Maybe from now on B1M should use the original WTC as a reference for ALL of the modern towers; and for every classic tower still standing (like the Empire State and the Chrysler), use the Singer tower, now (presumably) the 2nd-tallest building to have been demolished.

      I'm from Michigan and it will ALWAYS be known as the Sears Tower. Even though its floor space tapers off substantially as it goes skyward, it's easy to see how it still edged out one of the original WTC towers in floor space...it's the massive base of the building. It's gigantic. Enormous. I hadn't seen it in about a decade and stood at its base with my son and it almost seemed larger than when I first visited it as a child. Jaw dropping massive.

      Same in UK. There's a strange cultural dislike of skyscrapers in Europe in general I find, which I never really understood. I always kind of liked them personally, they look elegant and futuristic if designed and laid out well. Also condensing more floorspace in the city centre means you're less likely to need a sprawling cityscape spread out over seemingly infinite square kilometers like London, which even then has a lot less skyscrapers as compared with it's size than anything in East Asia or North America. Having moved to Canada, I much prefer the design of the cities here, though they do have their own deficiencies, such as not being walkable enough for instance.

      @Forlfir 3 года назад

      @@decus9544 nah skyscrapers would ruin most European cities, and nowadays there's not much demand for large areas downtown.

    • @decus9544
      @decus9544 3 года назад +2

      @@Forlfir More land used for office and commercial space means less for residential space, driving up residential property value. In addition, high rise doesn't need to just be in the centre, one thing cities like London do right is having kind of micro hubs interspersed around, which increases walkability and reduces commuting times. If these micro hubs and the city centre were denser, it would give the residential areas more areas to expand into rather than into the greenbelt. This would also allow there to be more green spaces and make cities nicer to live in, far from ruining them. You obviously have a different opinion though, so in your view, why would the proliferation of skyscrapers ruin European cities?

      4Ke Scythe, your rush to try to trash Americans showed your own ignorance. For starters, the narrator sounds a lot more like he’s British than American. Also, if you had paid attention to the “football pitch” graphic that was used, you’d see that the field was what an American would have called a soccer field, not a football field. Bash us as often as you like. There’s certainly many reasons to do so. It makes you look pretty pathetic, though, when you can’t even do it correctly.
