Great hack! Bamboo from garden centres are often pretty pot bound so you can saw the root ball into half or a quarter to get several plants clumps out of them and help them thrive. It's cheaper than buying multiple plants and they quickly grow in their own dedicated soil. They're very resilient and I treat all grasses like it

Great tip thanks. I did think about splitting them. I will do next time. Mark

Hi mark .. gr8 Channel 👍.. just wondering what litre size was the pot ?
    , think I’ve got ,35, 50 and a few 70 litre pots .. and maybe a couple of 30 litre pots ,
Think me bamboos are in 7.5 litres and the larger ones in I think 16 /18 litre pots that they came in .. and getting rootbound ..
thank you .. look forward to your suggestions 👍🤗👍

So no concern for the pipe onto which the bamboo is being planted then? Just wondering.

Not really no. The pipe goes between two barriers which will prevent the bamboo from getting through to it.

Good idea. I was thinking oh no to start with, how many potatoes could I grow in that pot though 😂

Hello, I love what you did!! But do you think it’s necessary for me to do the barrier for clamping bamboo?

You could also of used old compost bags.

    Rhizomes will break through that

      I doubt it very much

@@MarksHouseandGardenUK Running will break through pots when in ground which is why bamboo barrier is the only method. In addition unlike fargesia / clumpers where the rhizomes spread with runners they run and also dive if obstructed.

The plastic pot is harder, thicker and more resilient than the barrier.

Here's how i know btw. I have both. The pot is tougher.

i think the difference is equality of the material... i may be wrong but i have had pots break down under soil and tree roots escaped... the "official" bamboo barrier does not breakdown the same way, so it's not thickness or stiffness is quality of the plastic...
