I often think about how Josh has reached the pinnacle of military fitness by earning his Trident as a Navy Seal. Humble professional for sure, love listening to these vids.
Ellipticals are VERY good for overweight people or those who really need extremely low impact. I lost 135# starting on an elliptical, then the lighter I got, the more running I mixed in, but I'd say 305-260# was all elliptical. I was fully capable of "running" at 305, but the point is being able to recover enough to do it the next day, and the amount of stress and impact at higher weights is exponentially more.
Yeah, if you can jump on an elliptical and get into zone 2 for 30-45 minutes, I don’t see anything wrong with that, especially if you enjoy it and can sustainably do it most days. No shame in the elliptical
I herniated two disks in my neck doing HSPUs in a comp. Was trying to go as fast as possible and came down too hard. Now will only do strict HSPUs at a very slow controlled pace. Doing them for speed is a recipe for disaster. Kipping puts undo stress on your neck as well.
That's so funny I had the exact same Stair Stepper experience in 2005 well before starting CrossFit. Hopped on one at the YMCA and after about 10 minutes there was so much sweat pouring from my body that I thought the machine might short circuit. Super underrated cardio and I bet it had some transferability for Mat on the hill run at the games.
I used to have the most incredible workouts on a Life-Step/Stairmaster. (This coming from a guy who actually runs various outdoor stairs in my neck of the woods.) They do not suffer fitness fools lightly.
i met an 80 year old guy in san diego riding an EliptiBike. He had biked from NJ to CA on it. Was easier on his joints than biking or running - what a badass
Been doing Crossfit for almost 5 years and I'd say I'm pretty fit, but going up a few flights of stairs and I'm still breathing heavy so I agree with Mat.
@@kimleeson4900 if you start at a resting heart rate and then climb stairs quickly your heart rate will jack up quickly no matter who you are but sure whatever you say boss
I don’t think people understand how Matt Fraser doesn’t do the stair master and still managed to win 5 CrossFit games. That’s why Josh Bridges was so astonished. So many people have put years on a stair master and wouldn’t even come close to Matt Fraser’s level of fitness.
I had a shoulder injury, couldn’t get over 50lbs over my shoulder for a month or 2. Did a handstand push-ups within a couple weeks I was up to 70lbs. 🤷🏻♂️
Ronnie Coleman built the greatest glutes and hamstrings in history of bodybuilding on a stair stepper....great machine, different stimulus, great option as a tool
I personally feel that pistols and HSPU is the least functional movement for fitness. CrossFit should just do away with them....And yes, I do suck at both lol
stair stepper, what 99.9% of yuppie career women use to get that booty and cardio. Yep, i use it too but ususally as a warm up or finishing a workout session
Balance, shoulder and core strength, gymnastics, mobility, agility. Seems pretty functional to me. The amount of fitness that it requires to do a HSW under fatigue is crazy.
@@Vity.thomas27 I agree that handstand walks are beneficial and help out with everything that you listed. But, it's not a movement that you'll ever encounter outside of the gym . Unlike, say a Clean & Jerk, where the fundamentals of the movement translate to activities you do in your everyday life.
I agree with Josh a 100%..the goal is to workout safely over time and to protect your joints and Ligaments as your grow older.
If thats the case, then why crossfire at all.....
Josh dying when Mat said he's 'gonna get after it' on the stair stepper. HAHAA!!
90% of my cardio is on a stair climber. Love those things.
I often think about how Josh has reached the pinnacle of military fitness by earning his Trident as a Navy Seal. Humble professional for sure, love listening to these vids.
I love the stair stepper!! I finally have something athletically in common with Matt
You heard it here folks, now every CrossFit gym will buy a stair stepper

Sevan is hands down the best podcast host of all time.Great to see him doing this again. Dude is hilarious.
Lol Matt saying he did the stair stepper for 40 minutes a day for cardio put Josh into an existential stare…..
Stair steppers are now out of stock

I have a hate and love relationship with the stairmaster. I burn a lot of Calories on and sweat a lot. Lol

Same. Can crush a wod and come home and need a CPAP after walking up the stairs.
if your breathing heavy after a few flights of stairs you arent fucking fit

The jank pull-ups definitely

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates elliptical machines, ha.
I swear these three look like they could be brothers or even the same man at different ages. They all have the same brow and nose./ Hairline
Navy Seal activated... watch out ha ha ha .
Mat: I feel like I'm a very strong runner
Uh... Yeah. You did win every trail run ever.
Great video! I don’t do handstand anything. It has nothing to do with fitness anyway.
Mat claims to be a strong terrain runner. Couldn't even complete the 7 km trail run at the Games without stopping and walking. 😂

Ha! The elliptical bike. They look like something out of a Doctor Seuss book. Anyone riding that in public must be an attention who're.
As Matt drinks from a bucket. Ha
How many ads do you need on an 11 minute video? I just counted 6. That's ridiculous.
Matt is talking about using a stepmill, I believe, not a stairstepper technically...I think.
The versa climber is no joke
I think pistols and hand stand push ups can be used as great training tools. I wouldn’t do them at the speed or volume that they are used in Cx fit.
I'm really surprised at their ego, and that they wouldn't get on the elliptical
Ellipticals suck
Just ran 5k on a assault runner and almost threw up. Lol
Ronnie Coleman built the greatest glutes and hamstrings in history of bodybuilding on a stair stepper....great machine, different stimulus, great option as a tool
yeah well now he cant walk anymore so great good it did him
@@rayrocker2112 that had nothing to do with the stair master and everything with the intenstiy that he trained in.
I guess 800lb back squats, 225 barbell lunges had nothing to do with it.
No he didn’t. He did lunges with 135lbs out in the parking lot of his gym in 100+ degree weather. Look it up.
This is what makes this podcast bearable despite all the Sevan crap.
He needs to go lol
There is a stair-stepper in my Gym - somewhere in a dusty corner... I think I will have some fun tomorrow ;-)
Where is Mat Fraser and his girl friend moving to ?
Back home to Vermont
7 loves spamming us with notifications to get them views up.
Ask josh about sled pulls.
SDHP should be banned!

The elliptical. The most worthless piece of gym equipment ever invented. You gain absolutely nothing.
Haha
100% with Bridges. Pistols are dumb a as can be. Hspu as well.
Handstand walks. They're the least functional movement in Crossfit
Agreed.

Party trick
