- How to Set Up VDM Brushes in Blender 3D
Blender 3.5 introduced VDM Brushes as a new feature in Blender. VDM brushes are a huge improvement to sculpting in Blender. This tutorial shows you how to setup a VDM brush manually. We also cover how to import sets of brushes from another Blender file.
If you're looking for how to setup VDM brushes in Blender or how to import VDM brushes, this is for you. I also cover a little bit about what VDM brushes are and how they work in Blender. I highly recommend checking out my list of best VDM brushes available for Blender. Stay creative!

Your tutorials are super clear and direct, and you have a real knack for it. Thank you!
Thats a great explanation, transparent, no rush and clear, lovely! Big thanks!
Thank you! Very nice, glad it was useful for you!!
Awesome tutorial Brandon!
Thank you for covering this.
I didn't even know Blender 3.5 had this feature. Now there's even more reason for me to download the latest version!
Thanks again!
I hope you have a great week! 😃
Thank you again! Have a great week too!
Excellent way of explaining, thank you
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I bought a few of the VDM brushes on artstation but they didn't come with a blender file, only the texture files themselves. Was able to get it going with your tutorial.
I actually just checked your favorite VDM brushes and the one i had issues with was listed, was the Alien one.
Well I’m glad you were able to get it to work and glad I could help. I got those brushes on blender market and they came with a blend file. They’re pretty cool.
@@Brandon-3D Really? I got mine from artstation as they are doing a sale right now and the few i got only had the texture files themselves, not a blender file.
I'm just starting out with blender so i wanted to grab some brushes and reference images since everything was on sale
Maybe i'll shoot him a message to see if he'd be willing to send the blender file my way just to make things a bit eaiser
Useful. Thanks
awesome, thx
Glad to help! Thank you!
thanks for the video
Great explanation, thank u so much for the video!
Thank you! Glad it was useful!
Thank you for beautiful explanation
Thank you Brandon. I've added an ear to my human head sculpt. Wow! ...that sure didn't take much time! But it is not quite in the position that i want. Can I move it once i have the size ear that i want...or do i just need to delete it and recreate it more in the area it is needed? Oh, also, can these ears and noses etc. created through the VDM method, be separate objects...independent of the head they are being placed upon? Thanks again.
Thank you. Are there any VDM mouth brushes? I didn't see much
thanks
Hello, you only mentioned import .blender file. How about other file formats: fbx, obj, zbp,... (which is the majority of VDM Brushes). Do you know how I can use these files ?
this is awesome! can you append multiple packs into one project? or only one pack per new project
Yes you can append as many as you want into a project. I only know how to do them one at a time though.
@@Brandon-3D Thank you fo responding! thats awesome I'm about to try this right now!
thank you very much
Thanks, sound great. But when I import a brush I try to draw on my model, but nothing shows up no matter the size, what could be wrong?
Did you ever figure it out
Hello Good day I have a mesh that is 490k Vert, 981k Tri.But whenever ı try to use VDM brushes to add detail(Especially stuff like Horns/Teeth That Protrude etc the brush looks very blocky and low res despite fact the area ım using it on is quite dense. What might be the problem?
does anyone know why the vector displacement box doesn't appear for me I've followed the video multiple times and it just isn't there?
I want to make a complex vdm brush but there is just not enough mesh. We can't use the dyutopo/remesh. For extra mesh. I can't use booleon to add some primitives with out breaking the multiresolution modify. How can I make a digital vdm brush with out thoese tools.
I have VDM ZBrush Brushes would they also work in blender? Since they are not .exr but .zbp
Is this free for commercial use? 😅
Yes the ones linked to are. There may be others which are not.
@BrandonsDrawings Yeah, I just used the link you have posted here! Tried it out and really liked how my guy came out! Didn't want to get attached to him if it wasn't usable in that aspect eventually!
i love you!
not working, I setup as in video but im getting a weird looking mountain peak thing instead of 'ear'. What might be wrong?
Make sure your sample bias, under brush texture settings, is set to 0
Make sure you have enough vertex (subdivision enough, I recommend at least 4 times)
It just doesn't work. No error and nothing that should be an issue. The VDM brush just doesn't work.
Any free sets out there yet? Im a hobbiest not a professional. I dont make money doing this so I cannot afford paid addons.
Consider a pen name. Brandon isn't a good choice at this time in history.
Or is Brandon my pen name? Lol.
