Serious question, Ryan... were you ever trained as an instructor or teacher? Your delivery style is perfect... it's ordered, intuitive, logical and easy to follow. You are easily one of the very best RUclipsr tutors.
No, I never did any instructor training. I just learned through experience from making all of these videos. if you watch my first tutorials, my teaching quality isn't very good. 😄
@@RyanKingArt You're too modest! If I'm ever struggling with something Blender, and you've got a video on the subject, I know my problem will be solved.
Thank you for this tutorial series! With your help, I was able to create a mashup of my family's old home movies for Christmas this year. Keep up the great quality work!
I had no idea Blender could do edit video; it's impressive. As a result I just installed Blender and I'll start feeling my way around. Extremely well done video tutorial; thank you so much.
Not sure if you did mention it, but when the video is placed, the video play length may need to be lengthened on the track, otherwise it will loop before the end of the video. Bottom right corner, where it says En, type in a suitable length for the video so it will play back the full length. Exscuse me if you already mentioned this.
If I were on the blender dev team I would give achievements in the program. Each achievement you could click on and it would give a tutorial on how to do it and as you progress each achievement will presume you've mastered the previous achievement. A good start would be "Render a cube."
Saving this link for later, I’m definitely going to give this series a watch. I’ve been looking into getting back into video editing and possibly learning compositing, and since I switched fully over the Linux, I’ve been feeling the itch. The problem is that I don’t trust Premiere/AE/Nuke to work correctly given that they aren’t supported natively, and aren’t FOSS. So I’m glad someone made a good looking series detailing the Blender video editor, because Blender is competently made software, and I already use it occasionally. I’m not sure how well video compositing is supported on Blender, which is really my biggest hangup on whether I should use it for video or not.
that's so cool that you mentioned that because I literally came to this tutorial to see if it had auto align, because I use that in DaVinci a lot. Thank u good sir
Thanks so very much for this! I used to pay rather a lot for an Adobe CC all apps sub but wasn't using most of it. Just after cutting it out I found out my beloved 3D software did video editing--hurra! Again, thank you. ❤
Excellent video! Very well organized, clear & concise explanations! Lots of detail without being overwhelming. BIG thanks! A few little suggestions for future videos: 1) Say "click here" less. The viewer often has to "hunt" for the mouse to find out to what you're referring. "Click in the top right", "Click on the menu option", etc. The big red arrow you added in for a few items was great, but probably not necessary in most cases. 2) Give us a moment to process what you've said. (Click THEN do rather than Click AND do.) You're actually pretty good in this regard. I've seen MUCH worse! 3) Modify the mouse: increase the size, add trails, or some such thing to make it easier to follow 4) A side text window listing key strokes. ("Blender Guru" does this in his tutorials.) Quite nice. 5) Controls summary. Much like the index (which is FANTASTIC, btw!) but with a list of keys/clicks/menu/shortcuts covered. 6) Much like the "Big Red Arrow", some text captions to identify areas of the workspace would be nice (or use a colour frame to highlight the one being discussed). I'll be back to watch part 2 (etc.) soon!
Thanks for creating this tutorial series! I've been doing motion graphics lately using Blender and I want to dive deeper into video editing. This was a really detailed tutorial on the video editing tools of Blender! Very looking forward to finish the series!
thankyou for these four videos, really helped me a lot. can you help with how exactly "remove gaps" function works to snap some of those strips into place. right now i am using pgup or pgdwn followed by shift+S to make it happen
Oh, you're back to where you started doing tutorials for Blender: VSE tutorials. A lot has happened in the VSE since your first ones. Looking forward to the next parts.
Man your videos helped me soooo much thank you! Here's my issue: whenever I crop a video so it's smaller than the frame, blender will show a thin rectangular line around the cropped image and I do'n't know how to get rid of it. I'm not talking about the highlight line that appears when the strip is selected... mine stays even after render... any ideas?
@@RyanKingArt It contained mostly what's in the Transform section (which are basically numbers), but they started adding things then attached it to the right side in the UI overhaul.

Do you recommend this Blender Video Editor over Kdenlive? I have used Blender VE to create a documentary in the past. But I have come out of it and am Using DResolve & Kdenlive. I don't know whether they have improved this video editor in the latest version.
What is your feeling about how this compares to Davinci Resolve? I can edit effectively in Resolve but I have never gotten into its node based Fusion panel. I am wondering if there's any specific advantage to using Blender's video editor.
I tried using Blender software as a video editor. However, since my video editing involves splicing more than 20 anime episodes into one 15-minute video, the software kept crashing. As a result, I ended up using Sony Vegas Pro for video editing. Nevertheless, I will continue to use Blender for 3D asset rendering. I love Blender as 3D software, but for video editing, it can be quite painful to use.
@@RyanKingArt in the next video, please discuss node geometry for making blocking environments in making 3d animation films. and we have implemented all the procedurals that you created. This is due to reducing the procedural rendering process which is the most effective at the moment. and node geometry. thank you I will study all this and follow every tutorial instructions that you make.
I am just starting out with Blender's VSE and followed your tutorial which is fantastic - thank you. I have an issue with audio though - is there anything to be particularly aware of when importing mp3 files? My file is simple - two mp3 clips with video and it won't render one of the mp3s even though they play in the sequencer. Just wondering if you ever had something similar - if not, ignore the question as you can't possibly answer without the file and it would be unfair to expect you to do so!
@@RyanKingArt I had three clips drop out from another video too. In the end I had to finish the audio in Audacity, then export it as a FLAC, before it would work in Blender. It's weird! Sooo frustrating. Thank you for the reply and thanks for all these great videos! Finally I can upload mine :-)
I am using Blender 3.4.1 on Debian 12, (KDE Plasma desktop). In editor type 'Video Sequencer', with view type 'Sequencer', instead of the nice clean black background your video shows you to be getting, I am getting an area filled with random digital garbage. While it does not in any way seem to hamper my video editing, it is still annoying and I would like to fix it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it (from the Debian repository - cli: 'apt purge ...' and 'apt install ...') and tried it with Gnome desktop, but to no avail. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Ryan, I am following your channel. Is an Iphone the best video camera to use on a budget? Also, I plan adding animated objects to some of the videos. Do you have videos on that? Thank you
there's really no benefit as far as I know. Its just up to personal preference. I like Blender, I use it a lot, and I know a lot about the program, so I like using its Video Editor. But I'm not saying its the best video editor out there. It really comes down to what the best program is for your use.
hmm, you can make a single video play backwards, but I don't know for an entire video editing project. I suppose you could render out the entire thing, then add it back into the video editor, make it play backwards with the reverse frames option, and then render it again.
I suspect I know the answer to this, but I will ask anyway. Can Blender's video editor be used to improve or repair sound? I've got 4.1, and it really looks (to this beginner) like there are few audio settings. I'm putting old video clips (from old cameras) together to make something better, but often clicks or wind noise, or people talking in the background, are a problem. I hope I won't have to mute them all and replace the sound with music; in some cases, it would be a shame to mute everything.
