    Here's a suggestion: When Josh is in Cincinnati or Feli is in Munich invite Josh to be a guest on FFG and you two just talk for around 15 minutes or so, like you do at the beginning of each podcast episode. No topic needed.

    Dear Feli, dear Josh, Very sad hearing about you plans to discontinue the podcast. It was for several years part of my weekly routine. I watched all episodes you two released up to now and will do till this yourney will come to its end. Instead of closing it down you could keep it alive in loose order. An idea could be to do once in awhile an episode when you both meet in person either in Cincinnati or Munich. However, I can see the reasons and understand you decision to bring it to an end, considering all the efforts and time commitments go into it.

    Definitely gonna miss Feli and Josh 😢 I was an exchange student in Germany and from where I come from, the US almost equal the whole western culture! That’s why I always love listening to your podcast to know a little bit more about both countries! And not to mention that your voices are just the perfect match for me to enjoy learning day to day “real world” English conversations but also some German words/phrases that I used to hear while I was in Germany. Hope you would consider redirecting the UTS podcast style to casual chat or monthly/biweekly live updates, no topics required!! All the best from Taiwan ❤

    I am from Austria and it's very interesting to hear your perspective.. I would instinctively also say that Austria and Germany are really close but Austria is a little closer to the U.S. BUT i can't agree with the politically more conservative opinion. Germanys CDU/CSU is quite the same as our ÖVP, maybe the ÖVP a little more conservative and at the moment both the AFD and FPÖ are quite high in polls, and i think the FPÖ is a little more moderate than AFD, which is clearly rechtsextrem. Nevertheless, people in rural areas in Austria are especially conservative thinking and acting, I don't really know if this is the case in Germany...
    Laws are quite the same in Austria and Germany, culture is quite the same, public transport is quite the same (not good in rural areas, but the ÖBB was or is more punctual than the DB). maybe gun laws should should be stricter in Austria, so this is where it is closer to the U.S.? And another difference: Paying cashless is getting more common in Austria, whereas in Germany I'm still stranded without cash.
    Because you were talking about curse words: In Austria they are reserved for adults, children are not allowed to curse and you should not curse in front of children

  • @MarcGrafZahl
    @MarcGrafZahl Год назад +2

    Oh, what a pity! But I can understand that, at one point, all the cultural differences are already explained, and if you don't want to make social media your primary occupation, like in Josh's case, you just cannot invest so much time to invent new things.
    BUT having said this, you just cannot leave the stage without having had a session with ARAMIS MERLIN, a German actor in Los Angeles who has a fantastic RUclips-channel (in German though). An episode with him would be really great.

    I am Anglo American and I used to live in Berlin ,then I moved to Klagenfurt in Austria. It was quite surprised about how similar certain aspects of at least Carinthian life are to the US. It was remarkable how many people there, even young people were deeply religious, quite nationalist in mindset (especially about Slovenia minorities and South Tirol) and disagreed with things such as abortion. My girlfriend at the time was from there and another pretty shocking thing was the fact that her Dad just gave us a gun, just in case he said (it was during the refugee crisis in 2015 - her Dad was kind of Racist). It just lived in the closet and probably still does. I now live in Salzburg and it's a lot more cosmopolitan and liberal minded. I kind of think Austria is like five countries, Austria proper which is Lower and upper Austria, Burgenland and Wien. Styria and Carinthia which are very religious (at least outside Graz), very very right wing (FPÖ). Salzburg which is basically Germany. Tirol which loves Bavaria and South Tirol more than the rest of Austria and Vorarlburg which is basically Switzerland.

    I've heard "shoot" a couple of times suspecting the person actually wanted to say something more drastic.
    Swabian insults: Grasdackel, Heudackel, Schoofseckel (Schafseckel), Halbseckel (caution, that's serious), Dipfelesscheisser, ... just a few, there's at least one dictionary of Swabian insults.
    Curse words: Hainomool, Himmelnomool (Himmel nochmal), Scheibenhonig (instead of Scheibenkleister)
    A word of caution: yes in every day situations you can hear people curse or use insults. It's often done by young people and possibly more often in towns and cities. However tolerance depends on environment and situation. Some insults can be used friendly, but that depends very much on context and relations between persons. As soon as you're in a more formal environment and particularly whenever you're not sure how it might be received I'd seriously recommend avoiding curse words and insults.

    You really don't have to end your podcast. There are so many other guests that you could have on and more topics to cover. Maybe just take a break or space out your podcasts. Don't be like the Seekers, the quartet of Australian folk singers where the female vocal singer split off suddenly with little notice. Their fans were crushed when they heard the news. Fortunately they got back together later and stayed together. I think their song, Georgie Girl was one of their most famous hits. But anyway your podcast will be missed. You do put on such a positive, informative and entertaining podcast.

    Concerning your comments about English and how people often use the wrong spelling of a word. I love language, and this is something that really bugs me. You mentioned using "should of." Most likely, the intention was "should've. " Or the long way should have." Part of the problem is voice to text. The device sometimes uses the wrong spelling and people are too lazy to check and correct. I've often thought about learning German. Maybe someday, eh? Take care.

    I wouldn’t mind if before calling the podcast wrapped, you would quickly finish the little task of interviewing guests from each country there is. 😊
    Well, seriously, why would you end the podcast terminally? If you were going to record new episodes from tome to time, maybe just a few per year, that would be much nicer than declaring an end to it. And let’s be honest, you would be missing it, too.

I heard it from British girl (she's really good at swearing, real specialist 😁) The collocation is, "Crist on a bike" it's like a phrase to express surprise or frustration. Or there's another one, "Holly Molly" (this one I believe originally from the US) I guess it has more or less the same meaning with the aforementioned expression. Toodle-oo.
