  • It's the most mysterious piece of kit in shooting and in this week's programme we're on a mission to discover the answer to the big question: how do they make riflescopes? We are the first camera crew to be allowed behind the scenes at the classiest of glass merchants, Zeiss in Germany, to see precisely what it takes. Then we go off to a range to try out the Zeiss scopes. But not just any range. This is a cinema, where you can shoot elephants, wild boar - anything you like - and with real rifles. What fun!

That was just great, Zeiss is the best or very close to the best. My current rifle of choice wears a Zeiss fixed 4x that I bought in 1980. And I am convinced that its the greatest hunting sight ever made. And in the 31 hunting seasons I have had it, its been mounted on four different rifles. My current rifle of choice, a Blaser R-93 in 7mm RM. My rule of thumb is buy the good stuff at the start, its cheap to do it that way. I wish they would make fixed 4 and 6 powers again. They don't sell!

@pikemancolley A good second hand s400 or s410 or the new BSA Scorpion SE. Go for it in .177 and will hunt and do targets just as well. The SE is an ambi stock so it would suit you well. That is where my money would go. Hope this helps

A little less foolishness and a little more respect while sharing the best lens makers in the World if you please.
