Or find a VERY bouncy horse. I learn sitting trot on the bounciest horse I have ever ridden. And I must say it makes sitting trot on all the other horses a lot easier in comparison
if you would look at what her legs are doing. (most of the time) her legs arent just flopping around like noodles, they are giving aids. look at her heels and calves, they are making contact with the horse. the horse might be lazy and need constant pressure/reminder to keep pace, we have all ridden that kind of horse at least once in our lives :P. so she's not riding the sitting trot badly, she's probably riding the sitting trot how she needs to.
snowbunnycare It’s giving cues, in dressage you should barely see simple cues like that. They’re also allowing the horses suspension to go through both the seat and the ankle.
These aren't cues and this isn't dressage work. She's a wonderful rider but she needs to learn how to keep her legs still and off the horse when it's doing something correctly. Repeatedly, kicking into your horse's sides like that gets you a lazy horse. Not the other way around. Even if she were, you don't kick a horse to go, you slightly increase the pressure with your foot until the horse complies. Again, I'm not hating or insulting anyone. I'm just saying that it's something she should try and fix.
Its_BlueberryMuffin She was giving cues as well as allowing her heels to take the suspension rather than her body. If you watch ANY dressage rider you’ll see their heels move. Rather i’d be slightly or a lot. It depends on the horse. Some horses give more suspension than others.
One of the best bits of advice I can ever give anyone as well is have somone film you riding. It helps massively. I see how tense I look at times and think urgh!😁
Its kind of weird for me... I am able to do sitting trot without stirrups / on bareback but am unable to do it with stirrups..... Any tips for me? Great video btw
Same!!! I will be just fine without stirrups or bareback but when it comes to with stirrups I bounce, I think its because we use our feet to keep us steady not absorbing the shock. Thats my guess
I love your videos!!! So often we talk about riding with lightness but most people are so heavy and serious. You must have many happy horses - lightness starts with the person - you are awesome±!!!!
Indeed, ouch! :/ With the horses I ride most often with, I usually wait a little while after getting the bridle away from behind the ears. Most horses are smart enough to open their mouth to get rid of the bit, haha
Wow we do those exercises at our riding school!!! You can really get a feel for horse! Cantering without reins is always fun, especially trying to stop the horse from going back to the other horses :P
I hate doing sitting trot. Posting might make you more sore afterwards but it hurts my back a lot to be bouncing so much. And my horse has trouble staying in a trot when I am sitting.
Abbey Grace omg I know this used to happen to me all the time! I finally learned how to sit the trot and I hope it helps you! first off it helped me to ride with longer stirrups so I could wrap my legs around the horse to sort of pull myself into the saddle I guess. then sit up straight so that your back doesn't wiggle around which is what caused mine to hurt, I don't know if its the same for you :) I hope this helps, good luck!
I feel you! It hurt my back for awhile too but eventually it got stronger and I was able to hold my back stronger. I’ve always had cue problems in the trot too, riding stirrup-less helped me quite a bit with that.
abbeymakesthings I'd recommand you a little daily workout routine to stretch your back and strengthen your muscles (abs and back). Maybe also work on the flexibilty around the hips, to follow the horse's gait more easily and better absorb the shock. I've been doing it myself to improve my position and it's done wonders. If your back still hurts, you should probably take an appointment to get it checked - maybe a vertebrae moved and needs to be put back in place. O:
when i first started riding for real, the riding camp taught me how to saddle up and all, but they didnt give clear instructions. apparently, i have done things right form the start :) Now it's just left to master the gallop on big horses since im too big for ponies :) Your videos have helped me alot! :D
Really cool videos, may I suggest maybe shortening the effects between the 'shout outs' and 'tips of the day'? I find they linger a bit too long than they should. Other than that, really looking forward to getting back in the saddle as soon as I can to practice all these things i've been learning!
this really helped, because i have a 4 year old mare called italy and she has a huge trot and she lifts her legs really high up and she hasn't got a very comfortable seat, and this helped a lot with it, because my trainer said that I'm doing much better and i asked my trainer if i could do the lungeing excersise and it helped alot, people out the who want to learn, you should really do this excerises they, really help your seat, xx
one thing u didnt mention is u must keep ur pelvis/hips opened and in neutral. if ur pelvis is tilted forward (hips closed) arch in the back then its going to be very hard to follow ur horses movement. great video!
Love all your vids! :) Wish I lived closer to your barn even in the same state so could train with SchrammEquestrian!!! Can you guys do a video with tips about keeping your leg still especially over fences?
great video. I have a lot of issues with my sitting trot, especially when working on not posting when going into the canter. but the girl in the tip of the day took the bridle off kind of roughly...
+Elite Equine Art True. I'm only starting riding horses (DREAM COME TRUE!!!) and the sitting trot is so damn easy for me. I never understand how people say it's hard....but ok , I guess. All of us have different abilities :3
+Elite Equine Art What's easy for y'all might not be easy for others. Everyone is different. It's like when one person said math is hard and another couldn't do math if their life depended on it. That's why you keep practicing until you get it...
***** You can lean back a little bit more than you would usually, and kind of sway with the horse a little, this helps a lot with me, since my horse has a bouncy trot.
I don't know how people learn riding in other countries, but in Germany we learn that from the beginning on... I've also learned to walk, trot and canter without stirrups pretty fast. I even think riding without stirrups is better and easier; with stirrups, I always tend to pull up my knees. Without stirrups, my legs stay way better on the horse's body and that's also how I learned to actually sit in the saddle and not always putting weight onto the stirrups to make it easier for me.
