And respect to where Bacharach got this music from. Not many people know a Venezuelan jazz composer named Aldemaro Romero was experimenting with a fusion between jazz and Venezuelan folk music which he named ONDA NUEVA or NEW WAVE during the 1960's. He sent a master tape to Bacharach of a recording he had made a few months before the music score was included in The Butch Cassidy film. Burt was so delighted with this musical genre he made a few arrangements to record a piece which could fit in some scenes and the rest is history. Bacharach named it SOUTHAMERICAN GETAWAY not only because the film's scenes were portraying Bolivia but also as a tribute to Romero's contribution. Heil to Bacharach and Romero.
Some of my favourite toonz and what a beautiful version , really enjoyed this guys , have not heard these tracks for soO long , what a delightful sonic treat , Thank you ;D standing Ovation , hats off to you , from over here in Cornwall , UK
This is REALLY well done! Bravo!!! I enjoyed this interpretation as much as I did seeing the movie as a 14 year old kid. Burt Bacharach has been, and is, a national treasure.
I've thought this was a cool song when I first heard it on the soundtrack album way back when I was too young to see the movie (I was 7 in 1969), but have always wanted to see it performed. This was awesome!
A commendable live performance as this is a very tricky song to sing with the complicated harmonies. But it lacks good balance between the parts and some occasional tuning of the voices. BUT, it's live (!), so well done.
Not nearly that pretty - those lips, those eyes. And then Paul Newman and Robert Redford. That movie hit like an asteroid on an unsuspecting world in 1969.

I would like some information on these Swingtones, are they a band or just a one off project? Googled and couldn't find anything resembling them in the U.S
This seems to be a common mistake, but the film version for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" of South American Getaway was by the Ron Hicklin Singers, a group of Los Angeles-based studio singers. Not to take anything away from the Swingle Singers which were - and are - a magnificent group in itself. (Edit) BTW it is very well possible that the Swingle singers have this song on their set list too, but as far as I know they usually sing purely a capella without support of a band which makes this song very difficult to perform.
"Now I had always thought that this part of the soundtrack was by The Swingle Singers, that a cappella group that seemed to pop up with great regularity on Saturday night telly in the 1970s, but no, South American Getaway was by the Ron Hicklin Singers, a group of Los Angeles-based studio singers." jukeboxtimemachine.com/tag/butch-cassidy-and-the-sundance-kid/
jeez c'mon.....one of the female singers doesn't care! she's much louder, not balanced nor harmonizing....pay attention!! You know,(I know) who you are...what a waste of a great composition. oh yeah, I forgot...Joe's Pub.
Seems to me the two ladies in the middle are fighting for space...it is so obvious just the way they look at each other... They just ruined everybody else's hard work
Nobody has even ever heard of this "the swingles" that your talking about. The actual original singers on this Burt Bacharach classic were called The Ron Hicklin Singers. And I never heard of the Ron Hicklin Singers EVER doing this song live anyways. Ron Hicklin Singers were most famous for doing the background vocals for the television show music for the TV show The Partridge Family.
TheDudeOutfHisElemen . You are correct. I am talking about the Swingle Singers. Look them up on youtube. Founded by the late Ward Swingle. One of the greatest vocal ensembles ever.
I looked them up and what I found sounded great. I found one titled 'Libertango' that was great. I couldn't find them doing :South American Getaway" though. I hope somebody can post this Swingles doing the song. I'm sure they would do it excellent. If you ever find a link to them doing this song then please post it. The other material I'm hearing by them though is great. Thanks for referring them!
I have fallen in love with this music all over again. Ah the 1970s what a great decade for music.
Yo! Respect to these young people for keeping this music alive. Burt Bacharach the genius.
Excellent and RIP Burt.❤️
Excellent!!! Takes me back to when the film came out ...
Rest In Peace, Maestro Bacharach.
I don't know what fantasy world I live in but, I didn't think about him ever passing away.

My god I love this, such a tremendous tribute to the original 1969 Burt Bacharach production
What a great performance! I'm especially impressed with the level of talent these folks need to pull THAT song off.
Excellent performance of an exciting (not to mention difficult) piece!
Wow, I love this particular song, and this is a very nice version ! Cudos for even attempting it...
Yup.
Whenever I see/hear a performance like this by folks half my age, I have a glimmer joy for musicians of this century.

Burton bacharach was the greatest
Tough song to do outside of the studio. Excellent.
If the guys had worn roll neck sweaters and side partings it would have been perfect.
One Day I’m gonna be there !
A commendable live performance as this is a very tricky song to sing with the complicated harmonies. But it lacks good balance between the parts and some occasional tuning of the voices. BUT, it's live (!), so well done.
Thank you. It was, indeed, hard as hell! lol
Kudos to you singers and the band! That is a very VERY difficult tune to perform all the way through live !
Damn that was good!!!
Ace absolutely love this.
BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I think you'll find it would be hard enough for the 'originals' to perform this live. 10/10
Brilliant !.
Burt the legend. Like butch...
Great job.

ITS THE 4 WOMEN THAT TRULEY MAKE THIS SONG WONDERFUL . THE LAST GUY ON THE END ACTS LIKE TO MUCH EXPRESSO !

Don't skip the monitoring onstage, for pitch tweaking in the vocal parts.

Nice try. Hard to do the Swingles stuff, especially 'live'.
