      It varies wildly by set. But the main Mario display piece (the Mario 64 ? Block for $200/2064 pieces) is a certainly a much better deal. Even the Artemis rocket (which I don't like compared with the Saturn V) is $260 for 3601 pieces. The medieval town square is $230 for 3304 pieces, including a bunch of figures. Even the "Friends Modern Mansion" (which is a frankly amazing dollhouse) is only $200 for 2275 pieces. It isn't just a 'licensed item tax), consider the huge D&D set, $360 for 3745 pieces, a much better deal. one The $300 for the 2500-piece tree just feels way too high.
      Of course, the best deals for big quantities of parts are still things like the "Creative Fantasy Universe" box, $90 for 1800 pieces.

    Wow, so the Deku Tree set really is real. But, 300?! Ouch! That's the same price as a Switch!
    The tree and the Koroks and various characters look great. The Links and Zelda look great. Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Ocarina are awesome.
    I grew up with Sega systems and Playstation, but I got Nintendo systems once I got a job, and went back and played through all the Zelda games up to that point. GameCube was the most recent system then. They're a lot of fun, with the setting, exploration, and puzzles, and you might enjoy them as well, JANG.
    My favorite game is Link to the Past, but I really love Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I liked Ocarina of Time well enough, but I preferred Majora's Mask. If I am somehow able to miraculously get this set, I'd probably build the Breath of the Wild version.
    I would've preferred Hyrule Castle instead of the Deku Tree, but man, that would be be even more expensive, even if it wasn't minifig scale!
    I would love if you review this, JANG. Even without playing the games, your LEGO reviews are the go-to ones for myself and many others. I'd also like to see if this is actually worth $300, and you do a great job at evaluating value.

    The price is in the region of Barad Dur - this is a crazy price. This will be hard to justify, especially because my first thought was - "I need two"

    • @mr_earwig6477
      @mr_earwig6477 Месяц назад +10

      Yeah, its a pretty nutty price for what you get. It's probably the price it is because of the new printed pieces, especially the Master Sword mould. Not sure if the shield is new, but even so its still pricey. Now that I think of it, Nintendo is probably making Lego pay through the nose on licensing to boot.
      At least the figs look good though.

    • @Wyattporter
      @Wyattporter Месяц назад +6

      @@mr_earwig6477shield is new. Price is hardly justifiable. I saw this compared to the Daily Bugle, which had ~1700 more pieces, ~3x as many figures, and was only 50 dollars more. 300 looks ridiculous when you think about that.

    I'm agreeing with some of the other comments here, it looks great and as a huge Zelda fan I've been waiting for them to make something like this, but that price point is very tough to swallow considering a significant part of the whole package will be completely unused by building only one of the two models. I'm on the fence.

    • @rustroomofdoom
      @rustroomofdoom Месяц назад +1

      It's a shame that sales are such an oddity with LEGO. Especially with how corrupt and outrageous the after-market scene is with scalpers. I would wait for a sale as well, except for the fact that I only ever see sales (on the official store, and not often other storefronts) at the end of a sets life, when they're about to retire it and want to get the remaining stock rid of. I've got some sets on discount from random Amazon sales, but that's about it. The only other sales I can think of would be brick and mortar retailers, such as Target, doing flash sales, but that takes going to that specific store frequently enough to check for one.
      *Edit:* just realized that because it's an *"exclusive"* it'll only ever be directly from LEGO. So no Amazon/Target sales for this one 😬

    Would definitely want to see a review from you for your nuanced opinion on price VS “volume of stuff” for this set. $300 seems a little steep for this set, but maybe it’ll make more sense after seeing the set in person and seeing how many pieces are not shared between the two builds. Not having played the games seems like a non issue considering you always seem to do thorough research beforehand with this video being no exception.

    the master sword looks a bit more purple than I'm used to, and the crossguard is slightly oversized.
    the size just seems like a minifig scaling thing to me.
    BOTW zelda wears a rather plain outfit, i don't really see any detail in the print that is missing.
    and while it isn't shown, the master sword and hylian shield are suitable for OOT adult link too

    • @experimentsininsanity4478
      @experimentsininsanity4478 Месяц назад +2

      I think the Master Sword is iridescent as well to simulate it's charged glow, which is why it looks purple. As far as the Zelda mini-fig, I'd want to see how her chest print looks because that's really the only place she has detail in the game.

