  • The time is come! The momentous 40,000 mi review. I purchased these tires less than a year ago, but I have really put some miles on these. And I have driven them to the stove, the rain, the slush, up snowy mountains, and through tropical storms and hurricanes. So I have put through these tires through the gamut, and I have not left me wanting.
    From the pros such as traction, performance, safety, control and drivability; to the negative such as fuel efficiency, road noise, price, and many other factors. These tires have been unique and the technology is amazing.

    I just had to come back to thank you again. I finally bought my tires about 6 weeks ago and I love em. I literally can’t get these things to spin, they have so much grip. I drive through a near torrential downpour, those famous North Carolina summer thunderstorms and felt comfortable the whole way. Great recommendation!

      Dude that's so cool! One because it helps me feel like I'm giving an honest opinion. But secondly because I'm experiencing the same things.
      Like I said earlier, I've been driving on the interstate where it was whiteout conditions and people were pulled over to the side of the road or driving 30 mph with your blinkers on.
      I literally can't make them slip. Even on normal conditions when I floor my vehicle or I turn hard to the left and floor it. I can't make them slip
      Very similar to you. I don't know if they're even able to slip.
      Happy you got a pair and I'm happy that you're enjoying them! Thanks for getting back with me brother

    A bit soft in high temps
    beastly in rain
    beastly in snow (they killed in 6 inches of snow in Tahoe no slipping ever)
    no wear at all at 10k

      It's so good to hear that some people agree with me lol. Sometimes I wonder if people worry about me being a sponsored person or paid for this. But I'm really just giving honest opinions. When I hear things like this, it lets me know that my opinions, however poorly communicated, or correct.
      These things are ridiculous in the rain and ridiculous in the snow. We must have been driving through lake Tahoe around the same time. But it was slushy when I was there. The real test came when I was driving in North Carolina in the blizzard. I've driven the same vehicle up in Mount Rainier with chains, and tires with chains suck. But I did not slip one time when I was in North Carolina. And I swear, I must been parking on 30° angle sometimes
      Finally showing a little bit of where at 40,000 mi, but it should not matter because they are full tread depth. The pattern still looks fantastic. Expecting to get at least 80,000 mi out of these

      No problem at all! That's what I'm here for!. Happy you got a little bit of use out of them. Honestly, if you're worried about safety and performance, there's nothing else besides them to consider.
      If your main focus was fuel efficiency, there are definitely some fuel efficient tires out there. And maybe if your focus was Price, there's definitely other things out there. But as far as safety and performance and ability to go, there's nothing like them.
      And also, there's not any downsides that would have any sort of meaningful impact on my opinion you know. It's not like the fuel or the sound or anything is so bad to where it makes a difference. These are just fantastic tires
      Would not be surprised if every tire falls this pattern in the future

      Hard to really promote a tire if you drive a SAWC Mitsubishi or any AWD Subaru. I live 23 miles from the nearest highway and an additional 8 miles on a gravel road with grades so steep that you are looking at the sky and can't see the road when you get to the top of the hill. Yet everyone here who has a Subaru or Mitsubishi doesn't even know what tires they have on there car. They just get in and go blizzard or no blizzard.

    I just put a set of these on our 2018 Subaru Crosstrek on 10/27/23 replacing the original Falken tires with 48,000 miles. I changed them myself, and not one of the four required the addition of any wheel weights to balance the wheel. Normally a tire has a paint dot on it to show the point that is the place most likely an out of balance point. These Michellins had no spot, telling me that the tire is very well balanced during manufacture. Part of that is probably that Subaru balances the wheel prior to putting a tire on. I wanted these tires for my wife as her reflexes are not what they used to be, so it is worth it to me to spend the extra money on the top rated tire. Let's face it, the price difference is only a couple hundred bucks more, and since I change them myself, that makes a big difference. I figured the price of these tires/60K miles, and it was like 1.5 pennies/mile. Totally worth it.
    So far we really like them, but the do make a little more noise on concrete highways versus asphalt, but it is totally minimal. And since the car has a tire pressure system, I did notice they got a little bit warmer and the tire pressure went up about 2 PSI, I assume due to them heating up a bit.
    We are looking forward to using these tires and rating them further. We are in Central Pa, so we do get some winter weather problems.

