This will really help me in selecting my CB. Its very over whelming like you said. It makes sense to me now. I have watched about 30 CB videos and yours was the easiest to follow and understand. You explained using the 3 water clarity types and showed example baits for each. EXCELLENTLY DONE.
Matt you just delivered I my opinion the best method to choose colors for Crankbaits. As you mentioned different hues can be added to ones liking to build a level of confidence. Great information!
The color choices are insane, thanks for being so honest about your choices. I have found that what you are saying is 100% correct , please keep up the awesome info and good luck at Rayburn!
@@MattStefanFishing by listening to guys like you over time I hope to be able to fish what ever water and pattern I find. I take notes (being methodical compensates for IQ) and compare to my experiences. Thanks again.
Great topic. Thanks Matt. Got some questions regarding your clarity/ color system. 1. In muddy water do you typically utilize a slower retrieve so the fish can find the bait? 2. In crystal clear water do you utilize a faster retrieve so they don’t get a good look at the bait?
You have to respect a man who has sponsors and still doesn’t over sell you on unnecessary tackle. If a tournament fisherman doesn’t think he needs it, I know a weekend bank angler like myself doesn’t either.
When would you choose a mat finish over gloss? And do you let matching the hatch trump adjusting for water clarity? Like would you still throw a white based shad crank in 2-4 feet of vis if you're fishing a bluegill fishery? Or would you try to find a bluegill pattern with a white base? Or should I just throw the shad cranks and not worry about it since it's a reaction bite anyway?
I think I'm pretty late to the party cuz I have yet to get myself some of the fritz-side cranks and fish them.. I don't know why I haven't because I've heard a lot of good stuff about it, thanks for the crank tip's Matt, stay safe and healthy out and rooting for you in your tourney's and stick some pig's!!👍🎣
Great points and I totally agree - I don’t do it much but I will throw a plain black crank bait in clear water and have luck with it. Seems better when it is a deep diver - say over 12 or 14 feet deep. I don’t know why - maybe you know?
Thank you Matt, very good advice and well received. I have a topic for a future episode or when you have time, I have seen that some anglers change their treble hooks for single hooks in crankbaits and jerkbaits arguing less damage to the fish and better hook up ratio. What do you think ?
Just from my experience, I have found that a translucent bluegill or perch gold color has worked pretty well across the states regardless of water clarity. I believe that the fish can see better than what we give them credit for.
I really like the straitforward approach of this channel no fancy editing just hey here is a tip with some explanation or examples.. as in fishing sometimes ya gotta keep it simple..
In northern ultra clear water, what color is best to keep the pike from stealing my crankbaits? Or any other tips to discourage toothy critters from biting?
Good luck on Rayburn this week! For tannic water with good visibility would you stick with the translucent baits or the white baits due to the stained hue of the water?
in one of your earlier video's you talked about black crank baits. 6th Sense makes a black/blue squarebill that dives 2 to 5 ft and i bought mine at Walmart just a few days ago. maybe someone else needs one
Awesome video!!!👊🏻 Nice job on the tutorial of explaining the when, where's & why's to use a certain color. Never seen it explained like this before once again Great Job!!!👍🏻😎 Stay Safe & God Bless!!
Another great video with info we can put to use. I have a suggestion for a possible video topic. 'Have sponsors become to demanding'. I'm mainly talking about what I see in television. It used to be a show host may mention a specific brand but the show concentrated on the technique not brands. Now shows are product ads. The show titles even specify products being featured. What happened? Randy Blaukat had a video where he talked about the declining influence of Classic winners and rising influence of RUclipsrs. Maybe this is the reason. What makes it worse is the blatant copies of Japanese baits that manufacturers are putting out. They then come to Icast and say look what we made. Sorry, I'm ranting. Thanks again.
Well, as a color-blind guy, I just stick with natural colors when it comes to crankbaits, it is either a shad or crawdad, light or dark. Simplified enough. Yes there are too many colors to choose from this day and time.
Listen, Matt. Don’t tell me how to live my life. If I want to blow my paycheck on a color that looks pretty, I’m going to do it!!! Jokes aside - great advice!
Great tip. I spent too many years thinking that a lure had to be “realistic” to work. Of course, all I ever had to do was keep in mind that a spinnerbait doesn’t look like anything…….
Pre-recorded videos while he is on the tournament trail so we can still get our fix🤠. Nice of him to do that for us.
You betcha!
I keep it really simple....has a massive room full of every tackle known to man LOL. Love it.
Haha

Loved the crank bait breakdown , water color for me choosing color crank baits and other baits too

Nailed it. "They" offer toooooooooo many color options, creating Paralisys due to analysis. Thanks for the vids.
Agreed

1. In muddy water do you typically utilize a slower retrieve so the fish can find the bait?

Usually yes on both
Thanks for all the videos you post

This is a great video. I only wish I had seen this before, I spent my entire Christmas bonus on new crankbait colors! LOL Great content as always
+1 butha
Thanks
I try to keep it simple with crank baits. There are some crazy paints jobs out there that I think are just for the fisherman.
Agreed!
Kind of digging that Berkley sweatshirt you are wearing...Oh the video was good too, love throwing the squarebill
I love that sweatshirt
You're growing and you deserve it , good job!$$$

Grats on hitting 20k!

Very informative! Thanks. Do you use silent or noisy cranckbaits ? (Suggestion for a next vidéo 🙂).

Thanks!
@@MattStefanFishing hahaha 🤣 rutting
ideas to help me pick the right crankbait for the water i am fishing
Yep
Thank you! Do you change these colors at all based on sky conditions? Sunny vs. cloudy?
I might choose a different color but stick with these basic colors
When would you choose a mat finish over gloss? And do you let matching the hatch trump adjusting for water clarity? Like would you still throw a white based shad crank in 2-4 feet of vis if you're fishing a bluegill fishery? Or would you try to find a bluegill pattern with a white base? I like mat finish on sunny days and gloss on cloudy days. Generally a Shad color depicts most panfish as well to a point IMO
Always used the old guide of bright day, bright lure, dark day (or night) dark lure
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Matt I appreciate the information good luck and God bless 🙏

Black stands out good in deep water since there’s not much light penetration the deeper you get
Try a red with a black back deep...

I don’t believe a single hook is better hookup ratio
Just catching up with your videos, great content.

Dark colors

At 3:00 you said there are white bases and opaque bases. Isn’t white opaque? Or did you mean to say white and translucent? Thanks.
Translucent sorry

Read the clarity of the water and the season and water temp we are in

Are color choices even simpler the higher you go in the water column (wake bait you showed or even topwater) regardless of water clarity?
Yes i would agree with that
congrats on 20k matt. you've quickly moved into my 3 favorite channels. insane amount of great videos.

Most sponsor deals are exclusive and prevent the promotion of competing products

No reds or Oranges I’m shocked I love an Orange/gold , followed by a black and blue (old greg killer color) or a powder blue chartreuse
Powder blue is a good one!
