Great video as always. Thank you for not trying to be a TV show and wasting time with a stupid intro. I love you videos cause they are straight to the point with no bias. Keep up the great work.
You can say that again! I hate those dumbass intros
I like the efficiency
i never know what the F*** this guy is talking about, but i always feel compelled to watch all the way to the end. i think its his enthusiasm and genuine excitement when he finds something of unexpected value. and also his nonchalant and brutal honesty when he comes across something that is below his expectations.
Yeah. There’s a number of channels I could watch in solar, I’m trying to figure out a system for a property I’m looking at, but his “geekthuseasm” and the simplicity makes me come back for more info.
Just know that even though you might not know what he is talking about, he is telling you the facts with NO BS. Stick around and learn. He is rare and refreshing................. Will Prowse reviews.
dude I just wanna say I love your video editing and pacing. No loud intro or time wasted, quick cuts getting to the info.
I live off grid and use an ancient lister stationary engine to power a car alternator. It's riveting to watch the enthusiasm of the young man as he explains the ins and outs of batteries etc which are so relivant to me. Many thanks
Congrats on the 500K Subs, brother. I started watching you a LONG time ago when you were just a kid! You've taught me everything I needed to know to power up my 1990 Foretravel Grand Villa. It's a 29 foot RV and I put four 100W panels on top and built myself four 12 Volt LiFePO4 batteries (with your help) and now have a great running, 48 Volt system in my RV. Thanks again for your enthusiasm and your practical testing so that we don't have to get ripped off! God Bless you & yours and your channel, son!
I love how thorough you are! Thanks for continuing to put out such excellent work.
Oh and I have two CHINS on my Cirrus and they are so far working great. Battle Born needs to come down on there pricing.
I want to know what the other battery manufacturer is. Can't wait for the video when you unveil it! Thanks for disassembling!
this is not a diffcult job to make this knock off, we can make the similar one given a week time or so\
I have 2 SOK 206 batteries powering a 24 volt MPP system in my RV. I've been very happy with this setup. Thanks for posting these tear downs.
Gosh I wish you were my nephew and you lived in Cincinnati!!! I would totally have you set my she shed up! You're very relaxing to listen to.
DIY its your shed :)
In my travels (and shopping - Yes I knew that I was buying knockoffs) to China, the seller would ask if I would like “Made in America” added to the product. Back then, it had me wondering just how much of our “Made in America” stuff was really Chinese. Now days, it’s everything!
Reality check.....in the UK much of our beef that's marked with the Union flag is actually only :cut in the UK'
Madness everywhere
This is also the case for beef in America because of a recent change in regulations. Wait till all of us meat eaters start getting vCJD from the mad cow outbreak back in the 90’s. They say it is not in the supply here but we have a handful of cases now but most are in the UK. It is a shame what was done to the beef supply.
@@andrewangelos85 & then there is Halal meat. Crap 💩 🤬
You're crazy to buy meat from the store. Just find a local rancher and buy direct. If you don't need the whole thing, go in on it with a few other families. The cost isn't much different than what you would've paid at a store.
Thanks Will! I just ordered a pair of the SOK 206ah batteries for my van build. Now I need to watch some more of your vids to get the other components orders too. 👍
Did the company ever come up with a third prototype? Did you ever put out a "Part 2" to this video?
Thanks for all of your hard work producing these videos!
Nice tear down, I'm paying close attention. Eventually going to do a 48v 280ah bank... saving up.
Yep dude proud of you, lot of times when I have a question I go to your videos, I wish you more success than I could ever dream of you deserve it
Great review. I'm mesmerized by your vids each and every time. Can't wait for the next. Thx.
Are you able to do a review and tear down of the EcoFlow Delta Pro? It's being promoted all over RUclips. There is a lot of hype right now. Thank you!
He just got it in hand a couple weeks ago and I’m sure he’s just putting it though it’s paces before making a video on it.
Awesome video. Straight and to the point. I like that you don’t add all the fluff. And as always, full of great information.
They certainly ought to add the BT module - it's just a few bucks and would be a worthwhile added cost.
I bet you can find a bluetooth module and hook into the existing connector. so even more money saved if you feel like partially tearing your own battery apart
@@SpeakersIsGod sure that the BT module is about $8 on AliExpress, but I would guess that the builder could include it for a couple of bucks.
@@RevM got a link ?
So happy with my 206AH SOK. Been working it in a camper van for a couple months. For the price I can’t find a better looking item.
I have the 12v 206 amp hour SOK on pre-order thanks to this channel... supposed to ship end of July.....thanks for sharing!
