Love to see the comparison between old and new Prado because that’s exactly what I’m considering right now.
Trying to line it up!
@@ReDriven Would love to see it!
Same here
I have a 2017 Prado. I thought about buying the 250, but the150 has many advantages, eg fuel tank capacity, so I'm struggling to find reasons to buy the 250. Plus once the retro novelty has worn off, the 150 will, I'm sure, be recognised as the better looking vehicle.
Would love to see that
The Pajero is kinda similar to Redriven... Way too underrated!!! And capable, no nonsense. The Super Select 4wd system is sort of like Redivens trademark, offering honest unbiased reviews which makes Redriven an absolute gem! Keep up the great work gents!!
Couldn't agree more 👍
Our old Prado died and we looked around for its replacement. Long range fuel tank was the one thing that stood out for us. We went with a second hand 2022 Prado, with only 50,000kms on the clock. Still has new car warranty too.
I think the new Prado has done a disservice in getting rid of the long range fuel tank. Time will tell.
Mux, Pajero Sport, Fortuner would be my alternative, obviously the Prado is above all those 3.
I drive Prados and Fortuners at work.I would definitely pick Fortuner plus lot cheaper.New Prados suck, should say current ones !
lol mux over a prado every day
No Ford Everest? How would you compare the top spec 2021 MUX LS-T to top spec Everest Titanium, which can be found for around the same, maybe MUX little less?
Don’t forget the 200 series guys! Have been waiting 2 years for a gxl prado that’s rolled onto the 250 prado, but for the same price, with all accessories and 56k kms on clock, I’ve sold out for a 2019 gxl 200 series. Granted, it’s outside of the warranty period now but looking at another 1 year wait at least for the 250 prado, plus whatever price increases between now and then. Not to mention the prado 250 being a first series model with a whole lot more beeping stuff that could wrong (see 300 series), I reckon it’s potentially the best option with the Toyota reliability. Keep up the good work though, the reviews are great 🤙
It comes down to dirt. Wet dog. Chainsaw and muddy boots. 2nd hand Paj or Prado for the win.
Pajero is it really capable and reliable?
The 2015 is good
@@ElieAtallah1 Yes it is.
Definitely didn't expect an alternative to X model new car today, especially since we haven't seen one of these videos for a while. Definitely a welcome surprise.
Did not expect the Porsche Cayenne as an alternative to the new Prado or for you guys to pick the Pajero as the best alternative either.
I don't know about everyone else but I'd definitely love to see a real world comparison of the new and old Prados to see which is better. Should throw the Pajero into the mix if you're able to borrow one as well.
Bloody good work guys and good to see an old video series from yourselves get a new episode.
As always guys keep up the good work and look forward to next week's videos as per usual 👍.
Mission impossible to find a Prado equivalent or better than just another Prado 👍
So true
Lexus GX 460😅
@@ElieAtallah1 LOL ... 👍
The Landcruiser Prado is one of our politicians' favorite vehicle here in Kenya. Some government institutions already have it (J250) as part of their fleet.
The other one is the Landcruiser 200. The 300 series not widely adopted, yet.
Anyways, the late model years Prado J150 and the Mitsubishi Pajero don't sound bad.
That's true. The other day, I saw a bunch of J250s in Gigiri with J150s as escort cars.
The LC200 could be a solid alternative for a maxed-out J250. But of course, value for money and peace of mind, the Pajero is definitely top of the list (for those of us who aren't politicians).
Did exactly your top pick a couple of months ago after watching your review of it. Picked up a full kitted out Pajero with 80k on the clock for sub 45. Dual battery, bull bar, suspension, rhino rack platform. Still smiling.
Did the same
How many Porsche's and VW's did you look at?
Id just keep my pajero and use the money to buy a fun daily
LR4 disco and reliable? and you said it with a straight face bahahahaha
I swear you can see Jim barely stopping himself from saying something clever in response to "surely you're not gonna have $50k worth of repair bills" haha
No mention of the new Everest. How bizarre.
Doing a side by side comparison between the new and previous models would be great. Personally, I don't think the new 250 is worth the steep price increase.
New vs old would be a great comparison, especially from less "biased" journalists like you guys.