The only thing I learned in Germany when I was riding is how to do rollkur and make your horse miserable by showing who is boss and continuously kicking, hitting and yanking on the bit. The things you described I learned them in Hungary
I'm grateful for how damn patient school horses are every day. I know that I thumped around like a sack of potatoes for about 6 months before I could sit the trot acceptably, it was when my trainer let me use no stirrups. Is anyone else 300% better at sitting the trot with no stirrups? I find it so much easier
Thanks for this it was really helpful. I have had real difficulty staying on the saddle when doing rising trot. I will try these tips next time i ride. You have got another subscriber! :)
You two are amazing! I have been riding for ages and only started eventing this season, and you guys have helped me out so much! I LOVE watching your videos and you're both so sweet and funny :) xx
Got any ideas for a paraplegic who has to do a sitting trot and cannot use their legs for ANYTHING (like gripping)? I have a huge problem with leaning forward as soon as I begin bouncing (as I bounce side to side and where ever my body takes me). I end up holding onto the saddle for support. (I ride with a leader when I trot)... and sometimes a sidewalker or two. I have no confidence whatsoever holding my reins due to the fact I bounce so much.
i find that sitting trot without stirrups is easier than with stirrups but i tend to pull the reins even if my position is good but these were very useful thanks for the advice
my friend taught me to relax my lower back and with the other riding things with back straight shoulders square and keep your hands under control i can do it.
The song sounds like an instrumental version of "Love Will Tear Us Apart," by Joy Division, though I could be wrong. Love these vids. The music in the intro is great too.
so to sit the trot better should we find pressure in our lower leg to grip better when riding the sitting trot?? Newbie here taking lessons and want to learn more!
Wow, nothing but negative comments, if you don't like their advice don't use it and don't watch it.... Man these people are only trying to help make you a better rider.....
I actually prefer sitting trot I hate posting. However I have a problem losing my outside stirrup. Honestly I am more comftorable without stirrups and when I do lose one it doesn't mess me up. I can trot canter and jump without them. My outside leg I think is shorter as the stirrup always jiggles out from my foot while the other is perfect. I tried going up a notch in the problem leg but it's to short. It also makes posting miserable as I'm uneven.
Oops should have included my outside leg when I'm going clockwise around the ring. I've been reading people with this problem have one leg with more muscle. i still prefer a sitting trot and even more on a gaited horse
+fernando torrera you need too place a hole between the holes n notch it up there... stirrup lengths are hard to adjust but once you find it you wont look back
I would love a video on how to use leg to keep a horse in line before, during, and after a jump line. I was taught incorrectly at my first barn, when I moved to my current one, i was stuck with a bad habit
When you are videotaping, can you show the rider when you are talking about the tips? It would make it easier to see if you could do the closeups on the rider as opposed to the speaker. Love all the tips! Thanks.
i am glad to watch this video because tomorrow i have a assesment for my horse riding i hope i am in 2 class my mom hope i am in 3 class i am not really sure if 2 class have the jumps means the time you jump so please reply me if the 2 class have the jumps. My spelling for assesment could be wrong sorry :)
I can't say I agree with the bit thing, but the rest of the video was nice! My lesson pony opens her mouth when she feels he bit start to come down, so I don't bump her teeth. But in some cases, she decides that herb it tastes delicious and she never wants to let It go.
Eleni Sta if you are a rider, I wouldn't recommend a sitting gallop: while the horse is going at it's fastest pace, your supposed to raise over the withers to take strain off their back. It could really damage their back. If your meaning canter, (walk, Trot, canter) then simply put your heels down and sit deep in the saddle. I really hope this helped ❤️
This isn't about the sitting trot, but I have a problem with my cantering. I can get a good seat for a couple of seconds and then I starting bouncing. My legs are really good when it comes to it, but my hips and core don't. How would you do to help you from bouncing so much? ( I also lean too forward)
I have the same issue. it's just building up the muscle to hold yourself in the saddle. Riding without stirrups helps. And also, if your horse has a strung out canter, it can help if you try and help your horse engaged from the hind end, because if he/she is heavy on the forehand, it can be less comfortable :)
your heel helps a lot with that! try cantering without stirrups! its so natural. then try it with the stirrups. the more weight in your heel, the better.
I just started riding lessons and going into the trot for the first time on a lung line and I feel like I am getting thrown all over the place, I have such a hard time staying in the seat that I have to hold the horn of the (western) saddle and if I were to not be on a lunge line I would not be able to use my legs to tell the horse where do go because I don't have much control of my legs while in the trot. Any advice?
What I normally do is that I lean back and have a deeper seat and I usually dig my heals down a little more (I would recommend doing this, if you lean forward like I do I would also recommend leaning back while doing the sitting trot. Or else your ride in the sitting trot will become very uncomfortable)
I need to work on this because I always feel like I'm hurting my horse. I feel so bad because he's so patient and I'm this impatient idiot...😂
Sameeeee😂
Same, I ride this super patient schooly a lot and he's a dream but then when I try it with my own (semi-leased) he is over with me in a second xD
I do as well because my horse trot is so loud i cant even sit
Or find a VERY bouncy horse. I learn sitting trot on the bounciest horse I have ever ridden. And I must say it makes sitting trot on all the other horses a lot easier in comparison

