- We were recently in Irvine Ca. outside this local L.D.S. church gathering photos & video before the 1130 worship. During our time on the sidewalk, we were met by numerous members from this conversation extremely curious why we were recording. after declining to answer most to all of their questions & everyone seemed to go inside for worship , Irvine police soon made an appearance in what seemed to appease feelings of discomfort due to our recording in public.

I don’t remember in recent years men who enjoyed being such fools of themselves on cameras. These dudes like to act a fool! And they made sure they got in front of the camera. They were hoping they might get to be in a movie.
Some church goers think they have an entitlement. They think that they can choose who comes to the church and who shouldnt. I have felt like I'm being interrogated at some churches by the members.

I love it, a good behavior spot check for religious people at their place of worship. Pitch perfect the way you both carry yourselves, with kindness and careful respect, you take and give compliments honestly. You give folks plenty of clear space to show off their good will, or more usually their lack of it.

As a member of this church, I'm not surprised at their reactions. I think a lot of this is probably a wealth thing more than an LDS thing. That is a clearly wealthy area of Irvine, these ward members are likely used to having much more privacy than the average person. I'd be interested in a video of a chapel in a more average income area to see if it is different.

Just to play "Devil's advocate", I don't remember Jesus telling anyone not to be upset about being recorded, and unless you can identify a transgression of God's laws no sin has been committed, since sin is transgression of the law. Which is what Jesus is primarily concerned about (Regarding the children of Israel at that - Jer 31:31-33, Mat 10:6, 15:24). I'm pretty sure there's no commandment prohibiting getting upset, or even angry, or being passive aggressive. In fact Christians are told "be angry but sin not", so it's understood that Christians get angry like everyone else, and that's ok as long as they don't allow whatever it is to provoke them into transgressing the law (sinning).
The lure to a camera from an enquiring mind still amazes.

I don't understand why people would feel uncomfortable with public photography nowadays... When i was a kid we had a tv show called Candid Camera that would record people's reactions on the streets with a hidden camera and when they showed them they where on camera they would be alright with it, people are ignorant of their rights and how they work, that's why the work you do as an auditor is important.
When I was a kid photography was my hobby and I took pictures everywhere, at the local airport, inside the private planes, around town, at city hall and no one said anything to me ever.
You do know that candid camera had to get their permission to show them on TV right? I love all the comments that don't see this as a big deal, but I am 100% sure none of you would want people following you around video taping you doing your day to day stuff.

It would seem to me that the only people that would feel uncomfortable being recorded would be those people with warrants for their arrest. So the next time someone says you're making us uncomfortable you should immediately ask if they have warrants.
