I noticed this but only on the set. At the 2nd open area I actually thougth the M2 sounded a bit better. I just bought the M2 and a Godox... I think I'll be returning the godox and buy the DJI.
If you watched other video on the Lark M2 there is almost no difference and one tubers I respect cliamed the Lark M2 sounds better, this was her after doing the dji mic mini review.
Sound Test: Hollyland basically has more Mids. Some people prefer that, but DJI has collapsed the Mids, so the Bass and Highs are more pronounced, leading to that more "professional/podcast/studio" sound, versus a more organic one with more Mids. At least, I think that's what my ears are picking up. I didn't run the audio of your video through a post-prod programme. Thanks for the test!
@@TechnoTaranOfficial It's audio. You can tweak it, for sure. I was earing something like +2db arround de 2 and 4khz on the Hollyland. Did a rought test and got a similar response from the Hollyland.
Excellent review; you left no questions unanswered. For most use cases, either mic solution will work. What steered me to the DJI Mic Mini was the seamless connection to my Osmos 3.
I stumbled upon ur channel looking at Lark M1 Reviews! Got my hands on a Lark M1 which is quit nice! but the DJI Mini is looking like a good deal with my Pocket 3, since it can connect directly! Thanks a lot and keep up the great quality work! Love from Sri Lanka!
I’ve been using a couple of older Hollyland mini mics, and only recently adopted the DJI system when I added the Pocket cameras. Both build quality are pretty refined and function well. Being tiny they all need frequent use to be familiar with the controls. Happy with both🙂
If you have an action 5 pro or pocket 3 then its well worth it going for the mic mini. Anything else just go with the Lark to save money. Though I do like the fuller, more balanced audio coming from the mic mini. Just remember to use the reveiver if paired with a non dji device. Not straight bluetooth, otherwise the quality suffers.
DJI is a little late to the game here (as is RODE with theirs) as most of us have already purchased the Lark M2. Thanks for this video--which proves that either will work just great if you don't have one. With that said, I still prefer the Lark M2 because: 1. It's lighter 2. It looks smaller due to the round form factor 3. It doesn't have an obnoxious DJI logo on it, and even provides stickers to easily cover their design on the front. I now have a white and black Lark M2 transmitter to use with different outfits. DJI just copied the existing trend of tiny/light mics... but didn't really add anything significant to the category. So, as you say--it just comes down to pricing.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Also, I can add one more minus for Dji, because their app is not available in some countries, so I can't even download it just like that!
I bought the Black Friday deal for the Hollyland Lark M2 yesterday ($111) and it should be coming in today. Now I'm debating on if I return it and get the DJI. I think they both sound pretty close on audio quality. I think the DJI has a slightly better lower frequency presence but the fact the DJI has a safety track in mono is enticing... Mark, what would you do in this situation?
I have loved the Hollyland for the past year. It's a bit smaller on your shirt without the back clip too. Since you find the audio to be similar, just stick with the one you have - it's such a great deal on Black Friday. Try it for a while - you can always return it a bit later and pick up the DJI if you change your mind
Came to this late as I am looking for an outdoor solution for reviews on the go. The Lark is better outside whereas the DJI is definitely the better sounding in a treated room. If your room isn't treated or is full of echo and reverb then the Lark may be the better solution based on this review. Now off to look at other reviews
Hollyland Lark M2 has hit a homerun for this model. As others below had said, the sound canceling is better. There are more whistles and bells with the DJI Mic Mini, but for ease of use, run'n gun video with sound, the Hollyland Lark M2 is a clear winner.
Bought 2 packs of Lark 2 from Amazon on Black Friday. One was US version, another rebranded Brazilian. US version sounded much deeper and richer than Brazilian. Both had same firmware version. What is funny even camera recievers have very different sound when paired to the same mic. Kept US version and happy. Next buy is Dji mic2 for 32 bit, very helpful when singing😅
Thanks for the review! The DJI Mic Mini's audio quality is fantastic, it sounds incredibly clear and bright, and its design and texture give off a premium vibe.