For those same reasons I bought the last of the 150 prado’s. The new 250 Prado from my observation of the reviewers in the US, I’m Just not really impressed enough to splash more money than what I have already splashed with my 150 I now currently own.
From the start of this video, I was thinking Pajero..
I own the first of the 4th generation and after 12 years it's been faultless, if I had to replace I'd definitely buy another one...👍🏻👍🏻
Diesel or petrol?
I have one of the last V6 150 Kakadu’s. I chased down the last one Toyota had once I knew that they were no more with the facelift version and luckily it was at a local dealer. I’d love to see that in the test
By the way. We have a Disco 4. And yes agree with everything you said. Absolutely brilliant, just wish it didn't cost on average $2000 -3000 per year to fix issues, on top of servicing. Best bet...for $80,000, just by two Disco 4's.
$2000 a year vs interest + the depreciation on a new vehicle is A BARGAIN
I believe the new Prado has 3500kg towing capacity.
I'll second this
A lot of my friends are outback travellers and choose a Prado for two reasons: fuel range (150L tank) and reliability. The only thing that is equal or better is the Toyota Troopcarrier which go a long way in the outback on standard 180L tank.
A GXL Troopy would be on my list and now comes with a similar 2.8L motor, auto, 5 seats and doesn't depreciate at all. And they are a square blank canvas when it comes to setting up.
I saw the new Toyota land cruiser Prado yesterday. It's a stunner
New Prado has a 3500kg towing capacity.
I got a LR4 with 80k on it for $30k. Original tyres and appears to have never left Brighton. Spent a heap on a service, new tyres, roof rack etc... still less than 40k and i prefer to every 4WD drive today other than 80 series wagon (unobtainium)
Best choice imo too.
they should bring petrol one back
I just sold a top spec Pajero Sport after 10 years trouble free motoring [in Thailand]. It is seriously worthy of consideration, even if it's much more Fortuner than Prado.
Having moved [retired] to Japan though, I can get into a base 2.8 5 seater here for around Aud52k [list with tax]. Or a top range Hilux for similar. Thing is, for about 10k less, I can put myself in a top spec Mitsubishi Delica D5.
I like Toyotas. I've had Cruisers/ Hiluxes and even a Harrier.. I've also had Pajeros, Patrol, BMW X5 and a string of Delicas [including a first gen D5]. I just can't see the value proposition - especially further up the Cruiser250 food chain.
I don't tow anything, so it's a no-brainer. Mitsubishi Australia needs to import the D5 for you guys - you're missing out
The new Pardoo does have a 3500kg tow capacity.
Hard to spend money on a new Prado if you wanted to 1-2 year wait lol. Talked to my local dealer in June and said they already have 150 Prados on back order.
I've got the new Prado on order (apparently have an allocation) but the 48V system does concern me. A mate of mine owns a Disco 5 and the 48V system one it just shat itself. The Bill? $12,000. Luckily it was under warranty but when those things fail, they ain't cheap!! Sure his was a LandRover so it was preordained to fail but it does highlight another layer of complexity, Toyota or not.
Is the LR’s hybrid system integrated into the powertrain? I suspect Toyota went the route of a “bolt on” hybrid system (like RAM also use) so that if/when something should go wrong, the ICE powertrain can still operate without too much interference… and repairs are more economical.
I have heard of RAM’s hybrid system failing alot (…it’s a Stellantis product after all) and the truck can still function rather well. The user can even remove the hybrid drive belt to disable any drag due to the failed unit.
48v system is so they can use thinner wires for the less current but still output the same power as 12v
I thought Ford Everest would 100% be on the list, not saying they are good, but that is a real competitor.
When i bought my 150 earlier in the year, i cross shopped with Everest. It was the only thing comparable as Pajero Sport has a terrible anchor point system
The Isuzu MUX is in the mix with Everest and Pajero Sport.
I bought a 2021 Kakadu with 50,000km in January as a Toyota certified used car. Has the update 150kw motor and extended warranty to aug 2026. I’ve fitted a RTT and done almost 20000km in it including a 12000km trip around SA-WA. I love it and the long range tank and comfort are awesome. As you’d expect there have been zero issues and the Toyota service team really look after you, not that there is much for them to do. I couldn’t stretch to a new Prado and had a window of opportunity for a road trip between jobs so used it was. As good as the Prado is, I think Toyota are going to have some stiff competition from China, especially with respect to price and quality. As Chinese made quality moves ahead, it is harder to justify the Toyota price premium.
