be a person we never met or knew. Like Crow yes he has Uldren's face but he's not Uldren because he didn't have the memories or experiences that made Uldren, Uldren. Same with Cayde with his memories as a guardian he will just be a new light a different person.
Veil to be used as a means to focus on Cyades memories, his lifeless Exo body brought through the gate with a device that holds his memories and restores past him to it with its past-present-future connection to see all of time to a point where he was whole. Also, theory, Vex were the original gardeners with the traveler and we're going to see Earth at the beginning before a drastic event took place and started the "war" between light and dark. Vex mostly wiped out, but muddled broken information convinced them that the universe needs to be tended to, and the best means is to learn, evolve, spread, and eradicate life that doesn't suit the garden they once tended.
I'm of the thought that, the cayde we see in the trailer, is our cayde revived by the traveller by filling cayde with pure light, no ghost as a conduit just straight light imbued.
along with what other people in the comments are saying, the other reason it would not "Be" Cayde, is that the Cayde stored in there is the guy that got downloaded first, so he would only know remember Human Cayde things.
Honestly the only ways I could see this theory of an exo memory sphere being how we got Cayde back are if Cayde found the one with his scan and decided to give it an update or if Cayde secretly got or built an empty one to load his current self in. I can see two ways either could happen. First if Cayde did it manually with help from someone extremely trusted for parts that required a second person, and second if Cayde used vex technology to transfer memories. If he did either I feel like the most likely time would have been when the tower was lost since the loss of the light meant no reviving. The only explanation regarding the light I can see is if when they did pull his memories from a sphere to remake him would be if they used what was left of his ghost or the veil to create a connection, or if when going through the portal he became charged with light to the point his body can't take it which could explain damage. I still find it hard to believe though that this is the way we get him back because while we don't know if he returned with all of that light or got it later we have yet to find out what is needed to cross through the portal so we can't know if someone without the powers of light or dark can cross it. Additionally if it is positioned as a central one it could be someone important instead. I honestly have an easier time seeing it be a copy of Clovis which is being activated to fill an exo body due to the events of the season of the seraph than it being a copy of Cayde.

After reading this weeks lore entry from the weekly quest regarding what was done with Clovis’s big exo, I wonder if we take that knowledge to rebuild a super version of Cayde. Also, perhaps the reason that big Europa ball looks different is that someone had been uploading new data to it. Like a certain Bray girl? Maybe the Cayde we see is from the timeline the Exo Bray came from? Or maybe it’s just a memory/dream Ikora is having. That doesn’t look like water in her cup. Maybe vex milk or pure liquid light?
That whole load of crazy with timelines is most likely correct. Joxer enters the portal and sees himself before being risen, it's clear that versions of people from all points in time are present inside the portal, including our Cayde before his death. DON'T READ FURTHER Leaks confirmed this and called Cayde coming back.
Heres whats gonna happen maybe: the orb will be a little bit of a re dherring but will also simultaneously be used to explain how ghosts and guardians work, and by extension provide an explanation of how cayde CAN return if there was a ghost to ressurect using the copy.