would help to have the camera focus on the rider as Dom is speaking rather than just on Dom.
One of the best bits of advice I can ever give anyone as well is have somone film you riding. It helps massively. I see how tense I look at times and think urgh!😁
+Agui007 It really helps! Also when you think you sit awfully and then see yourself on video and it doesn't look as bad as it feels!
Ikr! I like it when I get filmed or someone takes pictures. It helps me figure out what's wrong and how I could correct it.
Same! I look at my heels and die!
lol love all the pony club riders thinking they know better than a 3* eventer. crack up.
Ikr lol 😂
Its kind of weird for me... I am able to do sitting trot without stirrups / on bareback but am unable to do it with stirrups..... Any tips for me?

I love your videos!!! So often we talk about riding with lightness but most people are so heavy and serious. You must have many happy horses - lightness starts with the person - you are awesome±!!!!
Tip of the day ... when you take your horses bridle off, first make sure you don't take his teeth out with the bit. Appalling.
I"m not too keen on getting my bridle wet where it holds the bit on every day...../
Yeah seriously!! That noise made me cringe! Hold the bridle up and let them know so that they don't get their teeth bumped! Ouch!
Indeed, ouch! :/ With the horses I ride most often with, I usually wait a little while after getting the bridle away from behind the ears. Most horses are smart enough to open their mouth to get rid of the bit, haha

Whenever I get bouncy in my sitting trot my trainer makes me ride with no stirrups and no reins on the lounge line, it's really hard but effective!
when i first started riding for real, the riding camp taught me how to saddle up and all, but they didnt give clear instructions. apparently, i have done things right form the start :) Now it's just left to master the gallop on big horses since im too big for ponies :) Your videos have helped me alot! :D

my old trainer used to make me do lunge line lessons with no stirrups or reins for months at a time, it was torture but it helped so much
great quality and quite adorable!
and that horse. stunning!

Love the Switchfoot intro!! Meant to Live is a great song!!
Omg I just found this after 2 years! Luv it!
this is also an awesome way to improve your position in the saddle!
Uh oh Pony Club would frown upon the loops with your lounge line! ;)
Thanks for doing this. I used to ride a stubborn lesson horse who had a really really smooth gait to a bouncy willing pony
I can imagine my trainer now yelling at us that our legs are so bad and having us do 10 mins of stirrup-less sitting trots. Yowch.

