I have just discovered this channel and I am impressed with how much information was conveyed in a short video like this. Under 20 minutes videos full of useful information are just perfect for my short attention span and this is very informative too! Straight to the point, not at all cumbersome and good advice that can be followed.
I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed my video! I know a lot of people don't have time for a 20-30 minute tutorial so I try to trim it down as much as possible without impacting the information.
It looks good but takes quite a long time, I just sand a bit to roughen the plastic, rhinox hide base, typhus corrosion anywhere water would gather or there is a change of metal type and drybrush ryza rust when dry. Chipped paint and nuln oil to taste. You get the texture as well and it is quick.
I just tried this out on a plague burst crawler, holy shit is it ever a great technique. It was SO COOl to not be stuck with my reliance on chipping medium and the like, thanks!
I know that this video isnt the newest, but ive still got to thank you! i will be using this method to paint an ork battlesuit thingy as well as some steampunk buildings.
I'm usually pretty impressed with my own way of doing rust, but this looks awesome, and it's a new way for me to experiment with .. thanks!! - great video :D
Great video choice!!!! Out of curiosity, have you ever considered doing a Mechanicum tutorial on something like a Thallax or Castellax? Maybe in the colors of a heresy era forge like Xana 2 (Scoria's planet) or Cyclotrathe? There is almost nothing out there showing Mechanicum stuff being painted, yet so many beautiful Mechanicum minis out there, I'd love to see your take.
Ok so here goes. This is how each of my components were when I painted them - Both Side panels of the cab were separate - The main chassis and engine, and driver seat was a single piece - The front suspension and grill was another - All four crew members were fully assembled - The console was a single piece. - The rivet gun and turret ring were seperate pieces - All the tyres and exhausts were also separate.
Thank you for this tutorial, I'll use that for some barrels! I really like the color scheme. The only thing I would add is some texture to the surface so it not only has the rusty look, butalso the rusty surface :)
Bit late to the party. Great tutorial! Instructions are clear and the result is awesome! One question though: is there a way to make the rust a bit rougher and flakier? Im thinking about painting a bunch of necrons like this, with the idea that they underwent millions of years of rusting.
Looks great! Thanks for this. Looks very easy as well. Also, any chance to see you paint plasma coils on a plasma gun or cannon? I can't seem to get the finish I'm looking for. Thanks!
Think I'll try this on my knight. Do you have any advice for having some panels that look like they still have some paint on that had been chipped away or weathered?
How exactly did you paint the orks and the other various parts to the vehicle i.e. Wheels, exhaust pipes, etc? Do you have a list of exactly what type of paints you used for this project (colors/name)?
That was awesome and the finished product is just inspired, great to see, really embodies the post apocalyptic world thing going on. I have some old bear traps I am doing for Gloomhaven, Broken Token has some 3d pieces for it. I am finding that my games workshop inks leave a lot of gloss, and no I'm not using the gloss versions, although they did come with the ultimate paint set (189 paints), do I need to water them down more, or is that just how it is? I've been trying an army painter anti-shine varnish, but to little effect. Maybe the Army Painter Inks will have better results, anyone else have experiences like this?
@PeteTheWargamer Tips on the Troll Slayer spraying step? I’m having a great deal of trouble with this. I don’t have any old brushes (started painting less than a month ago), and a dry brush doesn’t seem to do the trick! Any tips for a newbie? :)
This is the most awesome rust effect I have ever seen! One question: after using the pencil, will the graphite stay in place, or do I need to use some warnish over it?
Check out rat rods. I’m a mechanic and there’s a want for rust. Basically take a rust bucket, reinforce the body, patch any major holes and drop a giant engine into it.
I just started a Death Guard army this month and before painting them was debating on doing them in a rusted metal theme, do you think this would look good for standard Plague Marines and the army or would the color not work well with the other various colors of the tentacles, teeth and capes?
Definitely! For the other details you need to decide if you want something which really stands out or something that's more subtle. If you want things to pop, you would choose colours that contrast against the orange rust. Blues, purple and greens would work well. If however you want something a little more subdued, the tentacles could be a pale flesh colour and the fabric and leather could be darker colours such as brown or black.
@@PeteTheWargamer Thank you for actually replying man, I genuinely appreciate it! I was just worried that the color clash would be too...exaggerated, you know? I figured a purple/bruised color for the capes (sort of like how they come pictured on the box) with maybe a dark green for the tentacles. They are Death Guard after all, I would feel remiss if I didn't include some nurgly green goodness to them. I feel like with this kind of scheme (which I'm definitely saving and going to refer back too multiple times, so thank you for that as well) it'll really be unique, which is what I wanted out of my Death Guard anyway. Cheers bud!
Apologies for the nasally voice over with this one! I was unable to avoid Nurgles corruption this time. Hope you all enjoy the tutorial!
I tell you what, folks in 2020 can spot a nasally voice instantly :p

Great tutorial . Going to use this for my first gaslands car mods

it is the ultimate rust brush painting tut. hands down. Subbed!

