This short video is a labour of love.
I know that It may not seem like much to most of you viewing - just 4 minutes of video.
But to me it's so much more than you can ever imagine.
I was born in 1960 at number 9 Newman Grove - around about the same time Rugeley A Station came into the world.
I've lived within sight of either A or B station all of my life.
I've been to junior school, secondary school and started my first job in the shadow of the cooling towers.
I've lived, loved and lost, married and seen two kids come into the world, I've worked and played ALL under the gaze of these benevolent giants.
My Dad (Don) and Father in law (Ted Hodson "Teak") both worked at Lea Hall Colliery that fed the Stations with the coal it needed to keep the juice flowing.
I spent my teenage years at the club there feeding the one armed bandit and playing snooker.
I drank beer there when I was too young to drink it.
I played Golf there on a course built mainly by the members (my dad was club champion seven times).
I was chairman of the Model Club racing boats on the lake and flying indoor helis.
My Brother Neil (who sadly died last year bless him) held his 40th Birthday party there.
There are those that say "Good riddance" - they think of the cooling towers and other structures on the site as just eyesores but they understand nothing of the families that were supported and lives that were shaped by both the colliery and the power stations that were the heart and soul of this town - MY TOWN.
I'm not ashamed to admit that even as I type this and look back at my life and all I've been through over the past 61 years I can't help but shed one or two tears over the loss of this magnificent monument to the once great industrial nation I grew up in.
If ever I wanted to take video or photos in the area and all else failed B Station could always be relied on to photobomb any sunset - Sadly no longer the case.
I'm just another hack with a drone but I feel like an artist who's lost his muse. And subjects that will sit still long enough are hard to come by!
RIP Rugeley Power Stations - I hope that maybe this video might serve to remind those that come after us of what once proudly stood watch over our little town.

Also a symbol of our industrial past, now also gone.

My dad worked at Littlebrook C power station (Dartford) and he was the chairman of the Sports and Social Club, so I too grew up on a power station site and understand the unique atmosphere. Only a couple of years ago we witnessed the demolition of the huge chimneys of both C and D stations, sad days and the view is forever changed as we drive over the Dartford bridge. Thank you for this. C x

Fitting tribute to something that’s been part of our local skyline for my whole life. Fabulous video Dave!

I stayed in S-o-T Staffordshire in 2006 and remember seeing those cooling towers during a tour around Staffs. They looked quite imposing on the skyline and the landscape. The only thing I miss the most about Staffordshire is the OATCAKES and oatcake shops. We don't have Staffs oatcakes here in Aberdeen unfortunately. I really wish I could get a few packs and enjoy them again after almost 15 years of not having any.

You can get genuine Staffs Oatcakes in Asda and Tesco - try looking there?

@@Davethebluessinger I've never seen them in Asda or Tesco here in Aberdeen but next time I go I will make a point on looking for them and/or ask the store staff (pun unintended) lol

Excellent and moving video. I have not been as ‘close’ to it as yourself, but it has been part of my landscape since moving to the midlands in the late 60’s.

My wife and I drove past these the day before not knowing that they were to be demolished. How bizarre! They even made the opening credits of Central TV's launch back on January 1st 1982 as I recall!

Dave, the time and skill you have invested in learning to fly and edit the recordings taken by drone are just immense. Your drone footage is the best I have seen. Thank you for your efforts. I will show this footage to my family. I have taken photographs but, even those are outshone by your drone footage!

Kate thank you very much for your kind words. As I said in the description on the video this has been a labour of love for me. I do have a knack it seems for capturing the right scene but my colour grading skills and my PC won't allow me to match up all of the colours as well as I would like but I think it serves reasonably well to document the passing of the power stations from Rugeley. And yes I have put a lot of hours in but I wouldn't call myself exactly skilled -modern drones will pretty much fly themselves and it's just a matter of pointing the camera where you want it!

One of the saddest moments of my life. I’ve known those towers since I’ve been a toddler, I stood right next to one and touched the base of it in my early teens, now I’m in my mid 30s hard to see them go. Goodbye my old Concrete friends! End of a era 🥺🥺🥺🥺