I am very appreciative of this humbling discussion about the likelihood of Cayde coming back in a predictable way... But... I really do enjoy kinda creating a very weak, but fun to speculate about idea of how they will bring back characters, or enact certain story beats. My current running theory is that Rasputin will be resurrected as a Guardian, I know its unlikely, but it's fun to think about. And it's also not entirely impossible... The Hive were just about to use necromancy and a ghost to bring back Oryx, anything is possible. I think there's some merit in the idea that Cayde could come back through being reprinted onto an Exo frame, we then find a way to get that frame into the Traveler's new portal and somehow we end up with Cayde-7... The Traveler has done some wack stuff in the past, and with it's "pale heart" somehow being connected to memory and they are on the other side of that portal... Maybe the Traveler lets them in? Invites them in some way after the Witness gets what its after? A VERY miniscule possibility... But not completely out of the question for me. It'd be like The Traveler takes a moment to recognize one of it's most beloved warriors brought back and cant help but bring them back. Weapon remade, memory restored. What if they're stuck in a point where time doesn't pass and Ikora literally sits there for eons explaining to him what he's missed? AAAAH fuck this game.
Guess we will have a mission to combine a Cayde memory and inject his ghost memories too when we find it to update some memories. When you add yellow (another colour) to caydes blue you get green, his new colour.
it may as well be a good dream of Ikora? just as personal "nightmares" exist in thought and they haunted us before, in veil there could be the confronted nightmares (shown white before in helm)... they could even help us in this realm shown in the teaser.. :)
I saw someone else make a video on it. And I gotta say this again... I'm a new player. I got really into Destiny and its lore a few months ago. Just before the Season of the deep. I was unlocking Stasis during the season of the deviant because "Cool ice power". During that time I had to go past here. The ball had already gotten its glowy holes. So this happened atleast somewhere within Season of the Deviant. Someone said the reason for it being different there is because the model was reused as a cabal core during season of the deviant which changed the original model.
i could see a season of resurrection or soemthing where we do bring back Cayde-7 or whatever, and then use darksight to restore his memories over the course of the season weekly missions
What I think is going to happen is the Veil is essentially a Darkness form of the Traveler, thus how they made Neomuna and their own golden age there. Whilst the traveler terraforms the veil focuses on memory. The witness needed both for his plan of the Final Shape thus why Savathun hid the Veil on Neptune. With both of them the Witness can essentially rewrite time on a fundamental level (thus why the vex can time travel and existed after the final shape in their original timeline) and will seek to end the fight before it can even begin creating the perfect ideal of The Final Shape like it envisions. What we’re seeing in the teaser I believe is the other side of that portal, and it’s less of a portal but more of a wormhole sending us outside the realm of space and time and instead into this “other” place. Thus a character like Cayde is there but he’s not alive per se he’s basically a time remnant. So in an inverse on the Moon and it’s nightmare’s this place will be shaped by important events in our guardian and the Vanguard’s history but they won’t be the real versions of them, just memory and time remnants taking shape. So we might see things like Oryx in there and Cayde maybe even Gaul again as we finally make our way to the Witness and protect all space time, protect our Destiny. That’s my theory surrounding all this. It would explain the Season of the Deep Asha lines that seem to be implying that The Traveler and The Veil are two sides of the same coin and that the witness is seeking to escape time to erase us and instead make the final shape. Nothing will ever exist and nothing will ever die, that fits with depictions of the Final Shape so far. Again all just my theory, I haven’t seen any leaks past the original for season of the deep and that just had to do with Titan and the weapons so if I mention anything that’s consistent with a leak, purely coincidence. But that’s why I think Cayde has Ace but it’s the broken one from the end of Forsaken and he’s all glowing. He’s not physically there, just a memory
It could be both. That orb could be used to retrieve Cayde-1. But the pass through of the portal restores his memory from all his reboots. Perhaps also explaining why Ikora is there. Bc she agreed to do this mission (maybe bc we figure out what it actually does). Could also lend to the original Traveler concept with the woman. I just realized that the glowing on Ace is due to Memento Mori, which translates from Latin to "Remember that you will die", thus having even more implications toward memory.
That's pretty annoying and depressing. This is supposed to be either human technology or Eliksni (looks more Eliksni to me - very different from human databanks). Why would the Cabal have it as the reactor core on their starship? The only potential explanation I can think of is that it is a reactor that Clovis built with knowledge he got from the Darkness, and the new Cabal ship is using the same system.
I think the Traveler itself is like a storage unit for Guardians. Presumably, your Ghost revives you by fetching a backup of yourself from right before your death (otherwise Fusion Rifles would disintegrate you permanently in the Crucible.) Killing the Ghost means those backups are irretrievable. So the Cayde we saw in the Final Shape teaser might be Cayde-6's soul, which has been trapped inside that pocket dimension for 5 years.

Dude after reading your comment my mind was blown. My guess as to why he comes back is it has to do with the veil because (IIRC) the exos that were on neomuna were experiencing some holy magic mushroom shit and "died." The citizens left their bodies and entered the CloudArk which is powered by the paracausal energy field coming off the Veil. The veil is like the "replica" of the Traveler and I guess since the traveler kinda like "soul snatches" you and stores your (this is where I'm combining your comment) your guardian, the Veil too should be able to revive its "citizens" if it had the full capabilities of the traveler.
we have a lore tab that somewhat explains the "ressurection", where your ghost pulls an alternate version of you that didn't die at that moment where you did and uses that to "rebuild" you, persay.
its a lore tab about a guardian who cant be revived because they got stuck in a temporal trap and their ghost couldn't revive them because there was not a version of the timeline where they didn't fall into the trap. this is also the lore reason for darkness zones, because if you die in a darkness zone, there isn't a version of you where you survived or something like that.