      You know that's actually something I've been saying since the first reviews I started doing these on. Almost instantly, I noticed certain aspects of these tires that I have never found on a set of tires before. And if you're putting them on something for somebody you love, and prices not an issue, then to me there's not really any choice but these.
      I live in Alabama, sorry to say, and we don't get a whole lot of snow. So I'm really not utilizing the three-peak snow rated capabilities of these tires unless I travel up into northern states or go to state and national parks up in the mountains. But one thing I can't deny is that they are fantastic and bad weather conditions. Specifically in the rain or the torrential rain or on wet streets or wet freeways.
      Like I said, I don't even know if they're really is a working traction control system on my vehicle anymore, because they don't slip. My old tires used to slip when conditions were dry and clean if I was going up a hill and turning left or if I punched the gas on a particularly steep hill. That hasn't happened anymore. And it definitely hasn't happened and wet conditions. I know these were designed for snow, but there's nothing like them in the rain

      Micheline finally made the size for my 19 years old minivan and I just go them installed two weeks ago. In spring the weather can go from T-shirt day to winter coats day with snow in 24hr and having these tires on my car for over an year now really takes the tire changing timing guessing game out of equation in life and just need to get in the car and drive without worrying if I changed the tires too early every year.

But you guys up there, like you said have to use judgment and have a couple different sets of tires.
      Like, what if you put on your summer tire too early and it snows? So that means you have to freaking change the tires back out again? And then change them back out again to get back to summer tires? What a hassle

    I've had several sets of various Michelin light truck tires. They've all held up well till the last 10-15k where the ride became rougher due to the lack of tire material to soften the road.

    After many reviews, forum topics, and you tube videos, I believe the Michelin CrossClimate2 to be in the Top 3 All-Season tires for Performance and Touring. They are a bit behind on Braking distance, but you just can't have everything and that is because the V shape area in the middle of the tire gets very little surface contact. The tire composition wears faster in hot weather and people who have heavy feet as in acceleration and hard on the brakes. I would think it is possible to get 60K miles and they are said to be a top-rated tire. You really can't argue with the several hundred plus positive comments and next to nothing negative comments. I live in the northeast U.S. and already done winter tires to all-season swapping for nearly 30 years, It's gotten to be costly and I believe it is about time to get an all-season tire that can handle snow. I bought new steel wheels and Michelin X-Ice Snow tires so my wife can drive safely during this winter in her 2022 Honda Civic Touring. The X-Ice Snow handles well when the Civic is moving forward, when placed in reverse to park the car is another story as maybe because the Civic is not AWD. The lousy OEM Goodyear Eagle Sport AS on the Civic are a summer tire and not all-season as Goodyear wants you to believe. Most OEM tires that you get on a new vehicle are expensive JUNK tires and should be replaced ASAP. The Michelin Primacy 4 Plus just not great as better off with Primacy MXM4. For a Sport tire the Pilot Sport 4s is rather good.

And if those were working, the rear tail light would go out and then I would have to replace the entire light cluster for three $400.

    Thanks Jake for putting me onto these tires. I was able to get them in 235/40/R19 for my 2019 Accord Sport at $890.00 plus a free oil change at Pepboys. How this happened I do not know. I was originally quoted for $1362.00 for just the tires and installation. I do see a 2 MPG loss in fuel efficiency but the comfort of the drive and safety is worth it. Way better than the Good years that came stock in the car. Those were extremely noisy from the first drive off the lot 3 years ago. Will only use Michelins from now on!

      Dude I'm in the same boat as you. And honestly, if you can swallow a slightly worse fuel efficiency than it's easily easily easily worth the change. Sincerely, fuel is a big deal when prices are high. But if you have a vehicle like mine that's 25 plus miles per gallon is really not that big of a deal. Couple extra bucks a tank in fuel efficiency losses. But yeah they are freaking sweet. You can't put a price on safety and handling. And these are the best handling and best safety tires I've ever driven

      That's actually really good to hear. I actually just did a $85,000 mile review and then I busted out a tire gauge so we could get exact measurements. We're sitting at 6.5 mm tread depth, and they come at 10 mm.

  • @mapwheel00
    @mapwheel00 2 года назад +13

    A tire depth gauge is like $3. I'm sure other people have mentioned that.
    Mine are down to 8/32nds after 11,700 miles. This is with rotations at 5,000 miles and checking for proper inflation every month. At this rate they will hit 4/32nds replacement depth at ~30,000 miles. This is in snow belt area so we have seasons and generally worse roads than down south.

