Really good walk through! I have been podcasting for over a decade and just used Riverside for my first recording of my new podcast that launches Feb 8th. It was flawless and the individual recordings made editing and creating clips super easy 👊🏾
Hands down - the best tips and tricks video on Riverside! Salute Sir. So how does a guest click off to ensure they have uploaded their stream correctly? Do they wait for 10 ninutes after clicking off?
Hey there, I've kinda fallen in love with Riverside, and your videos have really helped. But in checking the Facebook groups and recent Reddits, I'm seeing ongoing horror stories of audio drift, and no updates to solve this in 6+ months. It seems that their competitors are directly selling this resolution as a feature. I seriously wanted the Magic Editor, and love the system. In your experience, have you run into these issues? And if the team is so amazing, how are there all these poor experiences with a pretty basic need?
Hey sir I'm having the same issue Audio drift and really struggling with it .I don't know how they make Riverside FM sounds so wouderfull while all these problems are unsolved
@@mohammedghuraibawi I've found that iphones calling in make for terrible drift. Desktop has been good, except in 1 case. I'm pretty happy, but need to pay for a backup streaming option in case something random happens.
This is incredibly helpful thanks Brian - really thinking about using this - wish the trial lasts a little more than an hour to properly road test it! It's either this, or an experiment first with Cleanfeed for audio and Zoom for video
Outstanding video resource!!! One thing I can never seem to find though, is how to create a studio template. I worked hard to sew together intro and outro videos, with an offset audio to allow for a smooth transition to interview content, with chapters, text pop-ups etc and then exported the whole thing... and ALL THAT WORK was gone. So for my next episode I have to recreate all that work?! I need a studio to remain as a "project file" with the chapter divisions, text channel and autio and video timelines so I can switch out content and reuse the rest. Can Riverside not do this?!
This is super helpful, thank you! Also, I noticed none of your social media links are working or the pages were down (IG & Twitter, but LinkedIn still works fine). I assume that was intentional, but just in case it wasn't I wanted to share so you didn't miss out on that traffic. God bless!
With multiple inputs I always run into issues on at least 1 of the tracks, either audio not recording, or video cutting out, or my back ups not downloading properly
This was a great video, thanks so much! If you haven't yet (I'll be looking through your videos), would you do a tutorial on how to add video or other clips that show properly over the entire screen during the recording or live stream, not in post. I've tried it and it keeps showing in split screen instead of full screen. Maybe there is a way to do it that I'm not aware of.
I'm using the Iriun app so I can use my smartphone as a camera, I'm getting a lot of video lag. Do you think that's because of a poor Wi-Fi connection, the phone being Bluetoothed to laptop, or settings in Riverside? Everything else that you stated pretty much seems to be working for me but my video and audio are not in sync and there's noticeable video lag even after the upload to Riverside. Great information on this window, thank you!
Riverside removed the feature where you can set live video to 240 or 360p. Which turned out to be a HUGE issue for me with my first ever recording. The video would freeze and audio stop every few minutes for a minute or so. Thankfully, the recording came out great. I asked Riverside for a fix and they said my options are to either record with live video off or pause uploading on the guest side until the end. It completely boggles my mind that they would remove such a useful feature. No reponse when I said the same thing to them on their facebook group.
I am a new beginner in riverside. One of my recordings the audio of a guest was clipping. Obviously the volume slider in the guest tap does not effect the recorded audio. I whish I had on option to adjust of the recording volume.
Hey, this is SO helpful! You’re an excellent instructor. I just want to know what camera are you using? Do you connect it and use it as your podcasting camera? It looks amazing!
It's just a Sony ZV1! I used to use a pair of them for podcasting and livestreaming. These days my podcasting cam is a Sony A7IV and my webcam is a ZV-E10.
Can you retroactively extract video from an "audio only" recording?! I accidentally recorded a podcast with the "audio only" setting when I needed an Audio & Video. Please help me!! 🙏🏻
Question, is it possible to use my iPhone via the app for it's camera but still use my audio feed through the desktop app as I have an Apollo Twin interface and Shure SM7B mic? is this possible either wirelessly or with the iPhone plugged in via USB 3.0?