Buying a Patrol over a Prado because it’s bigger for the same money is like buying a jumper in size L instead of the size S you need because you get more fabric
I saw the new one on the road at night these days and it looked like a TANK, very impressive
A bit addicted to Redriven, I've had an NS pajero for about 8 years, it has 290000kms and still does a great job so keeping it for now. To continue my Redriven addiction I've just got a 2nd Gen CRV with 165000kms on it. Love it so far, it's been lifted a bit and has bigger 16" wheels. Might do a bit of light off-roading in it.
Hey guys love the content :) Just a heads up, the 250 Prado has gone up to a 3.5 tonne towing capacity :)
Coming from someone who works in the 4x4 industry. If you’re looking to do serious 4x4ing and lifting a Y62 either don’t touch it or spend some serious money on suspension and lifting gear. They are an absolute nightmare when lifted over 2 inches with alignment issues and chewing tyres
2" lift and some bigger tyres makes the Patrol very capable, not sure why anyone would want more than that?
@@prdreilly we get alot of guys wanting 35s plus and a 3-4 inch lift. We have a lot of customers with big lifted patrols. Not very uncommon but cost weigh up very quickly on those vehicles. Diff drops ect
I just sold my NX MY 21, and I tow a van, I’ll pull you both up when comparing the New Prado V Pajero is the towing, Pajero tows 3000kg and 180 TBW, that’s the difference right there, that’s where they are different, If the Pajero had a 300kg TBW I would still own it, I loved my Paj. So now I have a LC300.
Very surprised the FJ Cruiser did not come up! I personally think the FJ Cruiser will rank very high on the list!
I’m not impressed with the Pajero. We have had Prados and Pajeros at my work as company cars and the Prado absolutely destroys the Pajero when they’re brand new and when they have 450,000kms on the clock.
Well we sell the Pajeros at 450,000km because they feel well and truly worn out. I was driving one of the Prados last week with 540,000kms on it and it still felt really nice.
Pajeros are loud, have horrible steering feel and rough as guts when they’re new too.
Would love to see the comparison. You are doing a great job. Keep it up. Greetings from Germany!
The kicker for me on the new one is top hinged rear door. Split glass opening is great, too. I've had two Pajero's in the past and I found the side hinged rear door a massive nuisance both when getting the trailer hitched and while it's there. Great video
In the US, this car doesn't make much sense since a 4runner costs 15k USD less at 40k new from Toyota itself, compared to 55k for the Prado.
Could you guys please review a SAAB 😂
Owned 2 Pajero exceed’s and loved them. Went to trade in for my 3rd and they told me they no longer make them. Gutted. Boxy before boxy was cool. Still one of the best looking cars on the road.
I spent my early carrier working at dealers. I don’t trust any new vehicle no matter the brand. Toyota is certainly not infallible and is reminding more and more of my years at a Benz dealer in the 1980s as things rapidly get more more complex. Save your money don’t buy anything new let other buyers do the “ road testing, beta testing” while the defects are revealed and bugs sorted out.
Shhhhhhh I’m trying to buy a 150 I need the prices to drop a bit when the new one comes out, don’t talk it up
Same here🙌
Once the new ones come out and start taking years to be delivered then it’s possible the 150s don’t go up at all just look at the rav 4
@@leowinsnever7027 Sometimes I need to leave my car unattended for weeks.
I need to disconnect the battery before I leave.
All the high voltage , semi hybrid system is not that easy for me.
I want reliable and a little bit old school but reasonable safety function
Which is boil down to Prado
But the price is rip off. Way too much..
2014 Hemi 5.7 Jeep. Pick it up for under $20k. Will drink more petrol, but more fun to drive, just as capable and a big saving!
Yep a new Grenadier will be a better option as you can get them at a better price these days.
Except I sat in one and I couldn’t live with the driving position with that very raised left foot rest. It was just too uncomfortable.
My mate had 17 year old prado, I have the pajero, both 250kkm, his engine died, $16k to replace. Mines going wonderfully.