Which year? ;)
Suggestions for the manufacturer (my two cents):
1. Ensure when the battery is turned up side down that the weight of the cells is supported by the case top directly - not transferred via the wires and terminals as apparently happened. This could be accomplished by high density foam pieces strategically placed on the cell tops. The BMS, wires and terminals should never take on any load even if the battery is dropped from a height upside down.
2. I disagree with attaching the temperature probe to a cell directly. A better attachment would be to a neutral heat sink like the battery support that neither contacts the case or battery cells directly. Why? You want to be able to detect low temp conditions before the mass of the cells are soaked to a low enough temperature to effect the sensor.
Hi Will, I wondered if you have ever done a review of Ritar. They are a huge Chinese battery manufacturer and I bought two RITAR Lithium Batteri 12V 200Ah (LiFePO4) BMS 100A, for about same price as SOK, and that is in Norway where this stuff is usually expensive. They look fine and work well, but being a sealed plastic unit I don’t dare open them up ;-). Great video as usual - I have learnt a lot from you.
Make the handles upside down so when you go to lift it, the handles swing ABOVE the case and your fingers don't get squashed.
Wow, you actually made them change the design. Epic Will. 👍 from Wales U.K. 🏴🔆🔆. Thanks for the video also. 😀
HI Will love your videos! Will you review the new ecoflow delta 5 please? I would like to see how it stacks up again goal zero and jackery of similar capacity. Maybe a review of all 3? May God bless you and your family!😁❤️
Thanks, Will! I will be getting two of those 206AH batteries end of July 2021. But will buy two more for a 48 volt battery bank (in series).
Looking forward to the follow-up which will help me make my decision.
Excellent video Will
I feel like you should open up your own solar company / battery company
I mean you can put all these jumps out of business if you just put the time and energy into it I remember when you're in the back of your van so yeah. Plus I'd buy your stuff
This is like, when we got more than what we expect 216AH that's cool Bro. 😊👍
It always feels good :D
I will wait for the 3rd SOK prototype video from you. Thankyou.
These aren't SOK, they're a copy. Will recommends the actual SOK batteries, and has affiliate links in the description.
@@malardjs Some other manufacturer who reached out to Will for a test.
I love this before and then style of video. Pretty dope
Right?! So cool to see the changes they made haha
Those are the same exact cells that are in all three of my SOK batteries. I thought my SOK's had EVE cells, but they have the same 45 degree deal as the CATL cells in this video.
I would love just to get my hands on that battery box.
We need an ammo box company to step up and start making boxes that are just the right size for 100 amp hour, 200 amp hour and 280 amp hour lifepo4 cells, including room for a BMS. I understand that Will doesn't care what it looks like when he's done and I don't care much about that either but when most people build something they want to end up with something attractive when they're done. I bet they could sell a bunch of them.
@@chadstanich4324 I found that a NOCO group 27 battery box (12.99 on HomeDepot or Amazon) holds 4 - 280AH cells and a BMS similar to the one in this video (120A), nicely.
@@peterrock2838 thanks, I actually have 4 280 amp hour cells I need to put in something. I will look into that.
Found a battery box that can accept 280ah cells and still have room for the BMS. And it has 12v sockets, usb ports and a 1000w built in pure sine wave inverter. Basically it's the no-brand version of Ardent/HardKorr, and if you slap a solar charge controller on top of it it would basically be a solar generator by itself.
@@RRyyas link!!
Just received my second SOK battery. Really nice batteries.
Any idea on those cases, sources for them? Those look great.
Just ran across a new lithium iron phosphate 100ah battery on Amazon that's $399 and would love it if you could do a teardown and review. It's called Zooms and says younger bolder stronger on the front. Thanks for everything you do Will!
I have it coming tomorrow
Great content. Quality information dense! Keep it up!
Have learned so much from you. Thanks so much for all you do.
Your so through in your work. Thank you
well....definitely dont route the wires over the edge of the support arm, looks like all of them are damaged due to the shipping issue. Interestingly enough, copying the SOK failed them here...their foam probably would have protected their wiring and even the balance wire. id say hold down clips for the batteries into the bottom of the case would be a good idea if they are actually free floating in there. Enjoying the channel Will.
Thanks Will👍👍
Will, Ever considered doing a review of the Patriot battery ? The ad's sound like a scam.
Hello Will. Glad you got the house! Have you ever wanted to build your own actual battery?
Thank goodness the updated their site with all those “ pretty pictures”:😁 great video.
