    "Dear Gregg, I'm really glad to get a comment from you, who are specializing in Rach concerto N. 3. Where do you live? Check out my Faure quartet transcription or other transcriptions like Busoni concerto. All of them were premiere performances. I think to do an ongoing project of transcriptions would be fun, or even to explore new repertoire through transcribing is worthwhile. I was playing them without writing them down, because I try to experiment with the technical and musical methods of creating while playing. Now I am doing Shostakovich Concerto N.1 with a completely different approach. I first played it through on the piano as I did other concertos while adding the other parts, and then I went to writing it down and remembered it from playing it.it's just experimental. it's good to play in places where there is no orchestra, but music is high in demand. otherwise, orchestras is best. But at the same time I would really like to try a new experience playing big concertos without a conductor to see how I can communicate with orchestra musicians. That's kind of an idea underneath of my transcriptions."

    I can't decide if it angers me or saddens me that the majority of people will never fully appreciate just how incredibly talented one needs to be in order to pull this off. The term 'genius' gets thrown around a little to loosely these days (imo), but THIS is what a true genius looks and sounds like. Gone far too soon.

    Because I also play this work (although not nearly as well) I can listen for his methodology. He leaves many of the solo passages alone and does not try to accompany them, because they can "hold their own" by themselves.
    During block chords (that ordinarily take both hands...that is with an orchestra), he handles those only with his right hand and uses his left for accompaniment.
    Obviously it is impossible to use both hands and play the entire solo passage with both hands, he has to allow for using the left hand for the orchestra. He usually leaves the really difficult passages for both hands...because one does not usually hear the orchestra above them anyway. He does not embellish the accompaniment in strictly orchestral passages...and tends to just play them and leave them as they are.
    The key is to keep it smooth and he is wonderful at that. Not to mention memorizing it.
    I am not saying anything here to disparage his genius and creativity. In order to do this, it requires a deep knowledge of the music...in a wholistic view...not just looking at the score. Hearing it is more important than "parsing" out the accompaniment.
    I understand he has passed. This is a terrible pity...as he had an absolutely amazing and wonderful talent.

    • @Classicalrecitals
      @Classicalrecitals  2 года назад +2

      No, since Alkan's concerto has been originally written be composer for piano solo without any orchestral parts. Alkan only imagined his orchestra.
      Unlike here, a full symphony orchestra and piano soloist's parts written for all instruments in a full score by Rachmaninoff, but although its running through all together on one piano by Christopher. Rachmaninoff didn't write that.

    I adore this piece, but to hear it solo on a piano alone.. I didn’t think it was possible. I’m like WOW. To hear the music is uplifting, but to see someone actually playing it, is an overwhelming emotional response.. to feel the emotion in the music. It’s just WOW. Great performance. I wish I could play just a little.

      Albert peckham "This is epic pianism. ... He [Falzone] clearly has excellent haptic memory in his fingers, his arms, his back, his entire body. This haptic memory is facilitated by intensive devotion to absorbing the music he performs. Falzone is just such a Force of Nature. Not satisfied with mere sensation, touching and feeling erupt into embodied experiences that are emotional and expressive, personal and interpersonal {...}If you are near enough to Falzone at one of his performances, you will see arcs, giant arcs. And probably sparks as well. Lava. Smoke. Brimstone. Exciting, impressive, beautiful!" ~ Chamber Music Today

      Classicalrecitals International Awards-Winner Christopher Falzone is acclaimed as a "brilliant pianist, who performs an astounding array of diverse repertoire, being truly at ease in any style and with any composer," he was recognized by legendary and glorious Martha Argerich - "a beautiful, imaginative artist and a marvelous pianist," she noted. Enthusiastic audiences named him "a philosopher in music and big artist" (Gazetta Vechernyaya Odessa). Also the formidable intellectual British pianist Leslie Howard, who for 20 years has been a member of Council of the Royal Philharmonic Society, as well as President of the Liszt Society, remarked "Christopher has justly received glowing encomiums from distinguished musicians from around the world." The Italian pianist and triumphant of international competitions as Cleveland, Van Cliburn and Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, welcomed Christopher's performances and expressed, "...Falzone is truly a unique talent, in that his personality and artistry spring from his pronounced individualism and in a world where so often pianists sound the same, he is one of those artists whose voice, whose sound one can instantly recognize. I am certain you and your audience members would love him."
