    Premium gas = ECU advances the ignition timing = engine moves the truck more effortlessly at highway speeds = better MPG.

    Hey Jon, I just got my LC FE in Meteor Shower. Loving it. Similar but different from our 1999 Land Cruiser. Something for you to consider: you may want to keep better ventilation about the NiMh battery in the back end. You had your truck really packed tight, and that vent needs to be clear so you don’t heat up the hybrid battery. Just a thought. Dr. M

    HUGE fan of the 200 series Land Cruiser, despite never having owned one. I am fortunate enough to own an 8 cylinder truck of another make, and I LOVE the entire 8 cylinder, body on frame, driving experience.
    Do not know whether it's true, but I have read that automakers moved from 8 cylinder, and now even 6 cylinder engines to hybrids and turbo 4's, less to do with mpg per se, than government mandated emissions standards. It seems to be true, because, if the 8 cylinder Land Cruiser was getting approximately 15 mpg on the highway, then a turbo 4 cylinder getting approximately 19 (or even 20 mpg) on the highway is not exactly something to brag about.
    Just going off of what people type on RUclips, there seem to be plenty of people who would happily pay for the gas, if they could get their beloved 5.7 & 4.6 liter 8 cylinder engines back in (a brand new) their 200-series Land Cruiser's, LX 570's, GX 460's, Tundra's and Sequoia's.
    The flip side is that, there are also plenty of people who barely care what type of powertrain is in their vehicle, as long as it has Apple Car Play and a heated steering wheel.

    I don't really get the argument of tuning the LC for premium gas making it better as a global platform. Basically they are increasing the gas requirement, which means it would actually be more restrictive as a global platform. Am I missing something here? Shouldn't LCs be able to thrive in any environment and in that case, accept regular fuel by default?

    I stuffed some 1/4" diameter tube foam from HD into the gap and the problem went away. The gap is on both sides of the windshield, but only seems to be an issue on the passenger side. Hope they do a real fix for it.

    If you keep using regular gas in that vehicle it will develop a ticking noise when you accelerate. But the good news its that it will take a long time to develop that problem. Since you only keep vehicles for a short period of time whoever buys this SUV from you will inherit that problem. I know because it happened to a Lexus sedan that I own.

  • @birdie1497
    @birdie1497 Месяц назад +1

    You have to drive a hybrid differently than a normal non hybrid vehicle. I have a 05 Prius (best car I ever owned) that has an average of 46 mpg and typically I’m getting between 50 and 52 mpg. If you drive it like a hybrid you should actually get better gas milage. First of all you should add 5-7 PSI in your tires and use the pulse and lift method on the gas pedal, lay off the gas pedal and coast when you know you’re coming to a stop sign or red light. Do not mash the pedal down when leaving red lights etc. Get behind big 18 wheel trucks when you can on the highway to draft. There is a great video in “The car care nuts” RUclips page “How to get better gas Milage out of your Toyota and Lexus hybrids” i recommend watching it. He’s a Toyota Lexus mechanic he also has a video called “The 2024 Land Cruiser should you buy it” great in-depth video from a mechanic. I suggest checking them out. Love the Land Cruiser video updates! When you get with the engineers can you ask if the vehicle can be tuned to accept regular unleaded fuel like the Tacoma? And what will the long term issues be if you don’t run premium fuel in your Land Cruiser.

    My wife drove my new LC and obtained 19.5 miles per gallon. Her trip included city driving and 80 miles an hour on the freeway. I drove a 120 combined miles of rural 40 and 50 mph, Freeway with limits of 60 & 70, and city driving. I obeyed the speed limit and averaged 27.5 miles per gallon. I also had the truck in Eco mode. I am delighted.

  • @Andy-gn2hj
    @Andy-gn2hj 26 дней назад +1

    The only negatives I see with the LC so far is wish they had a B Mode (in addition to Eco, Normal, Sport) for steep downhills to engage the hybrid to slow the vehicle more (4cylinder has poor engine braking vs a v8 for icy downhills). I don't think using the trailer brake mode 5K+ does anything if not towing for downhills? Also going from 0 to 20 mph on a hill or getting on it accelerating takes some time for the turbo to spool up maybe and plus torque converter not designed tight so loud and buzzy I guess that's how designed? It has decent pep once hit 20 feels like.

    I have the same noise on the passenger side mirror area. I thought it was from the little piece of plastic cladding that is in front of the mirror. As for gas, EVERYONE should join Costco. You make up for the cost of the membership with the savings on gas at their pumps alone. Premium 93 has ranged from 3.30 to 3.57 in East Central Florida. Lots of land out here. Great summary of your trip, thank for your sharing. I think the premium gas did make the difference in mileage on your return trip, although your speed obviously can make a difference too. I was wondering if you can verify that Toyota puts a weight limit in the back due to the battery pack...I have heard they recommend no more than 160 lbs on top of the battery pack in the back of the landcruiser. I understand there is a sticker located in the back end of the battery pack that recommends the weight limit. Thanks again for doing this video! That is strange about why the Land Cruiser requires premium since I kind of imagine people either buying them or driving them through less developed countries which I don’t think would have many gas stations and if they do good luck finding one with 93 octane. So I don’t really buy that too much, also with what happened with the FJ Cruiser first requiring premium and then letting it take regular normally after a few model years in. Also, the FJ Cruiser was sold in other markets too, so I don’t buy that excuse. So I think there is likely another reason. I thought it might be a production line thing, but then the new 4Runner is being made in the same factory, and I think Toyota may have a problem if they make the 4Runner require premium. So I’m not really sure why, but I guess we’ll see in a few years if they do the same thing and let it take regular.