Love this! Maybe you could do a tutorial on teaching horse flying change, lengthening the trot, and lateral work?
This really helped when I was doing sitting trot with my horse Lucy
Tell that groom of yours when she takes the bridle off to take care not to hit the horses teeth like this. Kappa
Right Tho?
I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm really glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.
Kappa? What does that mean?
this vid has helped me a lot with my sitting trot. thanks!

so to sit the trot better should we find pressure in our lower leg to grip better when riding the sitting trot?? Newbie here taking lessons and want to learn more!
if you're talking about the intro song, it's Meant to Live by Switchfoot :)
Can you do one like this only with galloping? I am having a hard time with that.....
Please make one it would be so helpful!!!
Wow, nothing but negative comments, if you don't like their advice don't use it and don't watch it.... Man these people are only trying to help make you a better rider.....
I know right?!?!! Some of these people are just straight up stupid.
loverly looking horse in the video :D thank you, it was really helpful - now i can do a novice dressage test in sitting trot :) x
Gorgeous horse!! Great video

Lol Bellamy. What a good boy :)
Thanks, guys! Definitely trying these tricks out.
Could you guys do one on how to rev up a lazy horse? I always need to grab a crop before riding my lesson horse.
oh my gosh i love you guys you are literally my insperation can you do a videp on how to prep for a jump
????????
I find this account amazingly helpful
Can you demonstrate on a friesian with a bouncy trot? I feel like mine is impossible to sit.
Can you make a video on how to slow your horses trot and canter?
This helped me a lot! Thanks for the tips :-)
Thanks.
I love the intro music thing that you play in every video
i am glad to watch this video because tomorrow i have a assesment for my horse riding i hope i am in 2 class my mom hope i am in 3 class i am not really sure if 2 class have the jumps means the time you jump so please reply me if the 2 class have the jumps. My spelling for assesment could be wrong sorry :)
Defiantly learnt something!!! Thanks so much!!!😄😁
Princeaboo, these are awesome free videos, maybe keep your negative comments to yourself. We are lucky to even have these videos!
Thank you so much! sitting trot is always so bouncy and I am sure that the will improve my position soo much :)
Omg love the song in the beginning!
Beautiful horse! whats its name??
Sunny AJ
and i would really like it if you would just get to the point
Please can you do a video on riding trot and how to improve it 🍀
I'm not an eventor(sorry bad english) but these vids are a lot of help for other riders too:)

Thank you! I really needed some exercises for improving my sitting trot. :)
you should do an "EQ" video? jumping position etc.. :)
This definitely will help me
with my sitting trot
i am working on sitting trot in riding class. it's hard to sit with out bouncing. thanks!
How did I not find these guys sooner?
Tips on stirrupless cantering please. I ride a pony with a funky canter and the only way i stay on her is by unintentionally pushing we with my seat.
Haha, thanks guys! When I do sitting trot I am literally a living sack of potatoes. This has helped! THANKS! Wow your new farm looks cool.
Thank you for this I can now do sitting trot with out bumping up and down :)
Can you make a video about sitting gallop?
Eleni Sta do u mean canter
Eleni Sta if you are a rider, I wouldn't recommend a sitting gallop: while the horse is going at it's fastest pace, your supposed to raise over the withers to take strain off their back. It could really damage their back. If your meaning canter, (walk, Trot, canter) then simply put your heels down and sit deep in the saddle. I really hope this helped ❤️
yes, I do mean canter indeed. In french canter is "gallop" and gallop is "grand gallop" an I got confused. Thank you!
This isn't about the sitting trot, but I have a problem with my cantering. I can get a good seat for a couple of seconds and then I starting bouncing. My legs are really good when it comes to it, but my hips and core don't. How would you do to help you from bouncing so much? ( I also lean too forward)

Any advice?
I tried to canter the other day and my sitting trot was all over so thanx for this video :-)
I Need to improve my sitting trot bareback. Any tips?
Thanks allot it helped me for 4-H and I learned it in a month same with the tip and i borrow a horse so i can't do it everyday
Can you please do how to improve your canter video thanks
I have a lot of trouble with a sitting trot , thanks for making this video nn
You're intros are the best xD
What do you prefer ,Trot or Gallop?
What I normally do is that I lean back and have a deeper seat and I usually dig my heals down a little more
(I would recommend doing this, if you lean forward like I do I would also recommend leaning back while doing the sitting trot. Or else your ride in the sitting trot will become very uncomfortable)
Thanks guys for putting this up:-) its very helpful.
That intro is EPIC
you should check out corral
I was doing sitting trotting yesterday
Interesting. I have a hard time with my sitting trot WITH my irons. I wish somebody could explain that.
Maybe your stirrups are too short or too long
I LOVE THE INTRO
