    I hated it in high school when teachers forced you to take notes (aside from history maybe)
    I like to summarize at the end of the chapter and skim through the book again or equivalent resource and fill in any holes in knowledge I might. It's "notes" that you'll actually use since it serves as a reference to those resources if you need a refresher.

    hey man, im a 10th grade student from india (where the most pressure is put on academics above anything else). ive followed the 1st and 3rd principles since the 8th grade, i.e. i dont take notes and i practice the right amount. somethings i struggle with are:
    1. Procrastination: the second principle is lost on me. i cannot for the life of me get something done as soon as possible. my homework, studies, are pushed to the back of the schedule and i fail to get them done. i get good enough marks to be an above average student but im always left feeling i could do better.
    2. Handwriting: in india, a majority of the questions asked in a particular exam are question and answers. you get 10 mcq's in the beginning, and the rest is all question/answers. this means you have to write a semi-small essay 20-30 times over pretty quickly. my handwriting has sucked my entire life. everyone has told me its garbage but nobody has yet told me how to improve it. i lose a considerable amount of marks for the presentation on my answer sheet. it feels a bit hopeless and everybody keeps pressuring me to write better.

    Just like you, I've always thought it was a rather paradoxical situation by how taking notes is actually more of a lazier approach to understanding or remembering things. It demands less attention and doesn't really allow you to have an opportunity to effectively revise the notes you had taken down during class and still record it all again in your official notebook and again- trying to learn everything (based on how my friends do it). Rather than notes I write down questions to test myself on each topic, on the bonus side- its less time consuming. For definitions i just use flashcards (only the smaller ones because those are harder to remember)

      I'd actually disagree. For my case, I'm taking Mathematics as my major and while in school, i found taking notes and not doing enough problems, while focusing purely on understanding the steps, useless. I'd prefer just practicing, any mathematics teacher will tell you that doing problems is the only way to get faster and more efficient.
      Sure, this may be flawed for other subjects like English or chemistry which you have to memorize the quote from a book or specific facts that will be asked. However, I do believe that you can reduce your note taking by 90% and really only jot down thing that are impossible to remember at once glance. Only the essential information will then enter your brain.

    I agree with the most of the video, but you are harsh on the note-taking method, Yes, at some times, you'll have to listen to your teacher instead of noting down everything, but sometimes, when teacher speaks Of important information, it's very Good idea to note it down, because Most of the time, that information might be the key-point in some questions, you know what i do? I listen to teacher, note down necessary information, then when im home, I check the book and note down all the facts and the information i need, also, noting down something just improves your memory on it, so noting all these down helps me check on them more easily and helps me rememember.

      But noting information down makes you more likely to forget it, so unless it's something you're certain you'll forget (like some complex math fomulas), you shouldn't write it down

    Marcos what to do if I am not allowed to not take notes

    • @MarcosHernanz
      @MarcosHernanz  17 дней назад

      Two options:
      1. Talk to the teacher and try to convince him that you don't take notes because it's better for you
      2. If the first one doesn't work, just take notes and pray to get a better teacher next year

    • @geoart_
      @geoart_ 17 дней назад

      @MarcosHernanz No no, you don't understand. It isn't really based off of what the teacher wants, the system here in Latvia just expects notes from you and sometimes you get graded for taking notes. If you didn't take notes you might actually get an NV (which is lower than 1 and if not fixed within 2 weeks will make you do summer school automatically) Really, here you can't really go through school without notes and every subject has its own notes ofcourse. The only classes that don't need notes is sport (P.E.), arts and computer science / programming, where it isn't required to take notes.

    • @MarcosHernanz
      @MarcosHernanz  Месяц назад +1

      Eating the frog first is going to do the trick for you! If you do the hardest task first thing in the morning, you will not procratinate later, since the rest feels easy compared with the hardest task. So for example, if you really hate math, try doing some math problems as soon as you wake up.

    Work for me? This year is my first year of high school and i’d love to try this as a challenge for myself

      You might want to try to study early in the morning for a couple of weeks, and then determine what's best for you. Personally, I would rather study in the morning because I have more energy and my brain is fresh.

    • @MarcosHernanz

      You will forget some things either way, but if you focus on grasping the concepts instead of memorizing it will stick for longer
