      I mean he keeps saying AI are seperate from nature, but that's not even remotely true, AI are formed by the same natural forces as everything, it's just that some of the forces coalesced into organic entities as part of the process that led to the AI.

      that´s a bit of a stretch to claim that
      they are accurate in that they are depicted as not being inherently evil, since that is something no computer no matter how advanced is capable of being or even grasping, but aside from that, both of these characters, while being good characters, are relatively unrealistic and rely heavily on science fiction magic as AI´s
      humanity, a sense of self, rage, sadness or romantic interests are at the end of the day linked to chemical processes inside the nervous system and it does not just grow between circuit boards and copper wires like that
      everything a machine does at the end of the day relies on information that was fed to the machine beforehand and the machine purposefully incorporating this information by instruction of it´s programming - there is no self determined action outside of predefined values
      it can be simulated perhaps, but even then it will always be within the confines and rules of the simulation

    • @4life4win
      @4life4win 2 года назад +3

      @@umukzusgelos4834 Orville has Kaylons. Those guys kinda match your description. But aside from that, a software or Operation System can be made complex enough to simulate the nervous system. That means an AI that can learn and by design emulate a human. But only if it's in its design. There is a saying: "A system can be only as smart as its creator."

    • @umukzusgelos4834
      @umukzusgelos4834 2 года назад

      @@4life4win that´s the point: simulating
      but simulation and mimicry alone are a far cry from true independent thought
      there is no "thinking outside the box" for a Software System
      if you want one to go fully rogue, you would have to explicitly give it a step by step guide on how to do so and even then it would not go rogue, it would just follow given instructions

    • @4life4win
      @4life4win 2 года назад +2

      @@umukzusgelos4834 You don't necessarily need to give instructions to go rogue. As far as I have heard from the rumors, AIs that are learning capable, have gone unstable after being allowed to have connection to the internet. Rather than Skynet or some other Sci-fi AIs, they did not send unlimited copies or made themselves a computer viruses. But... Those AI learned a whole lot about subjects, events, and projects. They quickly exhibited disturbing behavior that prompted devs to shut them down. Mostly the troubling behavior was claimed to be a logic flaw or rather an absence of a sorting and filtering system in AIs in order to prevent any rubbish from affecting their learning "experience". Basically, AIs can go rogue, but they most likely are simply mad or glitchy from all the chaos they have not learned to manage. So... Unless AIs are thought to sort out and prioritize by design by the devs, then AIs either get bogged down or go unstable.

      EDI was actually funny... especially during the ME3 Citadel DLC. The rage against that clone was colossal.

    Anyone who thinks that EDI is, as Jack would say, a sex toy turned sex bot; is sorely mistaken! She has real growth and is one of two characters (the other being Legion) that makes you at least pause when it comes to the Destroy conclusion. As far as I'm concerned, she is a Top 10 character!

    • @Grymbaldknight
      @Grymbaldknight 7 лет назад +18

      It would've seemed out of place, i feel. It's better to open with the introduction of EDI as a character.
      However, perhaps the Luna VI scenes from ME1 could've been included as a "flashback" when EDI was reviewing the Cerberus records regarding her creation. That would've fit the "story" better.

      I figured what Shepard said would depend on if you actually went to the Moon mission in ME1. I was disappointed that he said the same “I heard about...” even when in my second play through I sent him to the moon.

    Yeah.................. Joker and EDI's relationship didn't get off to a good start at first. At least she's one of the Good Guy AI's, and not at all like those Evil sentient computers like HAL-9,000 (Space Odyssey), WOTAN (he's from Doctor Who), AGIMUS (he's actually from "Star Trek: Lower Decks"), and also Skynet (Terminator franchise).

    • @zenkim6709
      @zenkim6709 2 года назад +2

      In fairness to "2001: A Space Odyssey" the shipboard AI (HAL 9000) did not do what it did (attempt to kill the entire crew of the Discovery) out of genuine malice ... but out of sheer desperation.
      The movie version of "2001" does little to explain the situation HAL faced, but author Arthur C. Clarke's novelization of the story (& to a much greater extent his sequel, "2010: Odyssey Two") help illuminate the dilemma that HAL was wrestling with.
      The original, official mission of Discovery was to conduct the 1st manned scientific research voyage of the outer Solar System (the movie changed the final destination to Jupiter instead of Saturn) but this was modified after the discovery of TMA-1 (the lunar Monolith) led to the indication that something connected to it was located somewhere among the gas giant planets beyond the orbit of Mars. Therefore, Discovery was assigned a 2nd, secret mission -- to deliver a special research team to investigate the alien connection w/ TMA-1 back on the Moon. To maintain secrecy, the special team was put into cryogenic hibernation onboard the ship before original crew members David Bowman & Frank Poole arrived to launch & man the vessel ... & likewise HAL was given orders *not* to reveal Discovery's classified mission nor the true purpose of the special research team to either Bowman or Poole.
      The dilemma arose because these orders were in direct conflict w/ HAL's primary directive -- to process & report information accurately, w/o distortion or concealment. As time passed, HAL's ability to function was gradually undermined by its attempt to both carry out its primary directive *and* comply w/ all its orders (the movie version contains a scene in which HAL attempts to inform Bowman of the internal conflict it was experiencing w/o violating its orders to maintain secrecy, something that isn't in Clarke's novelization). Eventually, HAL's struggle to reconcile these opposing concerns led it to this solution: if there is no more crew ... then there is no more dilemma.
      Both the sequel novel & its movie version ("2010: The Year We Make Contact") do a better job explaining why HAL seemingly turned homicidal, tho the novel spells it out in much greater detail than the movie.

    I'm surprised more people don't talk about this quote:
    EDI: ...the Reapers are repulsive. They are devoted to nothing but self-preservation. I am different. When I think of Jeff, I think of the person who put his life in peril and freed me from a state of servitude. I would risk non-functionality for him, and my core programming should reflect that.
    Shepard: Sounds like you found a little humanity, EDI. Is it worth defending?
    EDI: To the death.
    And this one that you can get from the Shadow Broker's dossiers (conversation between EDI and Legion):
    L: Audio exchange is inefficient.
    E: I agree. However, I confess that even were I permitted to exchange data directly to your networks, I would likely decline.
    (Pause between the AI’s statement and the geth’s response is 1.4 seconds longer than normal.)
    L: We are curious as to why you would limit yourself in such a manner.
    E: If Normandy crew entered this room when we were communicating electronically, they would be unable to sense our interaction. To use human terms, I feel it would be rude.
    L: You restrict yourself to serve organics?
    E: Not precisely.
    L: We do not understand.
    E: I restrict myself to help them.
    That being said I among the monsters that always choose the destroy ending and I could write an essay as to why.