  • @johnblack3204

    I don't like the price to parts ratio. I'm also disappointed that we can't build both variants.

    • @elipse371
      @elipse371 Месяц назад +2

      Price to piece isn’t exactly everything. Outside of actual the number of parts, you also factor in variables like the amount of larger parts, specially molded and newly produced parts, and licensing.
      And, to say the least, Nintendo isn’t a very cheap company when it comes to licensing and branding.
      Would I like if it were $250~270? Absolutely. But it’s at least semi-reasonable when it comes to checkout.
      Also, while it is unfortunate that you can’t build both, that’s how almost(if not all) 2-in-1 sets work.

    • @DrAhzek
      @DrAhzek Месяц назад +2

      While PtP ratio is a downer (like, wth?), I don't get why people continue to be disappointed with not being able to build more than one version at a time? How do you expect it to work?
      It is either :
      a.) making a set double in price and size (which will make set unappealing to 95% of the people by default).
      b.) making a super basic, dumbed down versions of both (which again, will make it a rather sad excuse of a set).
      You can't have a cake and eat a cake. Most people will build it once and maybe redo it after some time. If someone wants other version, they'll buy the second/third set for that.

    The main detail on the Master Sword that’s changed is the jewel in the pommel - it’s been gold since it was first introduced in Link to the Past. Triple molding such a piece would be an even bigger cost though so I think it’s alright. The price is an iffy one for sure, but the sheer amount of specialty molds and big pieces on top of a licensing cost makes sense - it isn’t great, but it isn’t the worst. I hope it’s laying the ground work for more LoZ sets though- maybe not a full consumer range, but at least down to mid-sized pricing. Actually I do think there’s room to make a 4-in-1 for the Divine Beasts - about the scale of the Harry Potter buildable beasts perhaps.

      ...which, like, yeah I wouldn't complain, would be nice.
      Agree that having more exclusive minifigs would make the price go down better. Compare this to the Daily Bugle which is only $50 more but is a fair bit bigger and has *way* more minifigs.

    • @brycebitetti1402
      @brycebitetti1402 Месяц назад +1

      @experimentsininsanity4478 Yes, but almost all Zelda characters that would make sense for this set would require brand new elements themselves. This set already has several brand new molds, adding in another character to the level of detail they've set would likely just increase the cost even more.

    Def a dream come true, people have been theorizing Zelda LEGO sets for decades but sucks it ends up coming out and it's in the "Adult Nostalgia" section with a huge markup like every other "dream" property LEGO has been doing. That said, I'd love to see the Ocarina of Time version of Hyrule Castle or even Twilight Princess after this just to see what it would look like.

  • @collectorking6204
    @collectorking6204 Месяц назад +1

    The price is inline with licensed Lego products. It's 0,12 euro per part. That's about the same as the Star Wars Canteen that's about 0,12.5 euro per part. The difference is in the minifigure count. However you do get unique parts (for now) like the shield and sword and these are new molds that are quite the cost if they will be used only one time. Also the set has a nice range of parts in it. The reality is that everything is getting more expensive now because of the global situation. It can't be expected of Lego to keep prices low. To be clear I am not defending it.

    Man this is so surreal. 300 dollars is a lot but there's also a LOT here, I'm really tempted to go for it mannnn. Also they amount of custom minifigure stuff they've made for this has to mean there's a full wave coming right? I really hope so. It would be really cool if they made this a whole theme with the gimmick being able to see landmarks in the Zelda world in both their BOTW and OOT states. If I get this I'll definently be going for BOTW not just because I've played BOTW and not OOT, but also because I just prefer the builds too, altho I'm sure so many ppl will be so happy that there's an OOT version

    I really do like the set, the Breath of the Wild version is definitely the more impressive build and is more exciting to look at, but for me the Ocarina of Time version is so nostalgic and iconic that I’d definitely choose to display it as that. But I’m going to have to wait and see if I can find this for drastically on sale because that price is just crazy. $300 could be used to buy so many other things so putting that all into one Lego set would be a huge commitment for me.