Yeah, this actually changed with Lightfall's launch, not in Season of the Deep. That model is reused in one of the missions in the campaign, must've changed it in Europa as well by accident.

People also forget how cayde is radiating with light like we've seen with traveler's chosen and ace. Along with a ghost not being shown with cayde when ikora has her ghost out.
his ghost not being shown, and the cracked weapon are the biggest hints I think. maybe there’s a version of him in the timelines that has survived all along, elsie bray or eris morn style…and after learning about this caydes’ survival ikora figures out how to communicate with him, find him, and it has to do with the portal into the traveler. I see her doing this out of a last ditch effort, or desperation. the teaser had an undertone of loss, and sadness, loneliness. just my thoughts.
Maybe it's some kind of heaven for fallen guardians accessible through the portal created by the Witness
@cayde spliff let's take a look at ace, back in forsaken it didn't have cracks where the light shines on it, along with it looking to have a steel/shining finish on it now. And as for why I mentioned ghosts, they are tied to how one wields the light. Osiris can wield strand and the fallen can harness stasis, while only the hive have been able to use the light because of ghosts.

I think it's just his "lightbearer ghost" as I've come to call it, any lightbearer who dies a final death probably lives on inside the traveler. The lack of Sundance is pretty telling for sure
This texture was updated with lightfall release. The object was used as the computer in the cabal ship for the first mission. When they updated the texture for that, it changed it on Europa too.
I still think the Final Shape Cayde is somehow "still dead" - the Light energy behind his exo frame cannot be coincidence. I wonder if it might be Ikora's "Cleansed Nightmare" version of him.
Could very well be, but instead of just a mental image like the Nightmares are, It could be effective counterpart Sundance would have already had when he first found Cayde.
Cleansed Nightmare would just be Ethereal Glowing Blue, instead of Nightmares Glowing Red.

Light is more of a physical aspect, Osiris goes over this in his strand explanation, so a Light created counterpart would have a much more physical pressence and would be molded through action more than thought, making the only difference between a Light counterpart of a Nightmare and a Lightbearer is the presence of a ghost, and some physical matter of the Lightbearer the ghost first used.

The way Cayde looks, based on the location hes in and the story so far It seems we are not bringing Cayde back but "meeting" him in the place Beyond the portal, some form of afterlife, perhaps where the Ghosts take our copies from.
I’ve theorized something similar as well. The setting we see from the trailer is wherever or whenever is inside the Traveler. The Cayde we see is one that has the accumulated knowledge of every death he’s lived and his past life before becoming a Guardian. He’s become one with the Light, able to use his powers of the Light (and Dark), without need of a Ghost. Sensing the threat of the Witness encroaching into its domain, the Gardner awakens Cayde as the first of long dead Guardians that had died their final deaths. As a type of afterlife for Guardians, we may see past legends like Fellwinter, Liu Feng, the Sunbreakers, past Hunter Vanguards, etc. While Cayde may act as our reluctant guide (reluctant, because he probably wouldn’t like that type of responsibility). The only caveat to all these dead Guardians reawakening here, is that they are one with the Light. They cannot leave, and we can’t take them with us back to the physical plane of Sol. The Gardner may have promised them a peaceful afterlife in its domain, after the threat of the Witness is repelled and/or killed. That’s my theory anyway.
I think the Traveler holds copies of Guardians that are used as a base for resurrection. We're restored from a back up copy, or our bodies are at least, considering we have memories of what happened.
If that’s true we might see more then just cayde… think about all the light bearers that have fallen… the iron lords

You know that entry in the Felwinter lore about how Felspring couldn't repair his protected memory and he had to shoot himself and get rez'd to get restored back to normal. It's an interesting parallel to how the Exo memory bank sphere/restore cycle works, just with the added external harddrive backup of the Ghost being able to restore memories from their time as a guardian. The ghost takes a snapshot of the baseline then space magics the reconstruction of the baseline through Light powers and uploads the most recent memory backup either to Exo's or wetware.
It makes sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if in some respect Cayde in that cutscene had become a kind of Ghost. As in the small flying shells all guardians have.
The Traveller is also referred to as the Great Machine after all and the Ghosts are just machines themselves. Perhaps Cayde has manifested (or more likely was manifested by the Traveller) as a kind of link to the Traveller same as the Ghosts are.

