I really loved the very first videos with Josh on your RUclips channel and was super excited when you two guys announced the podcast. Even though I'm a little sad you guys stopped the podcast, I want to say thanks for your content which was always entertaining and truly an enrichment! Hope to see you two on the RUclips channel together every now and then 😄

What I really liked was this was a chance for Feli to be herself. I know there are a few unscripted FFG videos (still waiting for the next Q&A 😜) but Josh seems to bring out something appealing in her personality when they are just talking. I hope to see Josh as a guest on future FFG videos from time to time, All the best to Feli and Ben and to Josh and his "SO" whomever he may be.

Feli and Josh, thank you very much for all the effort you both have put into that podcast and for allowing us to peek into your life and those of your guests.
It's been particularly interesting to get some impressions about Cincinatti, ie something different from the typical New York, Florida or California experience. Also it's been very interesting to hear about Josh's experiences with adapting to Life in Germany as a US citizen.
I'm certainly looking forward to your future special editions of "Understanding Trainstation".
Good luck and good success and lots of happiness to both of you.

I have listened to every single episode, starting with the first one, beginning till the end and mostly in the middle of the night: I used to listen to Feli’s videos when my daughter - born early 2020 - was awake at night, nursing her in the dark room add waiting for her to fall asleep again. Your podcast and Feli’s channel helped me stay mentally sane in years of sleep deprivation because the nights were at least entertaining. But your podcast also helped me a lot to better understand my coworkers from all around the world and how they might perceive their lives as immigrants in Germany. Danke für euren tollen Podcast! Ich hoffe wir können euch auch in Zukunft noch ab und zu zusammen erleben!

Finally summon the courage to catch up with the last episode of Understanding Train Station.
It actually ended 8 months ago and i was like, as long as i don't watch it, there will always be a new episode there.
But the end is the end. It's time to move on.
Thanks for the companionship when i was living through my toughest time.A new release of episode had always made my day.
For sure, it wasn't some kind of blockbuster program, but it meant a lot to me. It's an end to a period but there will always be new journey to begin.
Keep the good work and see you later.

I was a subscriber to Feli’s channel (with the old name) before the creation of UTS. I remember the UTS channel being announced, but for some reason I didn’t start watching until several episodes were already posted, but this allowed me to binge. From the first couple episodes the statement of “this episode is really long” was a common theme, to which my thought was “I could listen to this for another hour or 2.” Your chemistry together was perfect, which made it very easy to watch and want more. I love learning about how things work in other countries and this was always a fun podcast to watch/listen. It’s sad to see it end, but I understand and appreciate the time and work it took to put it together and I wish you both luck in the future.

I'm going to throw in a "Cincinnati + German' story' that I heard recently.
This anecdote came from a RUclips video that features the reading of German POWs' diaries when they came to the US.
A trainload of German POWs was travelling across the US to their final camp destination. As they approached the city, the American guard pointed out the window and said to the Germans "Cincinnati."
    One German responded "Nein!"
The guard was flustered and again said "Cincinnati!" and the German answered "Nein!" once again.
The writer explained that the German thought the guard was saying "Sind sie Nazi?" (Are you a Nazi?) and he wanted to make sure he wasn't confused with an actual Nazi.

    • @joegoss30
      @joegoss30 Год назад +1

@@UnderstandingTrainStation As best I can tell, yes. I heard it on a RUclips channel and it came from a diary or a later memoir of a German POW who was held in the US. I don't remember which video specifically, but there are many videos on RUclips that are taken from these POW diaries as they were held in the US. (You especially hear the difference in the ranks between the hard-core Nazis and the average German soldier or sailor).
I could probably find the video if you want to confirm it (understanding that the source material may not be particularly specific).

My experience of Croatia. Many years ago I was in a tour party in Slovenia, when Slovenia was an EU state and Croatia was not. We took a day trip into Croatia and dropped in at the seaside town of Rovinj on the Istrian peninsula. Our (Slovenian) guide told us quickly what was where (go that way to see x, go that way to see y) and we were left to our own devices because she was not permitted to 'work' in Croatia. Subsequently she was arrested by the local tourist police (supposedly for working unlicensed) and basically held for ransom - we had to shell out 100euros to get her released. It was a total disgrace. As for Rovinj, it was a picturesque coastal town (low-key tourist trap) and of course you expect that prices will be hiked just for that reason, but honestly.... The prices in local bars and cafes were ASTRONOMICAL. Even worse than in Trieste (Italy), which was pretty awful but somewhat expected. Some of my party were older and seasoned travellers (and also not poor), but even they were shocked. For reference, we were staying at a 5-star hotel in Portoros for that part of our tour - Slovenia's Monte Carlo where the cars on the roads went Porsche-Bentley-Ferrari-Lamborghini-Ferrari-Rolls Royce-Bentley-Lamborghini-Bentley-VW-Rolls Royce-Ferrari (maybe one 'ordinary' car in ten) - really not a 'poor' place - and Rovinj was more expensive.
For counterpoint, the border between Slovenia and Croatia could be quite intense. If you were in a Croatian-plated vehicle, you would be held up for a long time while Slovenian border police took your vehicle to pieces, just to cause maximum inconvenience. We (British) rolled up at the border and as soon as the police knew that we were British, we were waved through in literally seconds flat - one message relayed by our guide was "we love you, but why on earth do you want to go into Croatia?". No love lost between Slovenia and Croatia anyway.