I have the M2's and I love them. Everyone I interview think they're so convenient. If DJI had removable clips and allow you to cover the logo it would be a winner.
than you so much for this video. really give me a strong clarity on what one to go for, I love DJI and I have the pocket 3 and action 5 pro with the DJI mic 2. but since I'm going to be doing more videos with me and my partner I have been looking on some small mics to get. I think the holly land one sounds incredible and the smaller case is always a massive bonus. I would really like to see a comparison on these 2 mics using the pocket 3 as I know dji mics can sometimes be a bit funny when connecting to different cameras such as Sony. so if you could do a video on that, that would be amazing. keep doing you man! love you videos. always leave understanding way more than other reviews on RUclips ✌
can i listen my recording with the dji without disconnect the reserved like the hollyland it it is the same like the dji mic 2 I have to disconnect the resever to listen my recording
When you say "between mono and stereo", at 4:49, are you saying that each individual transmitter (let's say in a 2 person interview) can record Stereo? Like the old Zoom portable recorders used to do? Or do you mean each transmitter records in Mono, and then the receiver kinda sums it up with each one panned a different way to get a net "Stereo" type effect? Also do they record multitrack or just one track? And lastly, do they record over the iphone video for example if we're using an iphone, like those cheap $20 ones on Amazon do? Or are these completely separate recordings we need to do from our actual video? Thanks!
You can do a stereo interview on a camera the the Lark M1 - independent tracks on the left and right. You can connect it to your iPhone and it will work - but the stereo mode will be gone - you can use both mics - but they will be mixed on one track on the phone
I have the lark M2 and I'd grab a DJI Mic Mini purely because you can put the cable in the case! That's the biggest letdown of the Hollyland package for me. The noise cancellation on the DJI sounds much better to me, but I don't like the fixed clips on the back of the mics. I prefer the way you can add them to the Hollyland via the magnet. I often mount my Hollylands somewhere in the environment I'm recording in (mainly music open mics and comedy shows). So it's good to see you could do the same with the DJI.
I wore headphones. Didn’t hear much of a difference between both. But the extra functions and case and compatibility to the dji action 5 would sway me to buy the dji. I already have the lark m2. Which I love and I’m keeping. I’ll just buy both. 😅
Listening on my Sony ULT headset, I cannot tell the difference in sound quality. Noise reduction (which I do in post) sounds better on the DJI. Lark MK2 is currently on sale on your Amazon link for an amazing $100. Lark has a good reputation, DJI has a phenomenal reputation as well. Newer is better. PS: I think you nailed it on the somewhat sterile review, take that! Paid reviewer. Great job as always.
I have the DJI Mic2 with just one transmiter. I do not need more, but the option to buy one Mic Mini and use it with the Resever of the Mic 2 is really cool. Also its possible to connect the Mic Mini directly to an Insta360 X3 or X4 or the GoPro13 is a great option.
For me, the game changer or deal breaker is the RECEIVER! I prefer the smaller Hollyland Lark M2 USB-C receiver on my iPhone VS DJI's bulky receiver which is actually a 2-for-1 receiver (smartphone & digital camera mount).
5:21 This is what I find so handy about the Lark M2 lanyard... I've often considered it with some folks I've interviewed.😆 I'll have to pick up the DJI Mic Mini to avoid the temptation!
In Lark M2 stereo mode works ONLY via trs audio cable. Only mono available (sound mixed from both transmitters), when connected to phone or via usb c cable to computer.
Using either one of these with an iPhone, is there a way to monitor the recordings? I use these for recording radio interviews, and it is essential...which is why I now use a clunky iRig HD mic.
There's no way I have found to do real-time audio monitoring on these mics. You can leave the devices connected nad playback through headphones or speaker, but you can't hear the audio as you're recording
Mark can you please test to see if the Mic Mini Rx will accept the Mic 2 Tx ? And if possible can you see if the OMSO Pocket 3 can handle both Mic Mini & Mic 2 Tx simultaneously. You would be the first person to answer this.
One bad surprise to me is that Lark M2 do not record in stereo while connected to a mobile phone. That is horribly annoying. I thought I found the perfect podcast solution, Just an android phone and hollyland mobile version. But recording in mono with both microphones on the same channel?!?! Never seen any reviewer recognizing this?
I have the Lark and love it. I often use it inside my shirt with the magnet on the outside. Then it’s super tiny. DJI looks to thick especially with the non removable clip. All that said I did order a DJI to be there next week. So we will see.
