If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
    How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
    Never quit,
    Alex
    FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

Thank you Alex. So of course, I'm one of those people who gets distracted easily and run few projects. Since I've started watching Alex, this question keeps circling in my head:
"That's all true, BUT what if I chose to do all these things in a wrong business? He also mentions examples where the river you swim in needs to be big enough."
But I guess the answer is: focus on one thing for certain amount of time (I'm not sure how long it should be) and check if the market is growing. The question is - Is the market to small or is it me not doing all the necessary things?
Would appreciate any help on this.

Doing more of something all-ways increases the risk with each addition, especially if those additions have flaws... Doing something Better has the lowest risk with the best reward system, the entire premise is focused on improvement...
but, no matter what we have or have not done, Execution bears the greatest risk...
don't be cute, believe in the mission, consciousness is a business, mind the ferrets, it's simple back yard football and all we need is consistent yardage...

I just want to take this chance to say how amazing your videos are and especially this one. Really mind blowing and basic but josh it’s so much value. My friend and I have a podcast we recently started and this advice will definitely help us so much in the future especially with managing social media and stuff. We are a self improvement podcast and we are trying to create a community and help people reach their full potential while they help us do the same. We learn and grow together with the audience. So thank you for this stuff and keep it up bro.

4:49, Alex claims that it's old reinforcement that's making it hard to learn this simple lesson. To grow your business, need to do more of what you're already doing, or do it better. You should NOT be doing new things.
And it relates to his Neil Strauss quote from earlier in the video. You can't keep your cup full. You have to be able to learn new things. You have to be able to change your ideas about what you previously learned.
And that's one of the hardest (meta) lessons to learn because you already have evidence in favour of it.
7:02, the thing that makes it hard is the discipline you have to have to execute. Strategy is easy. Execution is hard.

Really helpful video! Alex has many parallels to stoicism and logotherapy; a lot of his advice encourages you to listen to the voice of our conscious. This idea of the "logos" that is a sort of "hint from the heavens" on the right thing to do I think is showed very well in his ideas, not to mention the transitions and edits on the videos are top notch!

Good sir. Would you consider me distracted or not?
I started learning programming on my free time to better work on software that I find easier over time to troubleshoot and work with in general(windows and debian linux operating systems mainly). Since my job is a tech in the Navy that means I also work on hardware maintenance. So I enjoy troubleshooting hardware as well as software.
I decided to spend most of my free time last year learning the basics of python programming. A couple days ago I finally find myself enrolled to a course called "2M Miniature/Micro Miniature repair", where I'll be working on the components of a circuit board amoungst other things involving soldering. I've always desired this skill.
I plan to pass this course and obtain the certification so I can bring all my tech skills together and build around the programs I have in mind.
I'm curious, id just like to know your opinion. Would you consider my approach a distracted one?

I wonder how this relates to people with creative vocations. I literally can't focus full-time on my creative vocation as a fiction writer because if I did, I would be homeless lol.
I have a main business which is in online academic teaching. I put a lot into it and do quite well, but if I didn't have writing, I would feel that my life was wasted. Sometimes as an artist you can't just focus on one thing - you must have two.

The counter to this, is that sometimes people start a business that is not actually that good, or it's in a bad market, or the model is not that good, and by trying different businesses and trying different things you eventually stumble upon the model that is right. And if someone were to lock into this logic they would never try that. So I don't think that the advice that he's giving is 100% true because it could lock you in into a path that's not actually good.

This video puts things into perspective how even people having multiple "successful businesses" by their standards wether it is making millions/year or 10ks or 100ks per month they could be even better if they only focus on one to reach billions.

    Key takeaways
Focusing on the basics and executing them well can lead to business growth over time
Singular focus is crucial to avoid distractions
Opportunities can be like the woman in the red dress, tempting but potentially harmful distractions
Better to fix the holes in the bucket (business) before adding more water (traffic)
Doing the obvious thing for an uncommonly long period of time can lead to success