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 года назад +4

      Yeah you're definitely right. Other people have definitely mentioned that before. I just kind of got into this as a hobby and never thought it would get this big. I will definitely get one for the next video
      You know I just got done commenting on somebody who had something similar. He was on $15,000 mi and was knowing some wear. Makes me wonder what the deal is. Makes me wonder if they're slipping in the snow and then that tears them up a lot more, or the roads are really bad up in snowy conditions.
      For me, they have been fantastic. But I just really don't understand how they can be so fantastic for me and durable and for other people they wear out in 30,000 mi

      Curious, where in the USA are you? I'm in Minneapolis, MN and while we didn't get 3' like Duluth, MN did 1-2 weeks ago (snow effect), or I don't live in the country where the snow whips across the highway, there's still a lot of compacted snow, now it's all melting so complete slush, etc. I'd be pretty disappointed if I'd only get 30k out of these tires for costing over $200/tire (way more than I've ever spent before) in a part of the country that actually sees 4 distinct seasons and do drive on roads like you said that aren't southern Cali and are pretty beat up from the winters.
      I've wanted to get these tires for like a year or more since I started seeing ads, but now my buddy (who used to work for a Goodyear dealer) is wanting me to get some Goodyear Assurance Comfortride tires for my 08 Avalon Touring. I'm sure overall they're great tires, but I'm sooooo sick and tired of spinning my wheels in the snow, like it's only the second winter with this car (used to be my Aunt and Uncle's one owner car, has some Hankook tires that are just either terrible or have no treat left) but ugh it's so frustrating. I want something I'm going to have traction in snow/winter. Granted if I was buying new tires in the summer I wouldn't be thinking about this but we're in winter and really would like some Three Peak rated all season/weather tires.
      It's good to hear you have actually taken these into the snow a few tires besides just driving on dry pavement or wet or mud, and the honest review is great about the mpg and also the noise you've noticed (I likewise rarely drive over 75, heck I'm rarely at 75 even). Anyways, thanks for the review on these babies!

But I've also been rotating my tires every 10,000 mi or so. I normally don't do that. I've had vehicles that I've ran 80,000 miles and never rotated them one time. (All terrain tires).
      That really freaking sucks man. I hate to hear that. Definitely claim warranty or whatever. Do not let Michelin screw you over like that. I know the tires are new, but you have a RAV4 so it's not like you have a Maserati or a Corvette or anything like that. I mean they should be lasting a lot longer than that

    had the original cross climate on the family car for about 5.5 years (had to be replaced because of a maximum 5 year old age limit for the annual mandatory inspections)
    at that point the tyres had about half the thread used up (depth)
    the tyres did about 92.000km for that period (including about 1.5 years of less driving due to covid.
    the most visible/obvious sign of age on them was that they were rinkling/cracking like rubber burnt from long exposure to sunlight. I would say that in that last year they felt possibly about 5% less amazing. The only case i encountered that was in some (unintentionally) aggressive driving in mountain roads. The road was very old and meant to be riven at very very slow speeds, like 20-35kph max, but with good company in the car i was forgetting that and going downhill car was accelerating more and then i had to throw the car in blind tight 180 degree turns and slow it down while turning at the same time. It felt more understeery than earlier. Could also be the hot weather making the tyres too soft, but it is the only time these tyyres felt to be performing less that they used to for the entire period. And when replaced with the new ones (cross climete plus) that slight understeery feeling at extreme turning, went away.
    On my personal car (about 500kg lightter than the family car) i have some stupid cheap "performance oriented" summer tyres (came with the car... will be changed in a year).
    these summer tyres perform worse in every condition than the michelins.
    (comarable weahter - summer) they are worse in dry breaking, launching, turning, handling, comfort, noise, (not sure about fuel economy in different cars). Wet is also a similar case... and obviously snow cant be compared... i have winters for my personal car since i drive a lot in snow and icy conditions. the family car has not had the need to drive in deep snow, but has handled up to 10cm of snow like nothing and that was in the original CC. the CC2 have a huge snow improvement so i cna only gues how well they perform

    Need advice i live right outside nyc which has some snow a few months a year. I have a 2020 cx5 gtr and im dumping the toyos. I can get a good deal on either pirelli scorpion as plus 3 or cross climates 2. I look for strong handling and road holding and quiet smooth ride especially for long freeway drives. Good Wet performance more then snow performance because of where i live. Which you think would be a better bet between these two? Oh i only put like 6000 miles a year on my car maybe.
    Ps love your channel