The dongle design is actually slightly different between the mini receiver and the mic 2 receiver, so even the usb c and lightning dongles cannot be used between the two separate systems :/
For me, the whole point of buying one of these tiny sets is so that they would be as obscure as possible. The round form factor of the M2 makes it jump out LESS than a square form factor. Something round on someone's clothing, especially if you put the sticker on it to make it a solid color, blends in much better than a square shiny logo'ed item. THEN on top of that, the M2 is magnet first, clip second whereas the Mini is clip first, magnet second. Trust me, using the magnet mount is going to be your go-to vs clip and as such, with the MINI the mic physically sticks out too much! The M2 will sit flush with clothing. On thinner clothing, that extra bulk that sticks out further from the clothing will cause the mic to droop down and pull on the outfit. The flush-mounted M2 will do much better. When I say "sticks out" I mean the Mini has the extra clip mount between the mic and the magnet which not only causes the mic to stick out further which puts more weight further from the mounting point, it also adds an ANGLE to it so it doesn't have a clean flush mount.
It doesn’t shut down the camera - it’s the other way around. When you connect the mini to a pocket 3 or action cam, when you power them down, the mic powers off too. You’re right about the stop / start - should have included that!!
I already had the Rode Pro set for 3.5 mm socket cameras and a couple of DJI 2s for my Pocket 3. I ordered a single mini to use with the DJI Neo drone. I could have used one of the 2s but I’d need to swap them a re-pair them so this seemed like a good idea.
Interesting. To my ear the Hollyland Lark M2 is better, especially with the noise cancelling turned on. The DJI’s upside is being able to carry the dead cat in the case and having a stereo recording option when plugged into a phone which is really useful when your audio sources don’t have similar input volumes!
Hollyland has a crazy discount on Amazon for Black Friday... I didn't understand what you mentioned direct connection to a cell phone...? If that is what you meant... So you can connect to a phone without the USB-C attachment with the DJI mini mic but with the Hollyland you always need to use the USB-C attachment if recording with the phone?
Yes - you can use bluetooth with the DJI as well as the direct to phone adapter. But audio will take a hit. DJI connecting to DJI devices will have a higher quality than phone because of the 48khz sample rate. Hollyland does not have any bluetooth
Great video, Mark, BUT you didn't touch on my biggest gripe with the Hollyland M2: It won't record the microphones on separate channels when connected to my iPhone. I use the tiny mics for recording interviews and REALLY NEED that feature. What about the DJI? Can it do that for me? If not, will either device do that when connected to a digital camera? THANKS!!!
Very interesting release. Sound is very comparable to me this time, i might just ever so slightly prefer the Hollyland but the difference is negligible. Noise cancelling is a good bit better tho, surprisingly. Weak is as strong as DJI's strong mode and sounds cleaner. Strong NC on the Hollyland is... strong, but doesn't sound good enough anymore imo. That DJI has matched the price i wouldn't have guessed. Both have their advantaged, but the Lark M2 wins in the categories important to me. And i like the fun shape. Glad there's competition now
Hollyland sounds more crisp and a bit cleaner imo. Ever so slight differences in the two, which I would recommend getting the Hollyland because it's cheaper in price.
There are 3 microphones in this area. The other one belongs to the Rode brand. I'm not sure which one of these 3 microphones I should buy. I'll use it on my Android mobile phone.
Excellent comparison as expected 🤣, they sound similar, but I mostly hear the FX30 preamp, sounds like A74. Sony hotshoe adapter would be killer to bypass the Sony bottleneck. I use an audio interface when I can and it's not even close. Considering Osmo Action/Pocket connectivity, DJI is a no brainer if you have those, which I do. The single mic comes in at US$ 41 in China, vs 72 for the DJI Mic 2 single (52 if not retail packed). Please do a Mini vs Mic 2 sound comparison if you have time and interest !
I got some thoughts. - I like the Hollyland USB-C or Lightning attachment more than the DJI one. It's just smaller and is less bulky when attached to the phone. - DJI is the obvious choice if you're connecting it to a DJI camera since you don't have to use the receiver. - If you clip the DJI mic to your shirt, the mic would be facing sideways. On the Hollyland, the clip turns, so you can adjust it to point towards your mouth. - The DJI has better features, like the clipping control and safety track. - DJI lets you turn off the LED, where it isn't posible on the Hollyland. - I like the magnet system more on the hollyland since it sticks out less. In the end, I will probably get the DJI just because of that ability to connect to DJI cameras without the receiver.
Th DJI wins only because it is able to record in stereo through USB. Hollyland will only record Stereo through 3.5mm output, but not USB. And this kinda defeats the purpose of having 2 mics if you can't control their volume individually.
If you only want to use this kind of mics with a phone, I would say that the new mics from rode are the best ones because the receiver is much less bulky. If you want a system that works with phone and cameras, I would choose the DJI system.