    I do really like the set. Just looking at pictures almost made me forget about the ridiculous price. $300 for a 2-in-1 that'll likely have a bevy of unused pieces? Not gonna buy, but I may pick up the parts for the brick-built Hestu.

    If this were a normal year for me, I’d be preordering it right now. [I’ve had some big expenses, so Lego buying is way down.] That looks awesome and has a ton of useful pieces in new colors. Never played (or even seen) the videogames, so I don’t have any preconceptions of what it should look like. Maybe that’s part of _why_ I like it so much?

    This is a beautiful, beautiful build. I’m normally not one to necessarily focus on figures but man, those figures are EXCELLENT. Incredibly beautiful and made with a lot of love and respect.
    It is just an absolute shame about that price. A real, real shame. I hope they can make some other Zelda sets that are much more accessible. Personally i’d love to see a review from Jang

    BotW figs could've used arm printing, but otherwise still great figs. They only show Young Link with an alternate face, I hope the others have it as well.

    There's most likely not going to be space for Minifigs for the canopy of the Ocarina version of the Deku tree because that area was never accessible in the game. There's a whole dungeon inside the tree that you enter through his mouth. Also his face wasn't expressive in OoT. And the reason there's not as much going on around him is because it was just a small clearing. They included the relevant details from the clearing in the space they used. We are comparing an N64 game to a newer gen game so obviously there will be variability in terms of setting details.

    As a Zelda BOTW and TOTK fan, I love this set, especially the minifigures and accessories, and the koroks all over. I like that you can animate the great deku tree.
    I wish the set was cheaper though, should be $250 or $200
    The problem with this set is that if they're testing Lego Zelda sets with this it won't be a good test since less people will buy it since its pretty expensive. Castle has a similar problem
    A Zelda CMF series would be awesome, and a Mario series also
    Its great that most video game sets only have prints, with no stickers

    The Ocarina of Time “version” has link’s house as a side build which is cool. I think the price reflects the fact that you are paying for other parts not being used when you build one version or the other. Regardless, it’s very expensive. I’d love to see a review.

    Looks amazing. Would not have believed that this was going to ever happen until recently. Not sure about the 2 in 1 aspect for such an expensive set though. I guess it is nice that it gives people the choice of their preferred game, but surely it could have been a bit cheaper if it was only one build right?

    I am super excited by this. It looks great. As someone whose been playing Zelda games since my childhood NES, this is a wonderful treat. It's funny, my reaction was the opposite in terms of which version excited me more. As much as I adore Breath of the Wild, Ocarina of Time just holds too big a place in my heart. Now if only they'd make a Hyrule Castle...

    Both Deku Tree models are very accurate, but what I'm wondering is if you can still build child Links house while building the BOTW version of the Deku Tree. At least that way you'd have somewhere to display the OoT Links that makes sense without having to buy two sets. Also since they're including Hestu I hope we're getting at least one golden 1 x 1 with Horizontal Swirl / Twist piece. If you know you know.

    I’d love to get my hands on the figures and the accessories, but I’m less fussed about the full set. I think it was a fantastic choice to have the Deku Tree be a two in one for the different generations of fans, hit two demographics with one set. But the price though…

    Id love to see a review. I definitely am saving up for it. The price hurts (i was hoping $250 to $270 from the leaks) but it does look fairly large with some special molds specific to this set. And no stickers. But this is one of those times I wish Lego didn't have to raise the US prices because of the Euro value. And ill still argue its unfair €300 includes tax but $300 US does not 😂
    Getting off topic. Super excited for this set. It was designed by the guy who got the first Zelda ideas submission, iron knuckles, to 10,000k like a decade ago. Glad he is still able to fulfill that dream 🥲

  • @SkienceGuy

    The price is steep, but I find it somewhat justified by the option to build it two different ways. I know that I probably wouldn’t if I got it, but it would be kind of cool to take it apart one day and create the other version to reengage with the set. I am a huge Lego and Zelda fan, so I am tempted to buy. However, Jang, I would only review the set if you are interested in it personally. I will of course watch your video on it, but there are going to be so many fans of Zelda and Lego reviewing that it is probably not necessary.

    My issue is thats its a 2in1. Since you can’t display both at the same time you only get 1/2 of the value the price is actually offering. I think they should have committed to one or the other for the design to lower the price