I feel like Cayde is going to be the destination vendor, which means he won’t be able to leave. As for an explanation for why he can’t leave I think the ghost/spirit theory has merit, but I also like the idea of the traveler manifesting him as a defense mechanism. Cayde could be the key to help us defeat the witness but we don’t realize how or why until later in the story and he specifically is brought back because the traveler knows what will make him the necessary choice to bring back from the veil
It was like that last season during the Lightfall campaign. Its because Bungie reused the ball as the Cabal ship reactor for the first Lightfall mission and in doing so it retextured the one on Europa
I can't wait to see how they bring him back. It is gonna be interesting. I just hope that they put a lot of story content into it that we haven't seen
I think what's inside the traveler isn't just some cross point between dimensions or timelines. It's just an afterlife for guardians, so we might see the titan that died from season of the deep or even Sagira in some way, shape, or form similar to Tolan. It's basically the guardians ascendant plain. Or it could be the gardener in disguise leading us on towards defeating the witness.

One thing I never understood is. How does a exo guardian know how many times they've been reset? He's a guardian now.. He has no memory of who he was or how many times hes been reset. Unless it's carved in to their exo frame. Byf? Help?
Exo Guardians are lucky in that their actual names are baked into their core programming, so when one gets rezzed by a Ghost they can already know what their name is. Felwinter was an exception to this as their Pre-Ressurrection existence as Rasputin's 'Siddharta Golem' did not seem to have a name as far as we know.
I liked that i named my Exo character with a 66 at the end. Either i was really brave during the vex excursion or really bad at fighting!
I have a sneaking feeling that Cayde 6 has a secret stash somewhere where he kept a backup of himself lol. Or FailSafe has a copy somewhere because of the fun banter they shared; well as far as Failsafe is concerned lol. Cayde-7 has been in lore before, and when i think of Cayde-7, i can't help but think of Calus' fanfiction for the future. That Cayde-7 would likely not just not recognize us, but would likely also side with the Darkness. A terrifying thought.

I’m almost certain Cayde is inside the Traveler and that’s where Risen go when they die their final death. I think their Ghost returns it’s light to the traveler when it is destroyed, and whatever parts of their personality that were imprinted on their ghost is resurrected a final time within the Traveler’s “Pale Heart” or “Garden” but is incapable of leaving it. Essentially, it’s Guardian Heaven.
What if instead of only the light we used another form of energy such as the darkness to help revive him, it would explain why he has no ghost and why the energy is constantly shown, plus it would make sense as the pyramids went in with the witness
In forsaken, when we unlock our new abilities, Ikora has some dialogue about the light, but the one thing that stuck to me is her explaining that the light of a guardian is still present in the universe, even after their final death, including Cayde's (I'm paraphrasing). So, (And this is a personal theory) the Cayde we see in The Final Shape trailer is a manifestation of his light, a paracausal kind of corporeal form of his light.
That makes sense. So is, like, the Cayde we see the manifestation of his memory? A place where all things exist like Heaven in religions.

I know it might not be likely, but it could be something to the effect of grief hallucinations. With Lance's passing, Zavala could be leaving us soon. If that happened, it could leave Ikora in such a rough mental state that she starts to see her old friend as a coping mechanism.
I've honestly been thinking this for a while now. On top of this, That Cayde, as far as we know, is still dead, reanimated by the light in the record. So by dying, we too can go through the portal. We can bring about what we saw in the corridors of time years ago., which is when I think the plans for The Final Shape were put into motion.
In the audio files from Cayde's death he mentions that he stopped counting at 6 so he's likely died more than 6 times.
I believe that 1-5, maybe 6 as well were resets for security reasons. His old message to us in the ace of spades mission was talking about his old deployments. I'm thinking that 6th may have been the vex invasion of europa.
I read a comment ln Zavalr's post that the ball asset was updated and used as the engine on the cabal ship in the first Lightfall mission, and since they have the same base code the one on Europa changed to look like the engine on the ship.
We’ve seen that the Darkness can restore memories. Could the Strand be a macguffin to return his memory?
Or, as the portal into the Traveller seems to transcend time, could that be a mechanism to return Caydes memory, possibly his complete memory across all his lives?

