Best NOT to be tempted to dry with a heat tool or hairdryer as the masking fluid might bake into the paper, making it impossible to remove. Allow it to dry completely naturally…generally between 15-30 minutes depending on how thickly you’ve applied it.
Another tip is to pour a small amount of the masking fluid into a small ( eg. water bottle) lid you are recycling/ reusing and quickly recapping the original container…as air will dry out the contents of the original bottle super quickly. As it is, most brands of masking fluid won’t remain useable indefinitely.

A crepe rubber pick up eraser works best. Does not lift the paper. It's a really bumpy hard eraser. You can find them in any art store.

I have never heard of a "crepe rubber" before, but that visibly describes my "glue eraser", so I guess the name varies depending on where you live.

I protect my brushes with dish liquid/liquid soap. Also, it makes clean up easier. I also have these special pen things that are metal for applying fine lines of masking fluid.

Ruling pen to apply masking fluid. You can change the line thickness and the rubber peels right off when done.

I use silicone tipped tools to apply masking fluid. Peels right off the tip when dry. They come in different shapes and sizes.

Hi! I’m planing to buy W&N masking fluid, so this video is just what I needed!😄 Molotow is always leaving some spots and marks, so I don’t like it a lot. Sometimes I make a conture with it, and then apply regular liquid masking fluid inside this marks. It works a little better.. for removing dry masking fluid from a painting, I’ve wraped my finger in a plastic bag. This way was the easiest from my expirience.
Sorry for my bad English, btw…😬

I recommend cement rubber eraser. I don’t use my finger bc I was taught that the oils from your fingers can potentially transfer onto your paper. My first attempt at masking fluid went horribly wrong. I was so excited over the painting. My sky looked gorgeous. My trees were popping. I used the fluid to cover my roof of the cabin bc I wanted it to look like snow was on the roof. When I started to remove, I noticed some spots refused to remove, some areas removed perfectly but then some areas actually removed the paper. It was Canson 140lb 300 gsm Cold pressed. I was devastated. Nothing like feeling pure joy over where your painting is going when you realize that you ruined it and can’t fix it. I used Gouache finally for the roof to try and cover the areas but it still didn’t look right. I definitely agree to test before applying to your actual painting. Much love everyone and Merry Christmas 🎄

Hi Laura, I completely cover my bristles in bar soap. If I’m using a lot of masking fluid for say like landscapes, I sometimes clean the brush before I've finished and cover it well with soap again and continue masking and then I clean it well afterwards. And yes, it comes off nicely.
