    Alright guys, wish me luck! I'm going to the gas station right now to use that tire air pump I've been eyeing the past 3 weeks since my tire pressure warning showed up. I've never used one and have always felt intimidated seeing that odd looking pump station, I now have the courage after watching this video! What kind of grown ass man am I.....

    Be careful with PSI!! This video was really helpful, thank you. The only problem I had was that you’re not supposed to fill the tires to the psi printed on the tire. I did that, as shown in the video, and it ended up being too much air. So I went to a tire shop afterward and they told me the recommended psi is printed inside the drivers side door. Thank you again for the video, but I just want to warn other viewers not to use the psi printed on the tire.

      Thanks for the heads up! I learned that the hard way back in 2018 by putting TOO MUCH air in my tire, (I definitely probably went over the PSI limit shown on the driver's side door), which put a bubble in that tire, and I had a blowout on the highway. The tire exploded! Luckily I didn't injure myself or injure others, but it was scary! Thanks for the heads up

  • @sherril9035

    NO! What is says on the side of the tire is the MAX it should be inflated to. Look at the sticker inside the car door or in the owner's manual for what the tire SHOULD be inflated to, which is determined by the CAR MANUFACTURER. Her tire at 32 was probably right where it needed to be. Going to 44 is putting the integrity of the tire in danger, therefore putting YOU in danger.
    If you have followed this video please recheck and DE-INFLATE to the recommended amount. Just push the stem of the tire, where you inserted the air, to the side to release air. The bulb end of your tire gauge, the part you hook to the stem to add air, on the back side of that should be a little thingy perfect for pushing the stem to the side for deflation.
    Drive Safe.

    I have a concern: 44 PSI is the maximum pressure, what the tire can take without risking breakage. The operating pressure for the tire is usually much lower. Think about the maximum temperature you can stand without getting heatstroke. Then think about a temperature at which you're comfortable for work. Similar concept.

    The recommended PSI for your vehicle may be found on a sticker located on the front drivers door jam. Some vehicles tire pressure differs from front to rear tires. Also, with the exception of a small psi fluctuation from summer to winter and vise versa, your tires should never need air. If you need air in your tires, take your vehicle to a professional mechanic to have them inspected for leaks. A small leak often requires giving the tire a soapy bath, which means the tire must come off. When in doubt, check with your local mechanic.

      You need more help than you think if you are taking advice from her, first thing is that what she read on the tire was the max capacity of the tire 44psi, that is not the pressure that the tire is supose to be inflated to. Always check your car manual to see if you have the right tires, and then check the optimum pressure for those tires, and in case you changed the rims, then you have to find out the right pressure for the type of tires you are using in your type of vehicle.

    • @guillaumebriere2174
      @guillaumebriere2174 10 лет назад +1

      No way this vehicle needs 44 psi that's crazy.
      Brian is right. You know how to use Internet obviously so just check car maker, year and model and you'll find your correct psi. Please note that sometimes front tires take different psi than rear ones. Over inflating tires like this will wear them off at the middle, while under inflating wear them off in the sides...

    DO NOT TAKE HER ADVICE regarding proper PSI for a tire....
    The pounds per square inch (psi) pressure number branded on the tire's sidewall identifies the maximum cold inflation pressure that specific tire is rated to hold. However, the tire's maximum pressure is not necessarily the correct pressure for every vehicle upon which the tire can be used (almost all vehicle manufacturers' recommended tire inflation pressures are less than the tires' maximum pressure).
    Therefore when checking and adjusting tire inflation pressures, the "right" inflation pressures are those provided by the vehicle manufacturer, not the "maximum" inflation pressure branded on the tire's sidewall. The vehicle manufacturer's pressure recommendation can be found on the vehicle's tire information placard label, as well as in the vehicle owner's manual. The proper PSI is also usually located on the car's door jamb, or underneath the center console compartment lid. It will be much less then the PSI noted on the tire sidewall.

    • @zshift

      This. inflating tire pressure to the MAX (the value listed on the tire is max pressure) is extremely dangerous and could cause a blowout on the road, which is very likely to cause an accident.

    • @brettlivingston10x
      @brettlivingston10x 7 лет назад

      Your question is the reason why you should only replace with OEM (Original Equipment Manufactured) or OEA (Original Equipment Approved) aftermarket tires.
      Many people are not aware that the tire choice is engineered to work as part of the suspension of the vehicle. The tires work in conjunction with the other parts of the suspension and even affect the acceleration, braking, and cornering ability of the vehicle. The tires are approved based on speed rating, wear rating, load capacity as well as several other very important specifications.