I think that cayde is in bassically in the after life for guardians or something weird like that as it shows him being on the otherside of the portal in the traveler so bassically he is brought back that way just to keep things simple and not like were reconstructing his conciseness
Here’s a idea, what if it’s both, and we get to see the “Cayde-6” from final shape meeting a Cayde-7 someone created from the memory ball, how sort that sounds like it could be weird and fun. Kinda contrived but also kinda interesting since we’d get to see two versions of the same exo interacting.

The traveler is basically an archive of all the paracausal energies it grants to the guardians, those in whom reside in part within the garden. The traveler itself.

Correction: If Cayde is restored from Exo Memory Banks, he would *NOT* have his Golden Age memories. That's one of the big things that hindered the Exo program at the start, old memories.

If Cayde's Treasure Island journal is to be believed, and there's no reason to believe it is untrue, Cayde wasn't converted to Exo til the project was in mass production as a means to work off debt -- very likely after the Exo/Vex war on Europa and the destruction of the cloud storage.
There was no way they were wasting space storing the memories/data of millions(?) of people that they never had plans to restore.
Funny, I was just quickly running through Beyond Light this afternoon on my new light Hunter and noticed they've changed the campaign quite a bit. You get stasis powers at various points including the empire hunts, which I don't remember happening before.
I might need to check this out. Might remake my Titan, not quite fond of how he currently looks and I haven't even run him through Lightfall either, so loss of campaign progress and powers would be minimal.
One of the TWABs in the past year or two mentioned CAYDE-7 and everyone thought it was a mistake or some intern made a typo... lol

Something that no one has mentioned yet is that the Cayde on the teaser has a different colored light in his mouth. Earlier, his mouth glows orange when he talks. In the teaser, it’s the same color as his eyes
Maybe the whole idea is a red herring. We first hear Ikora talk about Cayde, so maybe like an enhanced version of the poukas or a light version of the Nightmares, Ikora just remembered him into existence for a brief moment.
The memorial in the tower, the brain ball on europa, I think these are just ways for bungie to bring cayde back into our forward memory. A way to remind us, and new players, how much cayde meant to us before the final shape. It's meant to make his reappearance more impactful for those who weren't here for his death.
I put this theory back on Aztecross reaction video to the Final Shape trailer: "My theory is that being connected to the light through a ghost creates something like a cloud save of a guardian within the traveler, and so long as your ghost still lives that save is constantly being updated with your current self (memory wise). I think what we're seeing is Cayde not when he died but when his ghost died."
tbh i think cayde is in the guardian version of Valhalla since we meet him on the other side of the portal and he has light coming out of him

Correct. If we somehow had a copy of the pre-Guardian Cayde-6's memories and put them into a new exobody, it still wouldn't be Cayde-6 the Guardian.

I honestly never saw Exo’s as machinery. I don’t have a good grasp on the creation of Exos but I always saw the Exo process as literally transferring a humans soul into a robot. Or replicating it somehow.
It’s not like Ghosts can rez a tickle-me Elmo or a forklift.
Exos have something in them, a spark, that Ghosts can tap into and resurrect.

