ScreenRant makes lots of BS. Saying Shadow should stay bad to be Sonic's Loki to drag his redemption arc is incredibly insulting. He's not Loki. So ironic to say; they shouldn't go differently and keep the same tone compare to arcs. That's just lazy and stale as Marvel's current state for doing the same thing per-picture. They're gonna follow Shadow's character as SA2/Shadow 05 closely. Director and writers are leaning this film darker and serious because of Shadow. There won't be any comedic stuff with him as Knuckles due to his serious-emotionally-vengeful arc, he's a big deal with a big fanbase they cannot screw up. Considering the director, Jeff Fowler, was one of the CGI artists Shadow the Hedgehog 05's cutscenes as he understood the character then. Every film and show cannot be the same tone. It's lazy and refusing to grow as film series with their audience, along with fans who wants this series to do new things rather than the same thing. But it won't mean everyone else is going to be serious. Sonic, Robotnik, Knuckles, previous-human cast returning will have some charm, but not overly goofy to tonal shift out of focus.
Actually SA2 has a lot of goofy moments, most of them involve Knuckles. No one deny him to be as gofy as usual. As for Shadow, there are two things I hope: him being melancholy rather than grumpy (I don't remember him being grumpy in his early games) and, that's more visive, Shadow being left handed like in his own videogame in 2005 and Sonic '06. It shows not necessarily with guns, also his little gestures (like snapping fingers with his left hand, doing stuffs that require precision left handed etc) show what truly his dominant hand is.
I'm not worried at all. I'm too damn excited for this movie to care! I'll have you know, when the very first trailer for the first Sonic movie dropped, I was like the only person on planet earth not bothered by the design. I was so happy to FINALLY be getting a Sonic Movie that his original design was an afterthought for me. Ultimately I am glad they redesigned him to make the movie a success, but I'm telling you right now had they kept that original design I STILL would've went to see the movie in theaters! Although I probably would've been the only sold seat at my movie theater LOL xD

Secondly, Shadow is going to be an actual villain unlike Knuckles he was a misguided hero the entire movie. Shadow wants to destroy the world presumably. And aims to lead to something catastrophic. It’s on a scale that Shadow may end up being a focus not just for Sonic but GUN as well. In movie 2, only Sonic really fights Knuckles then Team Sonic fights Robotnik. In movie 2, it’s likely going to be everyone vs Shadow. Just mainly Sonic. Some are even speculating that the movie will have Sonic and Eggman being forced to work together to stop him. And most likely if Shadow does turn good, he will also likely turn Super with Sonic to save the whole planet. So it’s very different. Especially since his backstory and existence is intertwined with the history of their world and Sonic’s.

Regarding with whether the movie will have the same tone as the first two movies, I doubt it. If the leaked storyboards are right, I think it will have more of a serious tone, especially since POSSIBLE SPOILER The movie starts with a funeral.

You have to realise this is the movie’s take on shadow ,this isn’t the same games shadow ,similar to sonic and knuckles who aren’t the same as their games counterpart but their own take on the characters ,so whatever their take is going is probably something on the middle of adventure 2 and 05 which is fine ,if you don’t like it it’s alright

I think the third movie repeating the previous movie's story is something that likely won't happen, and that these people are currently overreacting. They have to remember that this is Sonic 3 the movie (2024) not Sonic Adventure 2 the movie. Paramount is just adapting certain elements from that popular 2001 game into it, it was never said that Sonic 3 will be a 1-1 full adaption of that game, so some parts will be similar, some will be different, and the rest can be totally new movie exclusive stuff. I very much hope that you're right that they won't have Shadow be using guns in Sonic 3! I don't want him to continue to be the annoying edgeloard that he has been mistaken to be for too many years, his characterization was better in SA2, Heroes, and was peak in 06, so please may he be behaving more like he was in any of those games instead of like the gun shooting and swearing character that he was in his own game! I think that it would be a good idea for an anti-gun violence message to be in Sonic 3 with Shadow hating guns in that movie because one of them was used by a G.U.N. military agent to kill Maria, and that he uses his uniquely interesting Chaos abilities: Chaos Spears, Chaos Blast, and Chaos control, in battle scenes instead of bullet shooting.
It’s shadow ,his design screams edginess,and even in those games he was an edgelord as part of his character while the rest was “he’s just an edgelord” and so you people got it mixed up and started believing that he was never an edgelord even tho he was created and designed and meant to be edgy to follow the 2000s trend of darkness and blah blah ,shadows is edgy ,many Batman iterations is edgy ,and this is not bad ,it all comes to if they make it too edgy and make it the whole thing or leave it as just a part of his character,take another look at shadow’s design and tell me what his character is supposed to be based only on the design
What I meant was that they started making him be too edgy and self-obsessed in the 2010s and made it be that he also can't have any friends resulting in the fact that because of that he couldn't even be part of Team Dark anymore. The people at Sega decided to only look at his own too edgy spin-off game for inspiration of what he should be like, threw away the better characterization that he had gotten in those other 3 games, and totally ruined his less edgy better personality, (being a character who would try to do what Maria had wished for him to do) because of that.
Hopefully Paramount adds at least 1 female character amy or rouge otherwise it will be another boys club movie like the second one and they'll get done for sexist boycotting.