Prado has a solid rear axel and a factory rear locker compared to an IRS of a Pajero. The Prado should be able to flex better off road (I accept it will still lift a front wheel). And on the wading and approach angle positions. Aren’t they solved with an aftermarket bar and snorkel?
Bought a 105 this year
Makes me miss my old Pajero everyday
That pajero is still under warranty for 2-4 years
As the owner of a second-gen Touareg which set me back $30k a few years ago, can confirm it is very capable off road and pretty cheap to run. Haven't had any major reliability issues yet. Had an LR4 Disco before the Touareg and I.....can't say the same for that thing. Lovely car for the two months a year it wasn't getting something fairly catastrophic repaired. I suspect I got one of "the bad ones", but nonetheless, night and day compared to the sturdy VW so far.
New vs old, YES PLEASE!
if the comparison between the prado 150 vs 250 is great idea I would recomend both kakadu specs so it an even playing field
So many auto journalist never had or lose touch with the “ real world” of working on these things and actually having to live with a new car that cost as much as a house. And 100k should be nothing on a modern car.
I did order a new Prado a year and a half ago,
Discovered new price is more than 10k, probably I will wait until the dust will settle before buying it.
Do the 150 v 250 comparison for sure! 👌👍😎
I want a 250 now!
You should see if you can get a 120 and a 90 series as well and the FULL PRADO EVOLUTION!!
I've had a 90 for 10yrs and absolutely love it!!
Definitely keen to see a comparison between the two
Roughly 100k for the new Prado - with all the new model bugs still to iron out, or about 30k for a low mileage 20-21 Pajero - a model with over 20 years of being tried and tested. It's a no brainer for desert driving.
It’d be cool to see the old Vs new Prado comparison 👍
Bought a 2023 150 gxl as I wanted the last of that model run. The 150litre tank clinches it for me.
Does the BMW X5 (F15) 2016/17 come into the conversation? I’m looking to upgrade from a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder for a family car. Dont need full on off road capability; just want to be able to drive down an unsealed road at 50-60kmph without breaking the car or getting shaken to bits. I know the bmw isn’t a true off roader but you can pick a 7-8yo one with 60-70kms for $45-50 AUD and the inside feels next level to Toyota etc
A comparison of new vs. old would be great! I was lucky enough to snag a brand new Dec 2023 build Prado VX, so am interested to see the difference.
I waa surprised not to see a ford everest. But overall the video was entertaining and informative. Cheers 🍻
Yes please compare them, if you could include the generation before that as well would be cool
Do it! This is something everyone wants to see. Compare away!
Currently looking at used 300s as the wait for the Prado is getting ridiculous. Test drive an Everest V6. Drive train is seriously impressive but ride quality average, rear seats don't fold flat and rear seats are very cramped imo.
Yes, I want to see the new v old Prado comparison, keep up the good work gentlemen 👍
Absolutely love to see a comparison of the 150 & 250!
Yes!!! Definitely dothe comparison between the 2 prados. I am in the market to buy a 'mid' size SUV. Even include the everest to compare ew to old... plus would make for good RUclips footage.
Okay keep up the good work guys. Look foward to seeing that vid..
At that price I’d be very tempted by a 2018-2019 Lexus LX570, although I love the new Prado styling with the round headlights
You guys should do old v new Prado! I have the 150 Prado Kakadu and I can fault it, very reliable and tows well with the air suspension which is something the new one doesn’t have.
A definite yes for a 150 vs 250 comparo.
What about the 2019 Pajero? What’s the difference with the 2020-2021 models?
Yes, new vs old even for other vehicles, please! Even for a vehicle that’s “new” or less than a year old then its predecessor.
The thing with Pajero is the rear door with that spare. If you want larger wheels you won’t fit a matching spare and not sure what you can do to remove that whole plastic cover?
Boys a talking some sense with alternatives . The porche option is enticing
Never buy the:
First chassis release
First engine iteration
First transmission iteration
If you get all 3, it's the trifecta. Look at the Mazda CX60/90 as a clear example. It needs a lot of time to teeth out all the issues with all 3 above.
Chassis is the same platform as Landcruiser 300
Engine has been used for years. 48V has been in Hilux for close to a year now.
Transmission is the good old Aisin. I think you’ll find that variations have been used in Lexus cars for years.