I know that the ghost resurrects you from a timeline where you’re alive or something like that. But maybe the traveller keeps fallen guardians.. like a guardian heaven.
As soon as I saw the teaser trailer I instantly thought, where cayde and ikora are is where anyone touched by the travelers light might go when they die. But ghosts connect the souls or essence of the fallen guardians from this "afterlife" back to the physical world. And that's how our resurrection works we just can't remember being wherever that place is because our souls don't retain any memory from that plain. I think ghosts act as a type of mini veil, which I know we don't know exactly what the veil does, but what if it's a access point to the domain of the gardener. And the reason why the witness needs it is to pass into that domain both physically and with full memory intact. And in the trailer, I think ikora is either dead and catching cayde up and events that's happened since he died, or she found a way through the veil and met up with him.
The Cayde in the trailer looks different from the Cayde that died. His face paint is more green than blue like it used to be.
This week's story line has me thinking that the place where we see Cayde and Ikora, is the place where the flower game was played.
Interesting idea for Cayde being reborn with the ball (if at all): we use a combination of the Cayde we see in the Final Shape trailer, and the Brain Scan of Cayde from the Golden Age. My exact idea is that we'll somehow use FS-Cayde (Final Shape) to put him in his old Exo body. We could somehow scan FS-Cayde's brain, and splice it with GA-Cayde's (Golden Age) scan to make a Reborn Cayde.
Basically:
1. Go to Europa or Neomuna, find Brain Scan schematic/machine (CloudArk prototype?)
2. Scan FS-Cayde's Brain
3. Go to Europa, find GA-Cayde scan. (Maybe GA-Cayde has the framework we need to make a proper scan and transfer)
4. On Europa, figure out how to splice together GA-Cayde and FS-Cayde's scans to make it work.
5. Cayde now has a unique ability to have memories from his life as a Guardian and the Golden Age.
This is a real long shot, especially since we have no idea how Exo scans and transfers work, nor how Cayde is alive in Final Shape (I'm strongly guessing The River of Souls). Bungie purposefully writes the lore in a way to make it so they can have future ideas and rework them before they are fully implemented.
The Cayde in the sphere will "catch up to the scream" and be pulled out at the last moment before he dies again using the portal in some manner, probably with some lavender-scented paracausal intevention or something like that with Ikora at the helm for some reason.
Firstly lots of comments saying it was changed at lightfalls release and is likely to be a changed texture as it was also used as the reactor of the ship. Makes sense too as it has cabal shielding elements
Given the direction the season of the deep has taken us, I think Savathun might actually have a hand in Cayde’s return. Personally, I think that would be pretty cool.
Human Cayde was something I didn't know I needed until I saw it. I know it's just Nathan Fillion's head on Cayde's body, but still, it's awesome.

Ok so this is my read on it. Cayde is in an unknown place even to himself on the other side of the portal. If we take his physical form as an anchor for consciousness then it’s possible that without the body your consciousness reverts to its original realm on the other side of the portal. The whole afterlife scenario.
Me and my friends recently possibly figured out what our third darkness subclass might be, we called it "Siphon" and the idea is that its us manipulating the energies and flow of life and death.
What if when Cayde was so adamant with us keeping ace safe was in some way it holds his recent memory's meaning our Cayde is there but we need to pice his memory's back together
In Cayde-6's lorebook entries, he seemed to have reason to believe that Clovis Bray had used his early Exo incarnations for some shady, clandestine operations (military or espionage, possibly illegal, likely immoral) and that after the missions, Clovis would reboot Cayde to wipe the memory and retain a loyal operative. This seemed to be in the list of grievances that Cayde-6 held against CB and part of why he menaced to expose the secrets of DSC. While it is possible that those musings are entirely speculation on Cayde-6's part, it is also possible that not all (if any) of his iterations came from the battle at the Vex portal.
That inspect interaction with the data bank has been there since forsaken.
Short version. Cayde-7 would only be an Exo of a person we never knew. Cayde-6 was paracausal and his personality was formed from his experiences since being resurrected by the traveller.
If Cayde really does come back long term and not just as a story cameo, and we're how, then it would have to be something to do with rebuilding his dead body with strand just like the neomuna monuments.
Since I heard that the next season is a called "season of ressurection". I think we be launching an interesting arc that helps find many clues about the portal, how to ressurect cayde 6 or 7, a possible discovery of wielding and controlling a taken power that can we exploit next expansion, and I feel like we be bringing back savathun, and she be our allies against the witness, as we might need her sphere of knowledge that could help us clue us in on the portal, ressurection... remember the quote "the light makes you forget, but the darkness helps you remember". I got the feeling cayde 6 or 7 will remember though darkness. I also feel like we do need savathun's help to do something against Xivu Arath, as I don't think we be taken her down this season.

