  • Local residents please note that there may be a small time delay between the demolition event and transmission of the livestream. This livestream will broadcast video only.
After generating electricity for over 50 years, Rugeley coal station closed in 2016. Now, the site is being demolished to enable its transformation into a sustainable, mixed-use community fit for the UK's net zero future.
Due to current COVID-19 national lockdown restrictions unfortunately there is no physical viewing area and members of the public should not travel to site. The police will be in attendance and have asked that people consider the latest “Stay Home” COVID-19 restrictions as these will be enforced.
    CHIMNEY STATISTICS:
    • 183m (600ft) high x 17.6m (58ft) diameter
    • Made from reinforced concrete with two steel flues, total weight 8000T
    • This ‘new’ chimney was constructed in 2006-2008 as part of station upgrade works
The four remaining concrete Cooling Towers will be demolished at a later date in 2021.

I remember going to the top of the chimney when they were just finishing it. Fantastic views over Rugeley

I'm CAA licensed and I tried contacting you several times to fly this and you didn't even have the courtesy to respond :(

You could buy a drone so you can make your own footage too :)

@@Tokaisho1 I've got one - I've been a licensed commercial operator for best part of 4 years now. I was looking for permission to fly from within the site legally.

@@pamthevan7340 Ah I see now, I didn't realise they could actually restrict the airspace for drones like this like they do airports as I've seen footage from a few drones of this event, they will be taking down the big cooling towers soon so maybe you can get footage from that

@@Tokaisho1 No problem - they can't stop me flying but I do need a safe space to fly from which means at least 30m away form anyone / anything I don't have control over. I was hoping to be able to fly from inside their fence which would have met all the requirements. However a lot of people flying drones don't respect the rules - but I have a licence I could lose so need to be a good lad :)

Why did you lot turn the comments off on your piss poor livestream of the towers coming down? Absolute waste of time.