Very helpful! Thank you! I've been having lots of issues getting good quality video downloads post recording. I have checked all the usual boxes and cant seem to get it fixed. Any tips?
Great video, thanks so much for posting. Quick question, how long after you stop your interview does it take to upload? Granted I’d guess it depends on time length. Just wondering how long the guest would need to keep the tab open after finishing before the upload is complete.
I agree it is a great video. I have started using Riverside and for the last two recordings it took about 10 minutes or more when the guest was on their cell phone in Africa with about 50 minutes of audio only. Not a problem. It gave me a chance to learn more when continuing the conversation after the recording.
What do you do if a good portion of the time your guest’s audio is at like 48%-50% and they can’t hang around and don’t click the link to upload their track? Do I just call riverside each time? This has been frustrating me to a point of wanting to leave riverside. Any advice?
They don't have to stick around, just keep the tab open. You can build into your prep guide suggestions for being close to WiFi router or preferably connecting via ethernet. Depends on how crazy you want to get. If you're using Riverside, it's to get high quality audio. If you're frustrated with the process of doing so, Zoom may just be a better, no-hassle option. Depends on your tolerance. I find Riverside well worth it running a professional podcast.
Great information. I thought there was something wrong with the CFR files! I am producing a radio play and there seems to be another problem as well: the wav files for the guest and host are not synchronized at the same starting point. They appear to be off by about 1 second. I can adjust of course, by moving one of the audio files by hand, but then I am just doing it by feel and what sounds correct. Is there a way to accurately synch two downloaded wav files from riverside? There does not appear to be any drifting, so perhaps it's not that big of a problem, but I would like to know if there is a better technique than just sliding two vocal tracks relative to each other until is sounds correct.
YOU ARE so amazing! thank you for this and I wish I could take one of your courses. I am about to start (and host!) a video podcast series for a startup I work at. Any tips on avoiding the back-and-forth with (very busy) executives that will be our guests? aka SavvyCal for scheduling, or should I just send invites via Riverside? Also - any tips on prepping them with their Q's ahead of time but not losing the authenticity? THANK YOU!
So there isn't much availability for editing while streaming, right? Like Multicam, placing a border around, things like that. Or am I unaware of these features? I would like to have my podcast be able to have the same quality while live as the post product once everything is completely edited and fine tuned. If Im wrong on this please let me know.
Hi Brian, I have a zoom h6 recorder, the catch is I can’t use it as an audio interface and record on the sd card at the same time. Do you suggest I record my audio on the zoom separately and not use the riverside audio just to play safe or should I use the zoom as an interface? I will for most of the part have an audio only podcast and I am getting into riverside only for the video to create promotional content. After seeing your April update regarding the drift, it feels like the drift shouldn’t be a major issue considering I’ll just be using short clips and not posting the whole video for now. My only other very major is concern is that I’ve also heard of people losing a whole sesión and all files, is this true? I am honestly scared cause I have some guests who I can’t afford to re-record. Thanks in advance, god bless riverside
I’m using a Zoom Podtrak P4 as an audio interface to connect XLR mics to the computer, but it records in 44 KHz. If recording audio & video via Riverside at 48 KHz, will there be concerns about audio drift or is that only a concern if trying to sync up separate audio/video tracks?
I'm sorry, i'm not a fan of Riverside.. it's still buggy in my opinion and through my experiance. 1/3 of my recordings are great. 1/3 of the recording have issues and 1/3 of the recordings are so bad they aren't usable. I don't recommend it right now. They really need to iron out the issues with the basic functionality before adding additional featatures.
Love and respect - but even magic audio nerds get 500MS lag on their mics that they don't correct. (it's the recording codec prob.) Also too boomy. Flat er and full er frequency, for natural human voice. Cinematic - with a touch of environment (room mic.) Never more than 10% of anything to the natural signal to keep it natural. Or you have to use pro-level music filters only. The difference is night and day. Day and night. Bay be it's true.
UPDATE APRIL 2022: Riverside is having major sync and drift issues lately. Learn what you can do here: ruclips.net/video/RLo7ihXYGrI/видео.html

