You can use it to cover books and things but it can also be use to mask out areas if air brushing or using pastels (I’ve seen it used most for these uses). It’s not tacky enough to rip the paper and it just makes doing backgrounds so much easier. Now I might not use this if I was doing an animal portrait and I would have hair going over the background, then it might be better if the background overlaps your subject just a bit. Thank you watching ❤️

I must see if I can find some of this masking stuff. I would be concerned about cutting too deep though! I guess practise first before going onto expensive paper, lol!

Yes I was worried too when I first started using it, that’s why I gave the option to trace it out put it back and cut it out that way. But to you really don’t need much pressure to cut through the masking film! But I would be more careful if your using a thinner paper like the canson one. Pastelmat can actually take quite a beating lol.

What did you use to draw your image on the pastelmat? Doesn’t look like pastel but rather graphite. If so wouldn’t the graphite interfere with the pastel?

I used graphite to draw my image out. I did it quite light and use a kneaded eraser to pick up most of the graphite. I have never had a problem with it before but I make sure to keep a light hand. I have also used graphite transfer paper which sticks slightly more and can show through if you are heavy handed when transferring your image.
