I’m very touched by this episode. Yoh I know if an Auntie who was really taken for granted and was not fairly paid for the work she was expected to do 😢😢😢😢imagine having to take care of two kids under 7byears and most of the time she was made to sleep with the kids. Manage two huge bedroom house ( two houses that are conjoined) was not allowed to use a washing machine as Given has highlighted this on the conversation I just remembered her. I went there to assist on the house warming and Auntie shared with me her experience ( I was so heart broken knowing her employer’s are probably close to being millionaires if they just aren’t already at the time). I couldn’t believe that she was paid R1700 for month salary and the employer knew her background that the Auntie had 5 kids that she had to share that R1700 with. I couldn’t believe my eyes when she showed me the income. I thought maybe her employer will just be shaken and be embarrassed to give her such an amount. To top it off she was the one to clean up after the even. 😢😢😢 I would never forget that Auntie, I hope she found a way out and found something better ❤❤❤.

My beautiful gorgeous God sent helper is looking after my aging mom. I love her so much. I pray for her often. She is an extension of my life... I am always conscious of the sacrifice of leaving Lesotho to work in SA. We should be extra kind to them.

Oh let them go home😭for the longest time I used to have so much anger that my mom had no time to come see me or even come to my school for a meeting because she was was taking care of another family. As much as she didn't show it at work I realise now that she has regrets for missing so many milestones in my life that sometimes I have to explain to her it's hurts ,we might have the best relationship now but damn it hurts to see that she was also hurting for not being there for me.I hope there will be an episode on the children of the nanny and how the feel.

😢😢😢 your comment hit home. My mom was an auntie and my dad was a pastor. Both of them catered to other families but were absent in their own kid's lives. My sister and I practically had to raise each other

With givers and caretakers, it's even worse because they never see their own as lacking. When you realize they were also growing up and didn't notice they were neglecting you, that's the day you'll find peace. I think society misled us about people being able to multitask.

Beautiful chat, and lovely anecdotes guys. I'll share mine too because Ursula asked so nicely. When my son was born, my parents wanted me to go back to school to finish my degree. It was in another province so I would only come back every term. We had a high turnover of nannies for the first 6 months of his life and it was rather stressful. Then we found HER!!! Sis Phili. Oh she was an angel. My son was always on her back as she did the daily chores. I even experienced extreme jealousy upon my final return home that December because that child was glued to her. She would cook supper even though it was not part of her duties. It was terrible 🤣and we struggled to gently get her to stop cooking. She washed our sneakers unprovoked. My son was obsessed with dusting and wiping as he began his toddler stage. Then one day she left to pursue a nursing qualification. I was so proud of her. she still checks in on facebook from time to time. My son is now 15.

I love Ursula's take on not having to confuse their love for the sacrifices they do for us. They can still be the best even with just doing what you've asked them to do the right way.
Let's indeed pour back to the them with the same magnitude or even more🥺❤️. Let's not forget they had/have lives and families before joining ours❤

Aaahhh, loved this episode, a topic very close to my heart and especially the part about treating abo Aunt as humans, that they too have families to go to, treat them with the same grace we also get from work. Just to add that nibaphe amaBonus nabo on bonus month. Love ❤️ it

I am a big TCC fan and I just want to give a shoutout for consistently bringing out valuable and insightful content🥹 From a child's perspective, growing up in a working class single parent household, my mother worked very hard but that meant her not always being home early, or being away on work trips. I was also an only child for the most part and so something I appreciated greatly about having an auntie at home is there was always a parent figure at home that I could tell about my day, someone who helped me a lot like when I got my first cycle she was there and taught me all I needed to know and calmed me down. I also grew a deep respect for aunties in general because of how I have seen my family treat them (kids observe more than they listen)

Interesting episode. I did my PhD on black male cleaners at Wits because of an experience in Masters with an older female cleaner. Wasn’t greeting this one Auntie. One day, I’m rushing down the stairs off-campus accommodation to write an exam. She didn’t stop for me to pass on one of the floors. Tried to slip through and she pushed me saying: Do you not see me? Very interesting topic with you guys about intimate strangers.