You're doing the LORDS work here. I am inching closer to doing my first mini solar rollout for a pet project (Thanks to your knowledge that you so kindly impart upon us peasants), keep up the quality content!
SOK is your favorite cheap battery that is prebuilt. But your favorite battery is DIY. I'm thinking I may take that diy route on an upcoming project. But I would like things neat. I don't see battery cases available. Are they?
Thanks will🤙
if they're actually listening to your input, then i imagine they will be making a fortune, especially if they can beat the SOK price point. great video, hopefully they can improve what for the most part looks like a QA issue. the world needs more competition to promote progress :D
The bluetooth module is about $10 and available separately. Yes, that's a good BMS, better than the SOK. Fully capable of 150 amp charge and discharge.
I think they need the second C- cable though.
Problem is you void the warranty if you add the module yourself. There is tamper proof tape on the lid.
Will, great video! I have some KILOWATT LABS Sirius modules I am going to open up. If you want a look inside let me know. Thank you!
Will, good stuff. Have a challenge for you. The best LiPo system for a sailboat? Boats have to be seriously offgrid and have a high safety req. for fire. Could you do a video on your best recommendation for a LiPo Solar system for a sailboat? Parameters would be 1000w of solar and a battery system to handle it. Thanks.
Excellent video, as usual.
Another great video. Right now it's a toss-up between the SOK and the Valance batteries. Any comments between the two?
Shipping Damage the Cell Shifted Up in Shipping See the dents in the Wires on top of the Cell. Great videos and Keep them coming !!!! Love to See Some Gadgets to do an Energy Audit, Something that you place in the Breaker Panel you can See live Load usages of each Braker in the System. Just a Thought
jon
Awesome!!!thank you Will!!!👍👍😎
Hi Will , I think you might be interested in doing something a bit different like a 24 volt alternator using a voltage regulator to up the voltage to say 60 volts to drop the amps to protect the alternator and feed that into your charge controller in place of your solar panels at night or for an inexpensive BACKUP in winter months for those in different latitudes . That could be interesting . What do you think ?
You said it arrived upside down? Maybe that's where the broken and pinched wires are from. We're the cells floating around to where they contacted the bms when it flipped over? As always thanks 👍
They could definitely use some shoring up, but I wouldn't ding them too hard on the balance leads. Yours arrived upside-down with a bent main terminal - I'd pass that as "shipping damage." Maybe one of the improvements could be a better packing method, to better prevent death by logistics. 🤷♂️👍
Add the blue tooth 5.0 and a RS-232 would be nice.
Placing hard foam to protect the terminals from shipping damage
Will, thanks for all that you enlighten us with. You're an impressive man. Would you please cover Dakota Lithium batteries. Bought 2 and I'm somewhat regretful in doing so.
Lol dont stray away from the Will Train!
I just love this chanel.
I've been asking the same question many times in the comment section and I have never received a response. I'm really close to just throwing in the towel and continue to run all of my estate, business, and rentals on gass and dirty power.
I wanted to run a 300ah 12 lithium ion battery in a geothermal greenhouse, but I might scratch the entire project and go coal
Thanks Will. Like #3.7K+
Nicely done. Like the channel. We have a different idea of what cheap means.
You should do a video on you current favorite tools (meters, crimpers, other tools someone should get when they are starting out)
I have a video about that. And tool recommendations on my site
Always excellent
3rdprototype - strap the cells down and strain-relieve the balance leads...
The unit needs to be able to be inverted without damage ( even if it really should be mounted right side up for optimal electrolyte distribution.)
Hi Will, thanks for all the videos. Very useful! Greetings from Argentina. What is the name of the software/equipment you use to test the battery? Thanks!
I'm really enjoying your videos, and I feel like I'm learning a lot. I'm not sure if you've tested a Wagan Power cube 1500, and I bought one several years ago, and looking to try to incorporate it into a sufficient solar power system that extends beyond it's normal set up. In other words, I don't want to buy additional parts that might already be built in, nor do I want to over-extend the unit capabilities... to the point where I can't put all of the smoke back in.
Hey Will, can you make a video on the EMP Shield solar protection?
Great product review
Love your videos, I've learned so much from you. I always wanted to build a small landscape lighting setup with solar only. Any ideas, or can you build one to show how its done? keep up the good work.
Another Great helpful video....Keep it up!! BTW Can you do a solar panel wiring video? Thanks as Always!
Hey if you put the red banner at the bottom we can't tell if we already watched your video or not so we might pass it by just wanted to let you know love your videos
If it gets a good review it will be sold out for months. Way to go.