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  Год назад

      so first question, were those the toyos that come on it from the factory ? If they are, I can honestly say they were terrible. Maybe I am over reacting, but they wore out quick, slipped the whole time, and just had zero superior qualities.
      Secondly, the “good deal” part is important if you are cost conscious. Because I spent an arm and a leg for mine. If I could have gotten the cc2s for, say, $1000, it would be a no brained. I would buy them again at full price, but that would be a no brained for sure.
      If you are looking for handling and holding, look no further. Period. These are unmatched.
      They are great in snow, but I am from Alabama. I drive 40,000 miles a year, traveling and what not. So I drive everywhere. But I am in whiteout rain conditions a lot more than I am in snow.
      They are built for snow. But they were BUILTTTT for the rain, man. Phenomenal. I don’t know why all tires don’t follow thispattern.
      I personally don’t think you would regret it at all.
      Maybe on the road noise,but we both have “new” cars. If you had a 93 civic, big deal. But for new cars, not even noticable

I drive around 6k miles a year so you have way way for experience! I'm in nyc and some winters snow others meh. But I mean I could Def swing the cc2 If they are much better then the pirelli. It has plenty enough power to spin them on dry pavement so I figure I'll let people know how they perform as a performance tire: They feel great when sliding and fish-tailing. Break away is predictable and forgiving. Breaking is fantastic. Cornering and acceleration do not feel as good as my Pilot Sport 4s's (summer set). But, considering that these are snow tires, they are fantastic. I needed a tire that would allow me to dive in the mountains of Colorado this holiday season but was dreading the decrease in performance. Just got my CC2's installed today on a Volvo AWD wagon. Had been running Nokian WRG-4, which at 30K miles had great remaining tread but sidewall and tread dry rot cracking. Initial impression is that the CC2's run much smoother and with less noise, however, they are not as solid or unperturbed over bad pavement as the WRG-4's--bounced or skittered a lot.
    Will see how I make out with the CC2's. Had Nokian WRG-2's and WRG-3's. WRG-2 was the best. But since Nokian tells me I am SOL with the dry rot, I did not want to take a chance on the WRG-5's so switched to Michelin due to the good reviews overall.
    I did like the Nokian WRG's a lot, but cannot accept how they handled the dry rot issue. I always checked inflation and had the tires balanced and rotated. I thought I was a Nokian for Life convert, but they lost me. The Nokian dealer said Nokian would give me a 20% discount on the WRG-5's, but then he jacked up the price per tire to over US$250 each--more expensive than Michelin CC2's--WTF.

During summer i do notice the softer compound - full pedal to the metal in corners - i am getting understeer and sliding out. Now last week i tested emergency braking also during blackice condition - slides more and has less grip than winter tyre but still manageable. Luckily not experiencing lot of this conditions. Rare case. We'll see then

      Oh you already know. These things are grippy as hell. I've made a couple references and a couple jokes about this, but I literally, literally, literally, literally, literally, literally don't think I've ever had my tire slip since I put them on. I mean I don't think I've had them slip when I floor it or slip on the turn.
      Never. I used to have them slip all the time in the rain for example if it was raining and I pulled up to a stop sign. If I was too heavy on the gas, it would slip.
      Sometimes too when I would be able to stop sign and I would turn, I would be a little heavy on the gas and the tires would slip and traction control would have to take over.
      I know that was a lot of literally's, but I don't think they've slipped one time either rain or shine. Changes the whole game
      I also live in the southeast in Alabama, so snow is not a big concern of mine. It's mainly rain and bad weather conditions. But I have taken him up to Mount Rainier in Seattle and lake Tahoe and through a blizzard in North Carolina. So I've tested them and they're pretty good in the snow. So you should be good to go

They still had entirely legal tread on them - enough for another 2 or 3 years! Just put a pair of CC2’s on my wife’s Toyota Yaris (front) - the difference in ride grip and handling was astounding. One of those special, once in 50 year type of blizzard. And I can say they handle fantastic. I have driven up Mount Rainier before with chains strapped around my regular tires, and I was slipping and sliding the whole time. So above, I actually put a video that is pretty extensive on the mileage I lost on these tires. If you want to click on the link, you can see the video. NO SPAM OR VIRUS OR WHATEVER IN THE LINK!!! JUST A RUclips VIDEO FROM MY PLAYLIST
      Overall, I lose about 1 mi to 1 and 1/2 mi per gallon. I used to pretty regularly see 28.7 MPG on my dashboard, and now it stays around 27 to 27.5. And this is calculated over 5,000 mi. I like to calculate fuel efficiency three ways: instantaneously on the dashboard, over the course of a fuel tank which is about 350 miles, and over the course of an oil change which is every 5,000 mi.
      So over 5,000 mi, which is much longer and it reduces variability, I lose about a mile to a mile and a half.
      The funny thing is there's not much of a fuel loss when you are driving its lower speeds like 60 or so. But once you get up to higher speeds like 80 to 85 to 90 call me you definitely see two to three miles lost. So if you're driving fast on a 300 mile trip on the interstate, you might see two or three miles loss.
      But if you do a long haul you calculate over 5,000 mi, it is more even than it will only be about a mile or so loss and fuel efficiency