I have been searching for a way to get this rust method for a long time now. Thank you so much.
Fantastic tutorial and a great alternative in times of Dirty Down (which, obviously, was not existing on the market when you did this video ;-))
Great tutorial, gonna use this for my House Mykorphas Chaos Knights (a house mentioned in the codex section on despoilers)
How is this so fast yet so good? Amazing work!
This tutorial makes it look so much better than Typhus Corrosion > Ryza Rust > Stormhost Silver. Can't wait to do this with all my Speed Freeks.
Tight and to the point. Excellent tutorial!
You mad lad, this is the answer I’ve been seeking. Good on ya and thank you for making such a lovely tutorial, curse or no curse. 🤘

Saw yours on the WH community page; lovely work
I've seen your buggy on warhammer community ! Congratulations !
I just tried this out on a plague burst crawler, holy shit is it ever a great technique. It was SO COOl to not be stuck with my reliance on chipping medium and the like, thanks!
Been looking for a way to do my onager dunecrawler... Pete has the answer !
Fantastic results! I don’t have all of these colors but I’ll try some blends out😊
Exactly what I needed! But for less detailed vehicles. I'll try and apply colors other than The fang to see what happens. Thanks!
This is so good, I was looking for exactly this! Traitor guard here I come!
Really great tutorial! Gonna try it out on my Wasteland Warfare raider power armor later today!
I've liked and subscribed!
Like ,,Mad Max" in the Warhammer world. Well done...🖒
That's exactly what I was aiming for ;)

Loved this tutorial - thx mate!
Interesting technique...effective, realistic and superb!
I'm honestly astonished I have all these paints and never thought to use them for rust.
It’s funny how I’ve never played war hammer but instead im using this tutorial for digital art
This is just what I was looking for! Thanks Pete! :)
Great tips! Would have liked to have seen more of your sub-assemblies for this kit though. All the wild details look intimidating

That's a great idea!
Can we get a tutorial on the warnoys scheme? Curious how youve done the white face paints
10/10 mate. I am painting some rusty crates- inspired by fallout 3's Megaton!
incredible detail, daaaamn
Really nice, will use on my 3d printed diorama (R2D2) :D
Naild it keep it up and can you make a vid about how you painted the ork skin?
Necronunda terrain sorted now thank you :)

Terrific tutorial man!
Awesome work. I'll find this very helpful when I attempt a WW2 Bolt Action or Flames of War tank wreck. Many thanks
Great idea!
Awesome tutorial. Thanks! Looking forward to more such videos!
Very nice with the shorter focused video. 👍
Glad you liked it!
That's a badass dune buggy! I think in left my minitures to orange. Any ideas on how to darken them?
Would love to see the build of that car :D
Gunna use this on my death gaurd melee weapons thx.
Very nice! I'd be very happy to see more of these how to videos :D
Great vid & good length :0

Exactly what I want!!
I’m going to be painting a plagueburst crawler I was wondering will should I use death guard green in place of the fang as that’s my base colour?
Think I'll try this on my knight. Do you have any advice for having some panels that look like they still have some paint on that had been chipped away or weathered?
That looks really great!
This is great tutorial. Thnx for make this.
What brand of paint? I use AK paints. I really like your video.
Just what I needed. Thank u

hi, where do you buy the warhammer model car at? good video bythe way. Thanks.
I love this wargamer bravo 🔥
I think it's decided. My next army will be a imperial knights one. Fully rusted, with moss on the armor. House Miyazaki !

Awesome video, bro
Gonna use this for my death guards

Need this for gundam
Going to try thi technique on some cars for a stalker roleplay
Awesome 🤘
The pencil tip is very original, love it
The rust is very good, my only concern is to having a functional car rusted in that way, kinda useless :D
When it comes to Orks, the basic laws of physics and material sciences don't usually apply :P
Check out rat rods. I’m a mechanic and there’s a want for rust. Basically take a rust bucket, reinforce the body, patch any major holes and drop a giant engine into it.
Definitely using this on my orcs