Okay so myself and a few others have been thinking about this for the last five years… in Forsaken, when Sundance was hit her light hit us on our way to Cayde. What if it has stayed with us all this time waiting for us to go to the traveler? Maybe Cayde’s been stuck there because he’s still tethered to the living world by us? Ikora has Sundances pieces which have to have some residual light left right? What if everything was to be conjoined again? Cayde’s soul, Sundance’s pieces and the light?
Now that is getting us back to savathun once again, back in the witch queen we had a lore tab that had savathun mentioning cayde-7... we assumed that it was her messing up, but now this brings way to many ideas that might be hinted at in that loor,
What do you guys think? We have seen a lot of stuff hinted at by savathun and actually happened or attempted already, so what if savathun wasn't playing, wasn't lying, she was just telling us what the future holds
Here Byf let me cut this video to just 1 small paragraph. The ball is not how we will get Cayde-6 at least not alone because the brain scan in the ball is not the Cayde-6 we knew because it wasn't until after he became a guardian did he start experiencing the events that made him into the man we knew. The ball doesn't have those key events saved so we won't get the Cayde-6 that knew it was the events as a guardian that shaped him with out those Cayde will be a person we never met or knew. Like Crow yes he has Uldren's face but he's not Uldren because he didn't have the memories or experiences that made Uldren, Uldren. Same with Cayde with his memories as a guardian he will just be a new light a different person.
Veil to be used as a means to focus on Cyades memories, his lifeless Exo body brought through the gate with a device that holds his memories and restores past him to it with its past-present-future connection to see all of time to a point where he was whole.
Also, theory, Vex were the original gardeners with the traveler and we're going to see Earth at the beginning before a drastic event took place and started the "war" between light and dark. Vex mostly wiped out, but muddled broken information convinced them that the universe needs to be tended to, and the best means is to learn, evolve, spread, and eradicate life that doesn't suit the garden they once tended.
I'm of the thought that, the cayde we see in the trailer, is our cayde revived by the traveller by filling cayde with pure light, no ghost as a conduit just straight light imbued.
along with what other people in the comments are saying, the other reason it would not "Be" Cayde, is that the Cayde stored in there is the guy that got downloaded first, so he would only know remember Human Cayde things.
Byf when discussing an alternate timeline Cayde: Look I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m saying I just can’t prove it. For all I know you are correct.
Honestly the only ways I could see this theory of an exo memory sphere being how we got Cayde back are if Cayde found the one with his scan and decided to give it an update or if Cayde secretly got or built an empty one to load his current self in. I can see two ways either could happen. First if Cayde did it manually with help from someone extremely trusted for parts that required a second person, and second if Cayde used vex technology to transfer memories. If he did either I feel like the most likely time would have been when the tower was lost since the loss of the light meant no reviving. The only explanation regarding the light I can see is if when they did pull his memories from a sphere to remake him would be if they used what was left of his ghost or the veil to create a connection, or if when going through the portal he became charged with light to the point his body can't take it which could explain damage. I still find it hard to believe though that this is the way we get him back because while we don't know if he returned with all of that light or got it later we have yet to find out what is needed to cross through the portal so we can't know if someone without the powers of light or dark can cross it. Additionally if it is positioned as a central one it could be someone important instead. I honestly have an easier time seeing it be a copy of Clovis which is being activated to fill an exo body due to the events of the season of the seraph than it being a copy of Cayde.
I’ve theorized the setting we see from the trailer is wherever or whenever is inside the Traveler. The Cayde we see is one that has the accumulated knowledge of every death he’s lived and his past life before becoming a Guardian. He’s become one with the Light, able to use his powers of the Light (and Dark), without need of a Ghost. Sensing the threat of the Witness encroaching into its domain, the Gardner awakens Cayde as the first of long dead Guardians that had died their final deaths. As a type of afterlife for Guardians, we may see past legends like Fellwinter, Liu Feng, the Sunbreakers, past Hunter Vanguards, etc. While Cayde may act as our reluctant guide (reluctant, because he probably wouldn’t like that type of responsibility). The only caveat to all these dead Guardians reawakening here, is that they are one with the Light. They cannot leave, and we can’t take them with us back to the physical plane of Sol. The Gardner may have promised them a peaceful afterlife in its domain, after the threat of the Witness is repelled and/or killed. That’s my theory anyway.
After reading this weeks lore entry from the weekly quest regarding what was done with Clovis’s big exo, I wonder if we take that knowledge to rebuild a super version of Cayde. Also, perhaps the reason that big Europa ball looks different is that someone had been uploading new data to it. Like a certain Bray girl?
Maybe the Cayde we see is from the timeline the Exo Bray came from? Or maybe it’s just a memory/dream Ikora is having. That doesn’t look like water in her cup. Maybe vex milk or pure liquid light?
It's got to be the Acashic field 'memory' version of Cayde 06 built from Ikora's memories and the 'memory of the universe'.
That whole load of crazy with timelines is most likely correct.
Joxer enters the portal and sees himself before being risen, it's clear that versions of people from all points in time are present inside the portal, including our Cayde before his death.

