  • Do This After Every Windows Update
After doing a major update to Windows 10 or Windows 11, its important to extend the 10 day period to 60 days. This will ensure you have 60 days to test the windows update and see if your pc is effected by the windows update. If your computer is having trouble, then roll back to a previous build before the you updating to this latest release from Microsoft. Without extending to 60 days, you will only have 10 day and by then its too late to rollback.
Open command prompt as administrator and type:
    DISM.exe /Online /Get-OSUninstallWindow
    DISM /Online /Set-OSUninstallWindow /Value:60
    getting error?
    navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup
on the right hand pane, look for "UninstallWindow" if its not there, create New / DWORD (32-bit) Value and call it UninstallWindow
change value to 60 on decimal

i'm glad a saw this. I just updated to 22H2 3 days ago and since then have noticed some lag issues within windows along with windows just plain not recognizing my printer and having to uninstall then reinstall my printer drivers, also resetting all my default apps to default. I'm definitely doing this.

Be sure to run Cmd prompt as Admin. Worked like a cham. Did the update about 5 days ago, everything stable, but nice knowing I have an extended period to rollback. After 60 days Windows 11 will automatically delete the Windows Old Folder. If all is well after 60 days will delete my 21H Image backup and create a new backup Image of the 22H Install. Thanks for all your hard work and tips. Always spot on!

Great video. Windows 11. An operating system made for the benefit of Microsoft and not the end-user. As time goes on it seems to get more problematic/troublesome all the time. It’s harder to use with more bells and whistles which I don’t use at all.

Instead of rolling back, can I just reimage my laptop to the last backup? Would this cause any problems with my Microsoft account?

Regarding Window ISOs, you CAN generate an ISO for your specific build. If you search online for ""uup dump" you can find some guides on how to use it. It's basically a site that generates a script for you, which you run locally to download officially available windows components to build the ISO. I had an issue with a Win 11 PC that had a broken windows update, and wanted to "repair" my installation using an official ISO. The problem was that my Win 11 build was _newer_ than what Windows Media Creation Tool was providing, so it wouldn't let me "keep personal files" during the repair. With "uup dump" I was able to build an ISO for my specific build and successfully repair my install and keep personal files.
(reposting this comment since the original one had a link and was possibly flagged)

This yet another thing that shows that you really should keep all your own data on a different partition from the Windows OS and image as a backup. Ideally, you would also like to be able to backup and restore the partition with Windows on it too but that is very hard to do. On every update there is always the risk that Windows will be so broken you can't even run it well enough to roll it back. You need to have alternative media you can boot from.

Hej Brian thanks for the video this is very nice that you can extend the time to 60 days to roll back to the previous Windows version for those who want do that and I agree with you 10 days to roll back to the previous Windows version is too short time. What I usually do and which is important, I usually always save my Iso files of the latest Windows versions so if I want to do a clean installation of Windows so in my case I have saved windows 11 21H2 Iso file and also the new Windows 2022 Update H2 version. Then you have the opportunity to do a clean installation of, for example, Windows 11 21H2 I think that Microsoft should have on its website also the previous Iso file of the Windows version to download both for Windows 11 and Windows 10. But I save the previous Windows version Iso files, that's what I think everyone should do so if you get real problems with a new Windows version then you can go back and do a clean installation of the previous Windows version. I'm running Windows 11 2022 H2 update and it's running fine so far on my Msi gaming laptop but Intel has released a lot of Updates for Windows 2022 H2 for my computer and also my software I have on my computer take care Brian and have nice day and week.

Great video. Thanks for the info, and all of the comments. Fortunately we have options, even the option of no computer or phone. 😂
FYI, if you try to set more than 60, it just ignores without error message. Has anyone tried to set after a few days? And does it still go to 60?

Personally every major Windows update, I run disk cleanup and purge everything. Never had any issues on my or thousands of client machines.
I've seen client initiated rollback fail too many times and then I'm called to clean up the mess or figure out why it failed. I have seen it work flawlessly though.
Not moving to Windows 11 until the program menu is configurable.
My way of working is technical and quick, not flowery and slow.

@@Britec09 I meant to say, I never had any issues due to a Windows update whereby I had to rollback to a prior version, that includes Windows 8. I didn't buy into Windows 8 until it was Windows 8.1 so I saved myself grief. As a safety measure, I don't recommend users (or myself) to upgrade to the next major version until one year has passed. There's no hurry and alot of potential trouble to miss. I'm not lucky, just prudent.

Sometimes a fresh install can fix issues too, there can be hidden issues from all the accumulated updates, I've experienced it more than once. Just be aware.

Whenever a new update comes out, I use the media creation tool to download the iso and save it somewhere so I have the current and previous versions in case I need to reinstall a previous OS version.

Hello, i really like your video's i just have a little request, i am blind and could not figure out what you typed i know sighted people can see this on their screen. It would be nice if short commands like this would be spoken. Its those really small things that can make such a differnce. I just bought a brandnew pc wihtout a screen cause i dont need it, unfortunately its not ossible to set up narrator until some settings have been set. I understood that narrator would start up brandnew out of the box just like voice over on an apple device but taht doesnt seem so. I now have a monitor cable on the way and will need help of a sighted person to just cick / skip throuhg the first screens til narrator option is available and thats it .. till that time i just sit here waiting .. lol :) i wish those easy to fix things would just be sroted out sometimes thanks for reading mak

Even if you miss the ten day window there is nothing to stop you from wiping the drive and reinstalling WIndows 10. You might even get rid of some factory bloatware too.

I rolled back my windows 11 Pro update yesterday as it caused some issues I am still sorting out. Now, today, I got a notice from windows that it is going to auto update my system...again. I paused my updates but, it only let me do it for 3 days I think it was. WTF? I do not want this update and had to roll back once already. I do NOT like not having control over my own computers!

Love what you do but couldn't get this to work for me. Windows 10 v21H2
Wished I knew about this before (if I could get it to work) as Windows is now annoying me with a consistent blue screen "Getting Started"on every restart. If it wasn't for games I'd drop Windows in the bin where it belongs.
