Any mature discussion would be based in medical science. Given the gender of a person is defined at conception that is the logical basis. Biological men and boys are male and biological women and girls are female. End of story. Trying to force this onto kids who will always at various stages of growth naturally question themselves, their role and their identity and leading them down the trans path is child abuse. People who do that be they teachers or whatever should be charged with child abuse and grooming. Biological men do not belong in female sport, female toilets, female change room, female shelters and female prisons. Get back to real basics.

In this case the Full Court of the Family Court established that a child under the age of 18 could commence taking gender affirming hormones (stage 2 treatment) without first seeking Court approval but only if all of the relevant parties agreed to this medical treatment. The relevant parties being the child, both parents and the child’s medical professionals. In 2018, in the case of Re Matthew, the Family Court broadened the decision in Re Kelvin establishing that a transgender child could undergo stage 3 treatment, including surgery, without needing the Court’s approval if the child, both of their parents and their medical professionals all agreed that this was the most appropriate treatment for the child. So again, a full range of consent is needed. This also doesn’t prove your comment that young children have had bits cut off

The argument on whether or not to allow Transgender people to compete in sport as the Gender they identify with is a very complex one indeed, and for the welfare of Transgender people the debate should not be politicised as an election issue. Note that my references to Transgender people does not imply that they are either Trans-female or Trans-male as the debate should not just focus on one or the other. This is deliberate as some people argue that Trans-females should be banned from Women’s sports while forgetting that Trans-males may have an unfair advantage when competing in some Men’s sports (e.g. Gymnastics). Firstly, all sides of the argument need to work together and respectfully listen to each other’s points of view. Secondly, all sides need to consult the scientific, medical and psychology experts to understand the most up-to-date facts about the underlying physiology of being Transgender. Thirdly, all sides need to realise that there should not be a blanket ruling on Transgender people in sport as every Transgender person is an individual, each with their own unique story and circumstances. Here are just a few of the many circumstances that should be considered before determining whether of not a Transgender person has an unfair advantage when playing sport as the Gender they identify with: a) At what age did the Transgender person medically transition to the Gender they identify with? An adolescent who has taken puberty-blockers, cross-sex hormones and undergone gender-affirming surgeries at an early age will most certainly not develop the usual physical traits of their birth sex. b) Does the Transgender person have an underlying physiological condition that prevents them from developing the physical traits of their birth sex? Participation in sport is good for the physical and mental wellbeing of everyone, and it would be unfair and cruel to ban Transgender people from playing Recreational sport and low-level Competitive sport.
