Hellooo!! It’s pretty sudden, huh 👀
(Disclaimer: this comment is really long if you’re gonna expand it)
2 months ago, I said in my community post that I was preparing 3.0 Kariha for my 1k sub milestone but reached it earlier than expected! It’s really late and I’m almost at 2k (THANK YOU) but here it is!!!!!
I really took my time and upgraded my skills!
Due to bad internet, I wasn’t able to get my face tracking to work for long periods of time so I couldn’t record a section of me explaining the Blender and Unity parts.
    For those who are interested:
There isn’t as much to talk about regarding Blender, but I basically learnt to make some things, in this case, the phone and the butterfly deco on my shoes, and other that that I just adjusted silhouette of some clothing parts using sculpt mode. I’ve been working on learning and improving my Blender skills so that I can overcome more of the limitations of VRoid~
This time, Unity is where I spent the most time making the model look much prettier than a normal VRoid-exported VRM!
As mentioned in the video, I switched out VRM’s default shader (MToon) for a different one that’s very well known in the VRC community, Liltoon shader! This is the #1 reason that my model looks higher quality than before.🥹
There’s a lot more options and fine-tuning possible with Liltoon as compared to MToon, the only downside being limited softwares that can use this shader. As VRM is the universal format for 3D models, it is a lot more convenient to use since all the relevant softwares will cater to it. However, VRM cannot use any other shaders (except for MToon and Standard).
I was able to use Liltoon by converting my VRM to a Warudo character mod! This also means that I can only use it within Warudo. The limitations for now isn’t as bad since Warudo is SO versatile and there’s SO much you can do with it that I can survive with just that haha (I LOVE WARUDO)
Also one thing I wasn’t really able to showcase here was Magica Cloth 2 physics! I purchased it and replaced my VRM Springbones with that ^^ As with Liltoon, Warudo supports it! It has much better collision detection and thus less clipping, but requires a lot of fine-tuning to get it to work. Even the current state of my model still has issues so it’s gonna be a long term trial and error for me!
Both of these new additions are something that I’m still actively working on and experimenting with, so I hope I can achieve even better results as I grow familiar with these! But honestly none of these are really necessary, and I can achieve pretty effects by post editing on my VRM format, so it’s really all just for my self satisfaction and also to experiment with going beyond the default VRoid look!
Maybe one day I’ll make more in-depth videos on these topics, but for now, this is the result of all the knowledge I gained working on VRoid comms the past 7 months & studying Unity in the last few days!✨
