Two Great Buddhist Books to Read on Christmas
What can you read during Christmas if you are a Buddhist? I have two great suggestions from the respected Buddhist teacher and monk, Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh ("Thay").
He has two classic books that talk about Buddhism and Christianity, and how to apply in our everyday life. They can make a great holiday tradition for you during December when Buddhists celebrate Bodhi Day, and Christians celebrate Christmas. Christmas is also very much a cultural holiday in many Western countries, so Buddhists will often celebrate it as well.
In his first book, Living Buddha Living Christ, Thay takes us into the living embodiment of the Buddha and Jesus, not as historical or religious figures, but those we can emulate in our everyday life. There is even a journal in the back where you can take what you learned from this book into everyday life.

In the second book, Going Home, we explore several short teachings by Thay that he gave at his famous retreat center, Plum Village in France, during Christmas. We have always wondered what would happen if Jesus and Buddha met on the road, and this book can help us understand these two world traditions.

These books do not need to be read only at Christmas, as they are perfect any time of the year. Additionally, they are great for a Buddhist or Christian who wants to understand the other's faith a little more. And for an established member of either faith, it can help you understand a little bit more about your own faith as a result.