      We live 5 miles from town on a private road that we have to plow and maintain ourselves. We get 5-7 feet of snow every winter.
      In the spring we have a lot of slush and rainy days. In the fall we start getting rain that turns to snow.
      I like the tires so much that when the factory tires needed to be replaced on my wife’s Outback, we bought a set of 4 for her car.
      When they wear out, we will Definitely replace them with another set.
      My brother and his family live in Portland, Oregon and they get a LOT of rain and some snow. He too has the Cross Climate 2 tires on his Outback and he’ll replace them with another set when it’s time.
      My wife’s family live in Montana, so we recommended the tires to her brothers and sister in laws.
      Her oldest brother and his wife have both an Outback and a Volvo S-70 AWD. They put a set on their old Outback (his commuter car) and he too loves them, so when it was time to replace the tires on the Volvo they bought a set for it as well.
      Both of their adult sons live in western Washington so they recommended them to their sons. Both of them too love the tires.
      One of their granddaughters started college and needed new tires, so they wanted to help their granddaughter and bought her a set for her Corolla. She too loves how well they handle the rainy weather in Seattle.
      My wife and I have an adopted son,it was an open adoption and he does know his biological mom, (she had him when she was only 15 and couldn’t raise him properly). His Camry was wore out and he needed a reliable car for Med school so his biological mom gave him her Subaru Crosstrek. He came to us last Christmas and asked if we would buy him new tires. He’s our son, so of course we did. We bought him a set of Cross Climate 2 tires. He told us that he loves the traction of the tires while trying to navigate through heavy traffic in Seattle and going back and forth when he comes home going over Snowqualmie and Blewitt passes when he comes home, no matter what the road conditions are.
      So yeah, we Live the Cross Climate 2 tires.

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 года назад

      So this is funny. I'm actually going to be dropping a video about the exact tire pressure to keep in these tires. Lol. So you're just a little bit ahead of the game. I've already filmed it, so just let me edit it and I will get it up here soon
      I run whatever It says on the inside of my door panel. When I first got them, I ran them up to 40 because I was under the misconception that running them higher closer to the limit on the tire was preferable for a couple of reasons, specifically fuel efficiency at the cost of comfort.
      However, I have looked up extensive research on the subject and tried it in multiple different variations over the past 40,000 mi. And I can say, the level of the inside of the door panel seems to be the best.
      Because different vehicles have different weights and different weight distributions there's not a one size fit all. For example, my Mazda is not that light even though it's pretty small. And it also seems to have a pretty even weight distribution but definitely gets rear-heavy when you load it up with people cargo. And that is definitely different from putting them on a pickup truck or putting them on something like a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord, which is front heavy.
      So knowing that all vehicles are different, I decided to just follow the instructions on the inside of the door. And now I have several benefits from doing that. One, I have good comfort. Two, the fuel efficiency has been optimal, matching what it was when I over pressure the tires to 40 psi. So there was no benefit to a pressure and then for me. Three, I have had good comfort and road feel. My vehicle drives straight and true. And fourth, I have had even inconsistent wear patterns on the tires.

    • @jakeofreshly
      @jakeofreshly  2 года назад

      I know that's rather long, but I tested them over-pressured to 40 psi and also test with them around 28 to 30 psi for comfort. And I did not see any serious difference. I did not think it was worth the risk of tired deformation or inconsistent tire wear.
      So I followed the inside of my door panel. I can go check, but I think it was 33 PSI is what my manufacturer suggested. And I do not find that these tires are different enough to where I should change it from there.
      So I would just stick with what's recommended on the door panel;))))
      You won't gain much covered by making them softer, and you won't gain any fuel efficiency by making them more firm. Just my opinion

    • @Jeo-What
      @Jeo-What 2 года назад

      Depending on the speed you often drive. I usually have extra 3 psi in the summer due to warmer weather will increasing the psi further during driving and extra 5 psi in the winter as the tire does not increases much pressure in winter condition. MPG will increase only when the vehicle is in lower speed like in town/city driving or stop and go traffic condition. It does not have much effect on highway speed driving as the air resistance is so great that almost eliminate the benefit of the extra pressure in the tire.
