The nuka cola is probably the closest yet but still far from the actual recipe I'd imagine, it's actually the essence of 17 fruits not 7 and a major one being passion fruit as during the Great Passion Fruit Famine of 2044 "people actually noticed the taste difference when the flavor was changed". Other than that, definitely closer than the official cookbook recipe.
To add to this, pomegranate is not in the default nuka cola recipe, but we can start to theorise what probably is. -Lemon -Lime -Orange -Passion fruit This is official we know this. -Kola nut? If we include the kola nut we're up to 5 already, what about the other 12? Well if we take some notes from Dr Pepper we're ending up with -Cherry -Vanilla -Blackberry -Apricot (Substituted with peach maybe, part of the same family with similar flavour profiles). -Plum Now we're at 10, 7 left. Using in game knowledge we can deduce that the other unique flavours are probably also part of the recipe just in higher quantities in those variants. -Cranberry -Grape We need 5 more, we can guess it may include pear as Nuka Orange was developed using pear brandy as a base. -Pear 4 more, now we're left with plenty of options out of the top 20 "tastiest" fruits. -Peach? -Mango? -Kiwi? -Strawberry? -Raspberry? -Grapefruit? -Melon? I feel like in the fallout universe, cram is almost certainly an unholy amalgam of genetically modified animals, lab grown tissue, synthetic protein matrix, and mechanically separated chicken, beef, pork, and turkey. Probably all labeled as something like 'natural and artificial non-human protein sources'

FYI, baking powder isn't shelf-stable. The acid and base components react together over time. That's why old boxed mixes of things stop rising when they get old.

Right? My Grandma was a Wilton trained baker and used to do cakes for people, and she'd put the leftover Crisco based frosting in graham crackers for us to have as a treat every so often. I miss those. Might try to make em sometime.
That's not real jello cake though. Jello cake has been around a long time. It's also known as poke cake. It doesn't have real frosting, you're supposed to use cool whip! And jello cake is rarely layered. It's made in a sheet cake style, you poke little holes in the cooled caked and pour the unset jello over the top, then refrigerate overnight until set and cover with cool whip. My fave combo is lemon cake and orange or lime jello.
i live in the midwest, and we actually have an old recipe for a cake that includes jello mix in it. it is the most moist cake I've ever had, and (I think?) has strawberries in it as well. it's worth looking up a recipe for- my mom made it for birthdays when I was a kid.

Original cake mix used powdered eggs and oil, but it didn't sell very well since people didn't think you could get a cake out of it by just adding water. So they removed the powdered eggs and oil and added directions on the box and they sold great because people now felt like they were baking.

If anybody is curious, they made a lot of dishes out of Uranium back in the day. Those vibrant orange glazed plates are made with uranium oxide (which is orange). They're pretty safe, as long as they aren't broken.

The omission of passionfruit flavor in the Nuka Cola is giving me flashbacks to the great Passion Fruit Famine of 2044. Oh the humanity. Also it's 17 fruit essences, according to the Independent Fallout Wiki and Nuke Cola Historian Sierra Petrovita. (This was great though)
Frosting is easier when the surface is dusted with powdered sugar. Just a touch. If there's too much, the powdered sugar itself will prevent the frosting from adhering.

Yo babish. I carbonate beverages for mass production and have just a small tip: get the beverage as cold as you possible can before carbing. It ibcreases the amount if carb the bev can hold, and reduces foaming by making the carbonic acid less likely to break down back into co2 and water.
I’ve vouched earlier for this, but the Sweet Bread a’la Gusteau would be a really interesting make for the show. It’s got some really… weird ingredients and allows you to explore with the ambiguity of the improved recipe
At no point was I not a little concerned about what you were doing. 10/10 perfectly captured the essence of fallout as much as you could without directly poisoning yourself. Love this video!
If you want to try the creme de la creme of post apocalyptic cuisine, you have to try the deathclaw omelette. Now in the lore, deathclaws are mutated chameleons and that's not an option, but I figure an EGG is an egg so to get the portion size right you'd need Ostrich egg (which you CAN get in new york.) Lakelurks are mutated snapping turtles. Apparently turtle meat tastes like a mix of pork and chicken, maybe with some fish sauce thrown in. Then there is crunchy mutfruit which is supposed to be mutated crabapple. Crabapple is supposed to taste tart like a lemon. So all you need are instant mac and cheese. I'm confident you can combine these into something edible.
The very concept of a "Jell-O Cake" is the most 1950s dessert I've ever heard, and that makes it perfect for Fallout.

I've made Jello cake by baking a cake, poking holes in it, and pouring Jello over it. I thought that's what this was going to be, but it wasn't.

Yo babish. I carbonate beverages for mass production and have just a small tip: get the beverage as cold as you possible can before carbing. It ibcreases the amount if carb the bev can hold, and reduces foaming by making the carbonic acid less likely to break down back into co2 and water.
I’ve vouched earlier for this, but the Sweet Bread a’la Gusteau would be a really interesting make for the show. It’s got some really… weird ingredients and allows you to explore with the ambiguity of the improved recipe

If you want to try the creme de la creme of post apocalyptic cuisine, you have to try the deathclaw omelette.
Now in the lore, deathclaws are mutated chameleons and that's not an option, but I figure an EGG is an egg so to get the portion size right you'd need Ostrich egg (which you CAN get in new york.)
Lakelurks are mutated snapping turtles. Apparently turtle meat tastes like a mix of pork and chicken, maybe with some fish sauce thrown in.
Then there is crunchy mutfruit which is supposed to be mutated crabapple. Crabapple is supposed to taste tart like a lemon.
So all you need are instant mac and cheese. I'm confident you can combine these into something edible.
