I ran a simulation of the Soler system in universe sandbox for about 100 000 years with Mercury replaced with a second Jupiter. the inner planets orbits ended up weirdly inclined and over all messed up. earth had entered a new permeant colder state with average temperature fluctuating from about 6C to about 10C depending on where the earth was in its now somewhat elliptical orbit with glaciers extending to about 45 degrees of latitude in the northern and southern hemispheres. no doubt there would be some catastrophic implications for life, but the earth remains in one piece and civilization endures.