Yes to the comparison between 150 and 250!! 😊
Resale value says it all
Yeah would love to see the new Prado (if it ever comes out in AU) v the old model.
Totally off topic, but i’d love for you guys to do a modern honda hybrid. I appreciate theyre not really old enough to even be used buys, but i’d love jim’s opinion on hondas dual motor hybrid system.
You’ve talked me into the new Prado.
In the UK Nissan don't send us any large SUV's the nearest we get in the Navara CrewCab or the X-Trail!
When they used to send us the Nissan Patrol it never had a meaty engine, we were supposed to swoon at the 2.8 4 banger "Spit"
Would love to see the comparison of old vs new Prado, would be an interesting comparison !!!
Current pardo is bestselling for Toyota
2:20 Dunno that pricing cars by the kg is really the best metric guys. Unless you have a deep (& weird) love of steel ofc. Big steel is like flexing by showing off a big zirconia.
Nice video! I’d be interested to see you compare 150 vs 250. I do think there’s an aspect to your video worthy of mention: resale. Most of the cheaper alternatives will ultimately not retain as much value (potentially even new Pajero). I’d wager the 250 being fairly good at that. Interesting you don’t compare used Defender with new 250.
Also the Prado 250 can tow 3500kg (of course it’s such a moot point as anything over 3 tonnes practically speaking needs an American pickup)!
Can you put a Toyota engine in the LR Discovery? Asking for a friend 🫣
Anything is possible with lots of money
Super Video ! It's absolutely crazy to see the car price market in AUS. How you get a Disco 4 for 50k that we have in EU for 8k or a Cayenne 35k this is a theft. Can't you get it from GB? Is this worth it ?
People buying a prado aren't worried about saving money they want RELIABILITY above anything else... so they're never going to consider a Discovery or a VW product 😂😂 I just drove a 2020 Cayenne for 1500 kilometres around Nova Scotia and Cape Breton and what an annoying uncomfortable ridiculous shitbox full of chimes and counter-intuitive that thing was to drive 🤮🤮
Come on boys, get serious. If someone is in the market for a 250 Prado, they are not going to be looking at VW's or Porsche's or Pajero's or LR4's. , seriously.
I think the target market for it is definitely on the higher end than the previous models, but traditionally people who have bought them would have cross shopped them with Pajeros. I could see someone who has an older one looking for an upgrade get a Pajero instead
That's a bit of judgey remark.
I have a Nissan Navara and love the yank tanks worth 3 to 4 times the amount just because you like 1 thing doesn't mean you may not like another in a different price range
A Pajero would definitely be in the running
Not entirely true.
I have a Nissan 4x4, but also own 2x Porsches and a VW. I buy what I like because of what each of them offers: not because of their similarities.
@@benmmm7359 OK, but you own 4 cars. Most people only have one car and I dare say they are not tossing up between a Porsche and a Prado, and if they are, they have absolutely no intension of going off road in either.
I bought an Everest V6, that 2.8l is a gutless shit box.
Hopefully you don't get bit with all the stupid issues the next gen rangers and Everest are suffering. But, it is a land rover motor after all....
it's not much different to the ford territory v6 diesel
hi, great video. lots to think about. i would take the mitsubshi. like you said very cheap and you can upgrade and sitll have money to go around oz. if possible take the comparisan a step further and compare all the car you mentioned. adding cost on fitting the others to get them to the same standard/level. thanks great job keep it up.
2 near new Pajeros for the price of 1 new Prado. Good sense check guys, always great info in your videos.
Great vid boys. What about an FJ Cruiser?
LC ver Pajero and both have the same offroad capability, and the same fuel thirst 😉 but tunning/ modding arena for pajero is far wider/richer all across world, so you get lump of spare cash and the same towing, offroad cross country capabilities. PAJERO is cler winner as a daily, towing, school run, cross country "tank"👍
I like that the new prado could be a hybrid
You may or may not be able to answer this for me. I’m looking at my first 4 wheel drive but it will barely ever get on dirt except for a couple hundred of kilometres total a year. It’s going to be my daily driver and its other job will be to pull a horse float 10 to 20 times a year. I’m only looking at 4 wheel drives as a tow rig. So it’s also baffling. Any idea where I should start looking. Any help would greatly appreciated.
