I'd personally take the ambient noise over the weird sounding voice with noise cancelling. I also think it's weird to see a busy background and hear none of it. I'm sure it has it's applications, but I'd rather have the ambient noise. Still loving the channel Mark. Too poor to buy anything you review, but I can dream!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

Yeah - it's great without the noise cancelling. But who knows - one day you may need it. Live streaming in a hurricane?? We've got you covered.

@Aprons & Overalls You forgot to mention that there's a limit though, if something has to be recorded, but the background sound is absolutely overbearing and overshadowing the speaker/vlogger, I'll take the tin-ny sound of the noise cancelling over that any day of the week. I've seen this before from novice vloggers, you might ask "Why didn't they just move to a quieter place?" I asked the same thing... I think this is where the noise cancelling shines, and you want that in your arsenal of tools for the 'just in case'.

    • @ggsotra2

Me too. I think some people like me have nothing against busy noise and such. Loud noise never bothers me. While for others it can be very annoying.

Noice cancelling is great if you do full sound design for your projects.
My advice and this might sound weird is, record surround/ ambient sound separately & voice separate, then you unlock a whole world editing and better final products 😅

When compared side by side, noise cancelled audio always has that artificial sound to it. However, by itself and especially after a short while it starts to sound natural and pleasing. I’ve gone ahead and ordered the M1 but have some reservations about it not having internal recording so may ultimately switch it for the costlier DJI

First, my M1 is arriving today. Yeehaa. Regarding the noise canceling, I would need to do some tests to see if I can improve the quality in post. As it is straight out of camera, it does sound a bit like a transistor radio. So, I will perform some tests with the noise canceling and report back my findings. Thanks for producing another video about the M1. Having purchased it on Prime Day, I saved a substantial amount of money.

The cost of this stands out above most of the other options. I don't know that a professional would want them but the part time or hobbyist, these would be pretty good. As a side note, depending on how the viewer was listening, like with phone speakers, the noise cancelling may actually sound better to them because those speakers may not resolve your voice compared to the background sound, like real headphones or speakers will.

Even if I just use 1 of the mics and keep the other in the charging case it only records to 1 channel. I think rode/DJI does not have any extra button for removing background noise, it automatically removes it without compressing the volume. I get lots of your video suggestions, so today I subscribed.

It sounds like you had both transmitters going - put everything back in the case, only take out one transmitter and the receiver and close the case,. Then the mic should automatically go into Mono mode. The receiver on the camera should have a green light and the transmitter on your shirt should have a blue light. If that is all working, go into your camera's audio and switch your external audio input to mono.

the noise cancelling sounds a bit like your speaking into a corner of the room

I prefer abit of background noise, more realistic (or natural)

With it on, it sounds more like a landline telephone from the 1970s. I guess you could fix it in post, but me being a sound guy first and a video guy second, it was noticeable. In some cases like the highway I would leave it off ( I guess I am weird but don't tell anyone). I did buy one for $115 on Prime Day ( Mark you evil &&@$^ you got me spending money again) for that amount it's worth a spin. Thanks

I think it’s a nice option to have - but I can’t really see myself using it unless in an extreme situation

Hey Mark good morning. You seem to always respond and be very helpful ive come to absolutely love and enjoy your channel, i recently told u i bought a zv-e10 and a crane m2s i also purchased the lark max kit im just a dumb oilfield boat capt and diver, ive wanted to start this for years but very intimidating. I dont know how to set my wireless mic set to my camera or what i should do. Do you have a video on zv-e10 and wireless mic connection or how to for a beginner? Thank you as always for any info and responding.

Much better without it on, too much phasing of your voice and other strange artefacts.
