      What DICE is doing reminds me of what Guerrilla Games did with Killzone franchise although they were quite about it, they kept their issues with Killzone internally and not shouty, loud and blaming fans like what DICE is doing. After Guerrilla Games got enough backlash from Killzone Shadow Fall and the developers being fatigued with Killzone, they ended up stoping the franchise and moved on to Horizon Zero Dawn which worked out for them.

    Battlefield fans have never asked for any changes to the way classes are played. We just wanted a new experience (like a revamped version of BF3/BF4 and with BFV moves like crawl back and/or others) I didn't like Specialists or Operators at all; That's why exist Apex/Overwatch is not asking for a Hero Operator/Specialist. And also the waste of Portal since there is no way in which the user can have options to be able to make stages and/or customize them to their liking now. I am afraid of the Reimagination term that is coming to Battlefield franchise. It could be the final nail on the coffin.

    They also said players today have “unrealistic expectations” when we really just want the features from games made over a decade ago…

    • @btfenton9
      @btfenton9 Год назад +3

      For real. All we want is the same game with new maps, a few new weapons, and 1 or 2 experimental game types along with the classics. It's like going to your favorite pizza place, saying I'll have the usual, and the waiter just brings you vomit in a bowl. Then the chef yells at you for not understanding his artistic vision of recycled pizza seasoned with arsonic

      @@btfenton9 I always imagine if these practices were used in other industries. I’m a carpenter and if someone gave me plans and then I said I’d build them that exact building; then a month later they show up to see something totally different and when they’re upset I tell them they’re stupid and can’t see my vision… you’d be fired so fast you wouldn’t even know what happened

      @nastytechniquez9685 right!? Its like they asked you for a table and you were really on a chair bender so you just made a bunch of chairs and stapled plywood on top of then to make a table last minute. Would you be able to look the customer in the eye and so "no, of course I didn't spend all my time and resources making chairs when you clearly asked for a table, you just don't get what a table is!"

    I could not agree more, even if I tried harder. You are 100% on point here. Sadly also with the last part, namely what it means -- or most likely will mean -- for the future of the franchise.
    Even though there are by now 3 dev studios involved in the next iteration, Dice is still in lead for making the part that is of interest for me personally, the multiplayer part. And unless their management gets replaced by someone competent, I guess it's 'GAME OVER' for BF. Sad times indeed.

    Dice are going to put specialists into the next battlefield and screw it up again. This explaination is representative of a defence to keep a micro transaction based concept in the game going forward. This is also represents that the last defence (developers with creative integrity) the battlefield series had against EA's money hungry bs left just before or after BFV launched. So going forward battlefield is going to devolve even further into a micro transaction mess.

    This comment is no different than Total FPS on reddit trying to tell everyone how "transparent" they were with the vault weapon AOW attachment updates. He claims they told us they could only go so far with what attachments made it on each weapon and that vault weapons were never planned for AOW use in the first place, like DICE is giving us some kind of gift.
    The reality is DICE chose to give us vault weapons because it was easier than creating new weapons and that the game would even more embarrassingly deprived of content if they chose not to add any vault weapons. They chose to use the M16A3 as the example for AOW attachments because it is easily the gun that had the most effort put on it. He fails to acknowledge the AKS74U has LESS barrel options than before. They act like adding under barrel attachments or barrel attachments to vault guns is an impossible task so we just get random assortments of attachments with no consistency.
    They fail to fix the smallest issues, let alone acknowledge them, weapon balancing is still an utter disaster even after all these "dispersion" changes. There is no thought or attention to detail in this game and it shows every single time you play the game.
    I'd argue the game is still fun with friends, but that's more a product of playing with friends than it is of the game itself. Playing this game solo just quickly becomes a test of patience with the imbalances still plaguing the game and the plethora of bugs and issues still prevelant as well.

    I dont know about what Ryan meant. However, most people do not understand BF. In every game, I never see people playing the obj, if a squad is working as a unit I consider it a miracle. The only time I hear somebody using a mic is because it is an open mic and they have rap music and kids screaming in the background. I would love to have an armor hunting squad, but I know the odds of putting this together with the type of people playing BF is almost zero. The devs are doing their part in killing this franchise, but the player base has the knife in hand and turning it in the gut as well.

    Even if the producer is correct and we didn't understand the specialists, is it reasonable for an AAA game to persist with something that an overwhelming majority of its players don't get? Maybe we're not smart enough for what they were trying to do, though maybe we *were* but they didn't explain it well enough, or put it into practice in an intuitive enough way.

    What do you mean they can't own up to their mistakes?! Literally in the prev quote he says "We underestimated the need to make sure that we constantly tie these things back to the original pillars of Battlefield - class gameplay, squadplay, and teamwork. This is one of the big places where we fell." That's literally him saying "We failed". What he meant is that Specialists were SO different from classic system that players completely disregarded any positives of it (which there are a few, even if miniscule) and didn't try to go deep into how they were supposed to work as a concept. Which is completely fair, Dice were expecting different use of that system. Doesn't mean players are in wrong, it just means that idea was poorly handed to them

    • @CatalystHD
      @CatalystHD  Год назад +1

      I saw the quote. Even with this context, what follows still has a condescending tone to it, the idea that players just can't look past the issues and see how good specialists are because the change from the class system is too far removed. It's a bit disingenuous to say that the idea was poorly handled while also saying players didn't really understand the true vision. It still seems like he is trying to justify an idea that, generally speaking, people do not want. And that makes me nervous for the next game, which is why I say that they aren't 100% owning up to specialists being a mistake. "It's us, but it's also you", type energy.

    • @thebigsam
      @thebigsam Год назад

      @@CatalystHD So the "Players always know what they want, they're just not necessarily the best at explaining it." is entirely fine even tho, you can easily see interpret it as "We had to sit through your garbage ass takes in order to find actual criticism" if you drop all context, but saying "We failed to explain to players how our poorly thought through system was supposed to work" is ringing alarm bells? I mean, pick one
      For me, the idea that MacArthur (or Dice before him for that matter) EXPECTED players to play by Dice's rules is far more stupid and insane than saying "player didn't get the idea". Ofc players didn't understand shit, there were no guidelines or limitations. Did they really expect us to create class-based loadouts in game where you can selfishly take launcher or ammo? Unlike "we fucked up, players' feedback was good, but we surely blame them for not getting it", my explanation actually is logical.
      Also I do agree with MacArthur on that, as a general idea, splitting original classes into certain unique playstyles and loadouts is entirely good and logical idea for live-service game. I mean BFV did something similar and BF4 attempted to go that route with perk trees. But even he understands 2042 just completely failed with putting that idea into fully realized system. Which what partially he even states himself in the interview. Again, where does blaming players come into picture here?

    The “reimagining” or “players didn’t understand” comments are/is language used for their presentations to their corp. overloads. I know this because I live this life. Words words words to the bosses, but we do diff things to run the business correctly.
    So these words are works they use to shinny stuff their bosses, but unfortunately some devs don’t turn that switch off when they talk to ppl who actually know what is ACTUALLY happening.
    Anyway…

    EA/Dice just seem rather conceited and even disdainful of it's own BF player base tbh.
    Maybe they're resigned to losing the BF3/BF4 crowd and they've reasoned that they can go off at another tangent like with BF2042, which allows for plenty of microtransactions for a "new generation" of players who have grown up with the latter model of gaming.