    One more thing to add: Your tires heat up while driving due to friction. This will also increase the pressure of the air in your tires. If you've inflated to 44 psi cold, you could easily reach 50 psi during a longer drive. Any wear from running low can compromise the structural integrity of the tire and running higher pressures after the damage is done could lead to a failure while at higher speeds.

      Unless you change the tire type from the factory spec tire...
      My replacement wheels with larger tires are 20PSI above the factory tire PSI, if I were to roll with the factory PSI on my setup, they would not be inflated enough, causing poor gas mileage and possible sidewall wear, so yes, you can go by the tire manufacturer PSI ratings and recommendations, never to exceed the max PSI listed on the tire.
      A factory/stock specification tire, sure, use the PSI that is specified by the vehicle manufacturer. ...just pointing it out that this is not always the case, tons of people replace wheels/tires with aftermarket products. (Common to be at different pressures than what is listed on the vehicle sticker or manual)
      ...and for people that say there is no minimum, lol OK, have fun on the highway with a passenger rear tire below 24PSI ! 😆

    Hi Roxanne, thank you for making this video, but unfortunately the information is not correct. The number on your tire, 44 PSI is the max air pressure the tire can handle (at 44psi it can handle its maximum rated load). This is not the PSI one fills the tire to however. Tire pressure for a tire is based on the weight and characteristics of the vehicle they are on. The car manufacturer has already done the math for you, and you can find this information in the driver's side door jam. For example, if the door jam states the car should have 31 PSI in all four tires, then regardless of what the side wall of the tire says, or what brand the tire is, the correct pressure is 31 PSI. Regardless if the tires side wall says max pressure is 35 or 44 or 50 it doesn't matter. The max pressure is provided on the side wall to inform the consumer or mechanic - if the cars door jam calls for a higher number PSI than the max pressure number on the tire, then someone installed tires that are not "strong" enough for the vehicle. Some cars call for 26 PSI, because of their front suspension characteristics and their weight, and others call for 34 PSI due to a different weight and characteristics. The PSI stated in the door jam (not the side wall of the tire) is the perfect pressure for optimal fuel economy, cornering and handling. I understand the points of these videos and I think they are a really great idea but this one needs correcting. Running at max PSI is dangerous, an over inflated tire makes steering unpredictable on bumpy roads, and handling much worse.

    The pressure listed on the side is the MAXIMUM pressure for the tire, AKA when it's hot and the car is loaded down. 32 PSI is right where you want to be, inflating to 42psi on a cold tire will put it around 48-50psi when driving which is WAY too much.

    44 psi seems way too high too me. I'm guessing the original 34 psi was about right. I'd recommend reading the sticker on the inside of the door seal and talking with a reliable tyre shop person, and go from there.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to the nearest gas station. I'll do it myself and I will report back with a positive outcome.

    The recommended pressures vary sometimes between front and rear tires and they can be found in the service manual, the door , or sometimes on the fuel hatch.

    You should never inflate tires to max capacity, Refer the owner manual or Sticker attached to Side door, normally a tire (with max 44 psi) will have owner recommendation between 32 psi to 35 psi. This is not the correct info that you are passing

I looked this up and it helped me big time.. I looked like a pro lol! The only thing was that I didn’t know I had to let the guy know in the gas station to turn on the air in order for me to use it regardless if I insert the money into the machine. You are supposed to find the operating pressure on the inside drivers door panel. With a car that size it probably should have been 30-32 psi.

    Very good video but One thing you got wrong you should never inflate your tires to the tire maximum pressure of 44 psi go by the tire pressure recommendation inside of your driver door panel. If you go by her advice you will damage your tire.

    WRONG. WROOOOOOOOONNNGGG!!!! for your own safety please do yourself a favor and check out the info on the side of the driver's seat door panel and it will tell you the correct psi. front and rear wheel psi. and i when she kind off mockingly said "you Americans" my head was like ummm here we go with the hate comments about trans people. But in a way she brought it to herself with wrong info. talkig about psi.

    This is a horrible guide which no one should follow. The pressure value indicated on the tire's sidewall is the maximum the tire can physically tolerate, the actual "operating" tire pressure is indicated in car's manual or on car's front doorjamb (when you open the driver's door there will be a sticker on the door's frame) and the required pressure might be different between front and rear tires (depending on your car's model). If you will over-inflate the tire like it is shown on this video you will increase the chance of tire blowout (especially if the tire already has some defects), you'll increase braking distance (which is a bad thing) and you'll reduce the proper handling abilities of the car.