Did you want a bad review so you can all you want? :)
@@ItsMe-mc9tl she’s giving Will a compliment. Every good review product is sold out in minutes.
@@ItsMe-mc9tl just stating fact. Will does a good review then it sales out quick. I have DIY batteries they’re much cheaper.
No! Just tell me it's good not the rest of the world!
Hahaha!
Hey, I have a 12V starter battery for a watercraft with a bad cell. Around 18-23 AH equivalent. I find it strange that no one is selling bad LiFePO4 starter batteries or parts. Pouch cell almost square.
I think it's hilarious switching from the hair style in the video as time progressed in the same video hahah. Also ripping off SOK!!
thanks for the review - very informative! I've gotten mixed information about placing this battery Under the hood - as the 2nd or house battery in a dual battery setup. I have 4/0 cables going to the bed of my tacoma so I'm not worried about voltage drop, but just wondering if the LiFepo4 can be placed under the hood.
You can check out Fly Power through Amazon 48 volt 100 amp battery. Also check out with Scream Power through eBay 48 volt 100 amp battery as in same looks to outside of battery housing.
Totally love your RUclips channel. You’ve taught me a ton. I bought some 206 amp our S OK is. So far they’re a mess because the app is not reading correctly at all. And one of them is losing a charge… The place where I bought them says run them through two cycles and see what happens. What do you think of that?
Have you fixed the battery? These chinese things seem not that great
Love this guy's videos!
I'm torn between chin's 300ah, or 200ah sok.
I've been using the 300ah chins for the past several months and no complaints. Just put a small heat pad under it for winter heating if it will be in a cold location.
Great, we like pretty pictures.
No bullshit channel. ❤️
I do love this site
It seems hard to find lithium batteries that can be put in series. All of them seem to have bms inside.
Can you please consider also posting your videos on Rumble. Leaving utube due to un-American censorship. Thanks
Question are SOK 100AH batteries good enough to reccomend buying them? I was looking at Dakota and Amped but came across your amaing tear downs. Thanks!
What could they improve? At 2.00 in your vid, you say these are not serviceable, you can't swap out a bad cell. There you go, that is what they should do.
Yes they should fix those leads!
Hi! I’m new to your channel, and I live in Vegas as well :). I’m new to solar and pretty clueless. I want to get started with a portable unit e.g. bluetti, jackery etc. but I was hoping for you expertise to point me in the right direction. Was thinking of something in the ballpark of 2000-3000 watts? Something for shtf :) anything that can handle a portable a/c? The video you did with your trailer gave me the impression probably not…any advise would be greatly appreciated! Ps loved your rant video - it was awesome
Any reason you dont recommend the Signature Solar EG4 LiFePower4 batteries? 32 cents a WH for the EG4 vs 42 cents a WH for the SOK? Also the EG4 is rack mountable making it far easier to create a good installation.
Hey Will, I just love watching all your reviews on technology. I am going to purchase the Chins 12volt 100AH Lithium Battery, Built-in 100A BMS, 2000+ Cycles, Each battery Can Support 1280W Power Output that you reviewed previously. Do you have any recommendations for a battery charger for this type of battery. Thank you.
Victron, but you'll have to be more specific on "battery charger". Solar, DC to DC, AC to DC an inverter with built in charger etc
@@mrmotofy i will be using the battery to power a 12v frig that uses approx. 5 amps per hour and when and the battery depletes down to say 50%, will charge back up with a battery charger
I have purchased several chins 100ah. A great charger for the price is the 10A charger from Dakota lithium. Otherwise any lithium battery charger works.
I have a question, can a guy still build a battery cheaper than buying an SOK battery? Thanks Will for another great video.
Where can I get the BMS so I can replace the one that came with my SOK? I’d love to be able to view each cell individually. Maybe SOK will upgrade their BMS to compete?
I'm considering some 48V 5.21W EG4 brand 100Ah batteries for a grid tied backup.
Do you have any experience with this brand and battery?
Seem to be sold and assembled by Signature Solar. These are not UL listed so getting utility companies to accept them for interconnect agreement may be a problem.
Any advice would be helpful.
Great video and so helpful
I am surprised by the low maximum charge rate of 50 amps for even their 206 amp model of the SOK. Is it the same for the knockoff?
Spoke with the US Distributor of SOK. They said the Batteries are on 5 Weeks Backorder.
LED readout would be nice on the product lid or side, or....on your phone with BT.That way they are ahead of the competition...especially if they come in 10% lower cost with a better BMS. No brainer = BUY BUY BUY