Recently found the channel as I am looking to get Hollyland and these videos have been really helpful. DJI mini is not launch in my country and I prefer getting an established device than a new one
I ended up getting the lark a day before they released the dji mini. Either way I’ll would have still choose the lark due the sale discount that is has currently for 111 plus tax the combo kit. Although the dji has nice features but I don’t see myself using it anytime soon
Its super weird that they are sold out on DJI's site, (You can add to cart but when you go to checkout it says "out of stock") but on amazon it says I'll receive them in a few days.....
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis sounds good. I was curious from a streaming perspective. Between that and stream deck, should be good to go. Thanks for the quick response.
I am really surprised DJI managed to do this for less price of the Hollyland. I also think it sounds better by a notch. Hollyland on sale for 110 bucks or so is great though, easy recommendations for everybody starting out. As much as I love your enthuasim for the Hollyland, I think I'd grab the DJI (if I needed one lol comment just for the youtube algorithm).
Really good comparition, Mark! I heard the video on a Sonos Ace headphobes and I felt the Hollyland sound slightly better. Wich is impressive considering the tiny size and the time they had in the market. What do you think about?🙂 Thanks for the video!
What is support like with both companies? When they are so similar it's going to be things like getting a repair / service / replacing a missing accessory that would be the decider for me
when many people hear the audio tests, they stop watching. then RUclips will kill the video and people won’t hear about the features, so I put it at the end because that helps, but I always include timestamps incase there are people who just want to skip it all
I think there is a few things makes me sway towards Dji Mic Mini. 1st: Everything just pack into one box as compare to Lark M2> 2nd: Sound may not be that great as compare to Lark M2 but I have Pocket 3 Combo and Insta360X3 and iPhone 16 Pro. So it would be better for me to get the Dji Mic Mini instead of Lark M2. 3rd: Magnets on Dji Mic Mini is stronger compare to Lark M2 for thicker clothing 4th: The safety track from DJI mic Mini is very useful, as if they have a 32bit-float preventing from clipping audio just incase someone shouted. Since I already has the Dji Mic 2 comes with Pocket 3, I can use that transmitter and pair with my iphone 16 pro (with 32-bit float turn on in pocket 3) using blackmagic. Have the Dji Mic Mini connect with Pocket 3. Win win. That's why I will still go with Dji Mic Mini.
I'm a salesman, used the 1st gen DJI Mic, DJI Mic 2 & Also Hollyland L2...shoot almost all on phone. I can say the benefit of L2 is the ADAPTER is so much compact, makes the camera man EASY TO HANDLE THE PHONE. WIthout any app installed. But bonus on DJI enabling record wirelessly from the mic itself. win win.
I like the sound of the hollyland m2 more. i just bought one today for 138 before tax 154.56 after tax. for the combo pack. Way cheaper for what it is. I think if i upgrade ill get the dji mic 2
Lark M2 sounds a little bit better (more bass), it’s cheaper now (great deal on BF), have better (small compact) transmitter to phone, and with magnets it’s keep better on your clothes bcs dji has a clothing mount and only then a magnet (the center of gravity is further from the clothing), in M2 magnet is directly to microphone. NC is also better in M2, voice sounds very bad with NC in DJI. So it’s actually easy choice. Lark M2.

Great comparison. Both seems great but the case on DJI fitting everything would tip my hand. Enough bags and extra accessory cases as it is. 😃
FYI ... The DJI transmitter, when you press the button, will STOP/START video recording I don't believe it shuts down the camera as you mentioned.
It doesn’t shut down the camera - it’s the other way around. When you connect the mini to a pocket 3 or action cam, when you power them down, the mic powers off too. You’re right about the stop / start - should have included that!!
@ apparently it’s when you double click the recording will stop/start
THANKS!!!
If they are recorded to separate channels, you can split them into left and right mono channels in post. It's an extra step, but it's doable..
Glad there's competition now
Yes - great mics and good prices. Can't go wrong here
Hollyland sounds more crisp and a bit cleaner imo. Ever so slight differences in the two, which I would recommend getting the Hollyland because it's cheaper in price.
There are 3 microphones in this area. The other one belongs to the Rode brand. I'm not sure which one of these 3 microphones I should buy. I'll use it on my Android mobile phone.
Well I have a pocket 3 and it will pair up with one transmitter. I am buying all the DJI stuff I want before the tariffs kick in next year.
Love clipping protection on the mini, hate having their branding in videos
What’s cool about the dji is that they have an adapter that connects directly to the Sony hot shoe eliminating the audio cable
that adapter won’t work with the mini - only the Wireless Mic 2 unfortunately
@ is the receiver that much different? From what I’ve seen you can use the mini transmitters with the mic 2 receiver
Thanks for the review. I just got the Hollyland full combo kit for 109 which I thought was a steal.
