I really don't know about others but personally, your recently gone viral video actually helped me relax. I have a really severe anxiety disorder and I was having a panic attack when my friend sent me the video. It may sound odd but the fact that your breathing was so loud there, actually helped me calm my attack and get back into normal breathing. I now watch it every time I need help because almost nothing appears to help me. Also, the cleaning part was really satisfying and I think that's why a lot of people watch it 😁. Thank you for all of your educational videos!

I find them a good salve to the inevitable onslaught of nonsense.

sam henderson couldn't agree more. I've got fed up of the cults that build up around some younger metal bashes that could only dream of emulating Gary's skills.
My grandfather started as a farrier smith and spent time in France in WW1 and Gary's approach reminds me of him. There are farriers and so called blacksmiths but these days is rare to see both combined.
I like the style of just seeing the work with a total absence of bull, all power to your arm Gary

When I was little, I went to Seaton Hackney to horseback ride. They told me, “When hoof-picking, you cannot pick the frog or you will hurt the horse.” So that made me think, oh, I don’t wanna hurt the horse so if I ever have to pick a horses hoof I’ll know not to do so. Then, I started watching these videos. I always see him picking at the frog with the knife but then I think.. he’s a professional so I should trust him! From then to now, I alway watch these videos. They are satisfying yet educational! I love horses!❤️❤️❤️

Its so good to see a competent farrier at work. Gentle touches to calm, no raised voices or violence. Most farriers around my area are Amish. I have nothing against them as a people, but I've seen them punch, kick, slap, and even hit a horse in the ribs with the side of a hammer. My horse was in line to be shod and I warned the guy if he so much as looked sideways at my horse, we would have a huge problem. That was the only time I took her to them for farrier service.

I grew up around horses until I was about 12. Then my grandfather slowed down on the ranch and turned it over to my uncle. Horses are amazing animals. I wish I had gone to work on the family ranch instead of moving to the city (Phoenix). Watching you work with the horses reminds me of my grandfather. I can smell the burning hoof and hair. I used to love the spring and fall roundups with my uncle's and cousins and branding the new calves... such a simple and rewarding life. I envy you... Dunny seems so gentle...

Hello Gary. Thank you for the video, you're really making some good quality content here. But at the start of the video, you asked why so many people are looking at yours. The sole reason i guess is people are looking at your work and what you do with attention because that's something we kind of know horses had to go through but seeing it is a different thing.
And well, your video are calm and show us really what you're doing. If people didn't liked what you did, you sure would have know it. Dunno if what i said is clear but meh, anyway, keep having fun with what your doing, it's the best you can do !

Videos have gone viral because 1: Watching this is oddly satisfying.. And 2: Red Dead is making everyone wonder about horses.
    But that was great. SAVED

I'm probably the only one that doesn't know, but what is that white stuff you are cutting out of the horses foot?

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  7 лет назад +195

MissouriOldTimer it's dead sole that hasn't fallen out on it's own. It constantly grows and naturally flakes away but sometimes needs helping!

Um, no. It's dead sole. You would have to hack at the horse's foot for quite awhile to reach bone.

it didn't sound right that it would be bone,, why cut bone away? thanks.

Personally, I love the cleaning and trimming part of these videos. Each horse has unique hooves with different patterns and conditions, and they change during the seasons, which adds a bit more variety to the cleaning and trimming process.
To explain my interest, it's very similar to watching someone power wash an old driveway caked in dirt, or applying fresh, crisp paint to some old siding on a house. It's lovely to watch the transformation of something that had hidden beauty and only needed someone to care for it.
In this way, it's more compelling to watch new trimming videos for a new experience every time. However, it's even more satisfying to see conditions like seedy toe being cleaned and treated for the horse's well-being. Perhaps in the future you might consider recording any medical cases you come across that you have to treat. Thank you for sharing your videos!