This was so educational. Way better than the ones Riverside produce themselves. Thank you so much.
I'm just getting started with Riverside. This is super helpful. Thank you!
This was very useful for someone (me) who's going to record for the 1st time tonight! Thx!
Good luck!
This walkthrough is priceless! Much appreciated 🤙🏽
Thanks for the valuable tips, even for experienced podcasters. Greetings from Germany from the QM-Podcast.

Update video coming soon to address this concern. I started having the same problem, and I've got some news and info to share. Stay tuned.

Really good. Thank you. However, I think the setting UI has changed somewhat in past year.
You're really delivering some value here. Thank you.
Brilliant. Many thanks from me here in UK. 1-1 video podcast is a nightmare scenario I hope gets fixed. Any news on it my friend ?
Thank you for this. I am new to podcasting and a complete beginner when it comes to audio/video anything. I wish I found this a couple months ago!
This is solid purple-gold! Thank you, Brian.
You're welcome, Alicia!
Great…super helpful content, Brian. Thank you! So professional. I truly appreciate the time you put into this!
Thanks for making this video. So helpful!
An amazing amount of good info, Thank you
Thanks for the awesome tips.
This is incredibly helpful thanks Brian - really thinking about using this - wish the trial lasts a little more than an hour to properly road test it!
It's either this, or an experiment first with Cleanfeed for audio and Zoom for video
I just did my first show and I had a really bad echo in the recording on my end. The guest audio came out clear.
Where can I get your guest template you showed in this video?
Thank you for this, now for the hard part - saying something interesting!
Outstanding video resource!!!

Do you make your welcome sequence and prep guide available for download? I'd love to use it as a template for my podcast.
It's part of my Podcasting for Professionals online course: audio101.info

Thanks! I changed my social handles recently. @brianmillerspeaks
Thank you so much for this .
awesome video! I have a question: How long should the guest wait before they end the session? Thank you.
With multiple inputs I always run into issues on at least 1 of the tracks, either audio not recording, or video cutting out, or my back ups not downloading properly
I am when recording both revised recording time12 minutes and tracking recording timeing 24 minutes this problem solving please sir

Do I need to use voicemeeter with Riverside?

Great video! After the podcast, I assume you can end meeting but how long must you wait to exit Google Chrome?
I am having major issues with echoing on this platform. Any advice on how to solve this?
I am a new beginner in riverside. One of my recordings the audio of a guest was clipping. Obviously the volume slider in the guest tap does not effect the recorded audio. I whish I had on option to adjust of the recording volume.
You would have to tell your guest to turn down their gain, just like any other platform. Clipping happens on the way in, before Riverside, Zoom, etc.
will you please send me your prep guide?

New podcaster running multiview studio need a little assist on incorporation with riverside . Have a moment to assist?
This is soo helpful 👏. Thank you
Dumb question, If you’re recording solo, can you stop recording and come back to it later to continue recording ?
Is riverside better then stream yard for interviews then?
Can you retroactively extract video from an "audio only" recording?! I accidentally recorded a podcast with the "audio only" setting when I needed an Audio & Video. Please help me!! 🙏🏻

Is it possible for 3 people to record off the same 1 laptop??
Excellent video Brian. Can I access the email that you send to guests?
Very helpful. Thank you for your time.
What Brand Headphones are you using?
Very helpful! Thank you! I've been having lots of issues getting good quality video downloads post recording. I have checked all the usual boxes and cant seem to get it fixed. Any tips?
Watch the video I posted in the description. It's a major problem.
What if you're interviewing 2 people? How do headphones work in that scenario?
Hey my video was choppy after uploading. Is it because I didn’t wait for the sync?
Great video, thanks so much for posting. Quick question, how long after you stop your interview does it take to upload? Granted I’d guess it depends on time length. Just wondering how long the guest would need to keep the tab open after finishing before the upload is complete.
30-60 seconds in most cases, 5 minutes in some, longer is rare and usually a very bad internet connection from the guest.

Has anyone encountered that the guest is recorded for the full time but your own recordings stop after ~20 mins? Seems to be a bug

For some reason on my pc it works great but when I use just my phone the quality is like 480 pixels and looks all ugly

Great question, Liat. I'll keep it in mind for future videos!
What is the safest way to stop the recording and keep the upload with a guest?

I see in your instructions you say that a guest can’t be in a tablet. What are the problems of having a guest on a tablet? Thanks
The software is not set up to handle it. However, there is now an app. But you'd have to require your guest to download it just for your interview.