That is a steal!
I ended up with the Hollyland because it was on sale for Black Friday $105 and the phone receiver is smaller
If you only want to use this kind of mics with a phone, I would say that the new mics from rode are the best ones because the receiver is much less bulky. If you want a system that works with phone and cameras, I would choose the DJI system.
The connectivity and sound limiter of dji makes it win the cake for me
Recently found the channel as I am looking to get Hollyland and these videos have been really helpful. DJI mini is not launch in my country and I prefer getting an established device than a new one
Basic Sound Cancellation sounds better at the end on both. Cheers!
I ended up getting the lark a day before they released the dji mini. Either way I’ll would have still choose the lark due the sale discount that is has currently for 111 plus tax the combo kit. Although the dji has nice features but I don’t see myself using it anytime soon
Ohhh man 😂😂😂😂😂 5:24 was something I wasn't expecting.
😂
This was an intelligent AND handsome video. Simply amazing!
🤣
Shall we assume that the DJI mini microphone does not work with the mic II receiver? I find the sound of the DJI mic sounds better than the Mic II.
Its super weird that they are sold out on DJI's site, (You can add to cart but when you go to checkout it says "out of stock") but on amazon it says I'll receive them in a few days.....
Hi Mark! Did you know if the the RX is compatible with the DJI Mic 2 also? Or is just compatible with the mini?
On Noise Cancellation, the DJI sounds a bit more natural, pero I'd say it cancels a bit less noise.
Can we connect DJI mic with Mobile using Bluetooth? Because the reciever is still bigger than Lark m2 if I am doing vlogging with mobile handheld.
I like that you can delete the branding on the lark. Do any of these allow muting at the tx?
@@PlayedOutPops you can power off the transmitter by holding down the noise cancelling button. Not mute button per se
I just bought the stand alone Dji mini microphone to go with my Dji action 5
Really good comparition, Mark! I heard the video on a Sonos Ace headphobes and I felt the Hollyland sound slightly better. Wich is impressive considering the tiny size and the time they had in the market. What do you think about?🙂
Thanks for the video!
If you have Pocket 3, Action 5 Pro, or Action 4. It’s a no brainer. DJI Mic Mini! I have Lark M2 but I still bought this for my Pocket 3.
What is support like with both companies? When they are so similar it's going to be things like getting a repair / service / replacing a missing accessory that would be the decider for me
I suggest doing the audio quality and comparison first before the whats and features of the systems. It’d be more cohesive that way imo.
when many people hear the audio tests, they stop watching. then RUclips will kill the video and people won’t hear about the features, so I put it at the end because that helps, but I always include timestamps incase there are people who just want to skip it all
I think there is a few things makes me sway towards Dji Mic Mini.
1st: Everything just pack into one box as compare to Lark M2>
2nd: Sound may not be that great as compare to Lark M2 but I have Pocket 3 Combo and Insta360X3 and iPhone 16 Pro. So it would be better for me to get the Dji Mic Mini instead of Lark M2.
3rd: Magnets on Dji Mic Mini is stronger compare to Lark M2 for thicker clothing
4th: The safety track from DJI mic Mini is very useful, as if they have a 32bit-float preventing from clipping audio just incase someone shouted.
Hvordan er lyden på DJI når man bruger den via Bluetooth på et action 5 ?
The noise canceling function sounds a bit better on the Hollyland Black Friday sale.
I love the Hollyland too! But just got the DJI
I like lark M2
Hollyland Lark M2 is one of the best mics id ever use. I'm pro videographer and this piece of kit is absolutelly awesome and really easy to use.
The noise canceling function sounds a bit better on the Hollyland.
Lark M2.
I love mine and it's such a great deal right now
*Can you do a DJI mic mini Vs DJI mic 2 comparison aswell please?*
*In the sound comparison, did you have the low cut filter off on the dji mic mini because it sounds better without it?*
low cut filter was off yes. I will compare the two Dji mics for sure
Would you recommend either of these microphones for a home RUclips Studio for talking head videos ?
Absolutely - both will work well. The Hollyland is more simple to use - but the DJI gives you more options
Mark Bennett is handsome and funny. What more could anyone ask for?
nothing!!
What about Rode Micro though?
That's for phones only
Hey Mark, great comparison. Do you think it could pair with original DJI receiver? I just love seeing levels without pulling out my phone
