Iodine has to be put on layer after layer! Not soaked. Buff the piece first to make more translucent! After the layers dry buff to desired look then apply tung oil ! Its very hard ,and durable! Enjoy!!
Its still not quite correct. The Russian finish is not just shellac. A pure shellac finish will not maintain its hardness and gloss when exposed to elements and oils. The original finish is a compound varnish, and the signature smell does not come from the finish, it comes from the preservative applied to the wood itself. I did a long detailed study about this
@@CSZerinoI'd love to be able to recreate the izzy finish. I like the hologram reflective glow it has. I've been doing a ton of research trying to figure out how it's done
@@fuhkshet9703 They both should be light rubin shellac colour (red-brown with a hint or orange). Tula being really dark means its refurbished. Check for the square stamp with diagonal line in it . They painted new coat over last coat without proper prep when refurbishing resulting in wood being really reddish/dark. However no AKM leaving factory was ever this white/yellow as shown in video . AK-74 was, but not AKM. You can get original NOS AKMs over here, not heavily used or refurbished flamecut parts kits and i have seen a plenty new AKMs to tell you that amber is NOT a colour it had from factory. It's like painting a humvee bright yellow color saying it's original desert camouflage