Heres whats gonna happen maybe: the orb will be a little bit of a re dherring but will also simultaneously be used to explain how ghosts and guardians work, and by extension provide an explanation of how cayde CAN return if there was a ghost to ressurect using the copy.

We don’t directly know. He cut a ship, guardian, and ghost into ribbons with a flick of his wrist though.
I am very appreciative of this humbling discussion about the likelihood of Cayde coming back in a predictable way... But... I really do enjoy kinda creating a very weak, but fun to speculate about idea of how they will bring back characters, or enact certain story beats. My current running theory is that Rasputin will be resurrected as a Guardian, I know its unlikely, but it's fun to think about. And it's also not entirely impossible... The Hive were just about to use necromancy and a ghost to bring back Oryx, anything is possible. I think there's some merit in the idea that Cayde could come back through being reprinted onto an Exo frame, we then find a way to get that frame into the Traveler's new portal and somehow we end up with Cayde-7... The Traveler has done some wack stuff in the past, and with it's "pale heart" somehow being connected to memory and they are on the other side of that portal... Maybe the Traveler lets them in? Invites them in some way after the Witness gets what its after? A VERY miniscule possibility... But not completely out of the question for me. It'd be like The Traveler takes a moment to recognize one of it's most beloved warriors brought back and cant help but bring them back. Weapon remade, memory restored. What if they're stuck in a point where time doesn't pass and Ikora literally sits there for eons explaining to him what he's missed? AAAAH fuck this game.
Guess we will have a mission to combine a Cayde memory and inject his ghost memories too when we find it to update some memories.

I saw someone else make a video on it. And I gotta say this again...
I'm a new player. I got really into Destiny and its lore a few months ago. Just before the Season of the deep. I was unlocking Stasis during the season of the deviant because "Cool ice power". During that time I had to go past here. The ball had already gotten its glowy holes. So this happened atleast somewhere within Season of the Deviant. Someone said the reason for it being different there is because the model was reused as a cabal core during season of the deviant which changed the original model.
i could see a season of resurrection or soemthing where we do bring back Cayde-7 or whatever, and then use darksight to restore his memories over the course of the season weekly missions
What I think is going to happen is the Veil is essentially a Darkness form of the Traveler, thus how they made Neomuna and their own golden age there. Whilst the traveler terraforms the veil focuses on memory. The witness needed both for his plan of the Final Shape thus why Savathun hid the Veil on Neptune. With both of them the Witness can essentially rewrite time on a fundamental level (thus why the vex can time travel and existed after the final shape in their original timeline) and will seek to end the fight before it can even begin creating the perfect ideal of The Final Shape like it envisions. What we’re seeing in the teaser I believe is the other side of that portal, and it’s less of a portal but more of a wormhole sending us outside the realm of space and time and instead into this “other” place. Thus a character like Cayde is there but he’s not alive per se he’s basically a time remnant. So in an inverse on the Moon and it’s nightmare’s this place will be shaped by important events in our guardian and the Vanguard’s history but they won’t be the real versions of them, just memory and time remnants taking shape. So we might see things like Oryx in there and Cayde maybe even Gaul again as we finally make our way to the Witness and protect all space time, protect our Destiny. That’s my theory surrounding all this. It would explain the Season of the Deep Asha lines that seem to be implying that The Traveler and The Veil are two sides of the same coin and that the witness is seeking to escape time to erase us and instead make the final shape. Nothing will ever exist and nothing will ever die, that fits with depictions of the Final Shape so far.
Again all just my theory, I haven’t seen any leaks past the original for season of the deep and that just had to do with Titan and the weapons so if I mention anything that’s consistent with a leak, purely coincidence. But that’s why I think Cayde has Ace but it’s the broken one from the end of Forsaken and he’s all glowing. He’s not physically there, just a memory
It could be both. That orb could be used to retrieve Cayde-1. But the pass through of the portal restores his memory from all his reboots.
Perhaps also explaining why Ikora is there. Bc she agreed to do this mission (maybe bc we figure out what it actually does).
Could also lend to the original Traveler concept with the woman. Her blessing Cayde with the light bc Ghosts memories are stored in the Traveler.
