I still have one of my skate decks in my garage from that era, a Sims Screamer - inscribed on it is “Ian’s Right”, I wasn’t straight edge, but I had too many friends that got caught up in drugs that were out of control.
That's awesome brother I'm ten years younger and for some reason my town had a huge underground punk rock/hardcore scene for awhile and Minor Threat was that band besides the Bad Brains that really hit me the hardest.🤘🤘🤘 This music is timeless🤘🤘🤘
I'm from Southern California, didn't matter that I wasn't from D.C. OR straight edge, the music's just too good. I actually liked a local band called Uniform Choice, some people said they were kind of a Minor Threat rip off because they were straight edge and the singer sounded similar, but imo they were way better. Screaming for change is one of my all time fav albums in general. Would recommend
why did sxe become tech metal? you dont have to be edge (at least half the band wasnt...Lyle was in Samhain and Meatmen after) they would have lasted longer but the whole thing got out of control. its pure, raw punk. not a weak song.
Agreed. Imagine been part of a powerful scene that disintegrates right before your eyes due to age ,stylistic progression etc . Anyway, Revolution Summer came next so the rest in history
I feel you for real. He was growing artistically and you could hear it. He knew it was a transitional point in his life. I love this. Minor Threat is sacred though and will never happen again. They are one band you will never see reform, the Dead Kennedys with Jello also.
All these books and movies about the different scenes these days. We are a bunch of nostalgic assholes, just like the rest of the middlec aged rebels, I guess. But Ian got it right. What about our memories? But there are no facts. The salad days, indeed.
@@thundersweetiex2912 The terminology I used was "building." Sure there were bands before The Beatles that helped build Rock and Roll and that genre. Similar to Minor Threat. I never used the term "original." Just like there were bands before The Stooges that helped necessitate that genre but I always saw them as a the garage band from hell! It's crazy to hear The Stooges music in "Cruella" or some advertisement but such is life.
